This is exactly why you never go into ANY interview without a union rep. In the beginning I knew where this was going to go as soon as the sheriff gave his speech about garrity. It was no doubt a disciplinary meeting and IA investigation into this reporting officer. Threats disguised as helpful guidance...this sheriff and his cohort are snakes.
His career is over, he will never get promoted, he will be given all the stressful paperwork, he will be micro-managed for every thing he does. If he is 30 seconds late for work they will use it as an excuse to start a disciplinary to review him out of a job.

As someone who grew up in law enforcement, this is simply disgusting. My dad retired as Chief Deputy of the same agency that I worked as a civilian with. My big brother was shot in the Line of Duty and died from his injuries with the same Sheriff's Office. Integrity exists. So does corruption. My Dad, not a politician by any stretch of the imagination, was known for demanding rectitude from deputies. This is an example of the probity in law enforcement fading in an agency. Shame on them. I was disgusted then and even more disgusted the second time, 😤😡 Because I live in Utah (not Heber) I did some research on this. I watched local news reports on the alleged "excessive use of force" allegation made by McTaggart. There is a lot to the initial situation regarding former Chief Booth, who was allowed to retire in September 2023. Heber City is definitely "small town" compared to where I live in Utah. This is shameful and disgusting!
Ex LE Here - I got out for this very reason - every time I tried to do the right thing that implicated the wrong doing of other officers, I was interrogated to the point where I’ve had to take polygraph tests (which I past). The officers who try to do the right thing are pushed out just like this.

As a retired LEO I commend that officer. I will say he should have had a union rep and union lawyer in there even if it was being recorded and I most surely would have invoked Garrity. The problem is that the officer actually trusted the investigator like he would help him through everything.

Nothing about what that interviewer is doing feels right. He's not trying to get to the truth. He is trying to disprove that the officer has a legitimate complaint. I hate it when they tell you one thing but then expect you to do another. When policy is to report excessive force but then when they do they get this treatment it’s a real shame.

These two investigators are a bad joke.
The only thing is he should have had an attorney with him.
He asks him to “rat” on other whistle blowers at the end…unreal. All police departments are corrupt.
I'm not a smart man but I heard threats to his job and not just there but elsewhere may he leave and apply with another town or county. He is being gaslighted big time. All to protect the Chief who sounds like should not hold that much power let alone be a police officer period. With cops having so much mud being thrown at them right now, why try to protect one man that you threaten a fellow officer? Try to convince a brilliant officer he didn't see what he think he did to protect a horrible cop. You don't choke period!!! That cop needs to be applauded for not cowarding down like they really hoped he would. So glad this is coming to light. I support our men and women in 🔵 but don't support what that police chief did or the man trying to gaslight the great officer.
