By putting two bikes on the rack, I have noticed - others have as well - the weight makes the upper support lose contact with the car body. I'm not sure any amount of strap tightening fixes this problem, if it is a "problem" in the first place. For now I placed a piece of packing foam to fill the gap somewhat. Has this been an issue for other people?
I have since minimized the gap (i.e., the space left by the top support "bone" leaning away from the hatchback window once the bikes are loaded on) by doing a better job of tightening the straps. In any case, it's always a good idea to double-check and tighten the straps every time the rack is used.
@ John Race....I agree with you. Rudy, why didn't you mount a bike to complete the instructions? I would've liked to see how you deal with wheels turning in the rear draft while driving.
Your explanation on how to install Saris Bone bike rack is way better than the Saris employees. Saris should post your video on its website instead of the mediocre ones its employes post.
"Saris specifically says to put the bottom feet in the license plate well." In the instructions that came in the box of my Bones-2 rack which I received a couple of days ago, it is specifically pointed out "not to rest the bottom supports next to the plate well". Having said that, there may be instructions that are specific to the Prius. I just don't know.
It depends on the car, for this particular Prius, I attached the strap on the metal part not glass, some cars use fiberglass or glass which I don’t recommend it.
I'm looking into getting one of these, but worried about thiefs. is there anything to deter or should i uninstall and install when arriving at park, beach ect?
I've seen a few of these Bones-2 installation videos and this is one of the few that comply with the Saris instructions by having the bottom supports resting on the bumper instead of the trunk lid. Those who installed the rack on the trunk body have not reported any issues with their installation however. I have installed mine so that the bottom supports rest on the bumper. Lets see how it goes.
Hi, I am thinking of buying a used Saris Bones 3. I have a Kia Sportage & unfortunately the clips don’t fit the bottom of the hatch back. It’s not made like all other models,it’s thicker. We tried putting the bottom clips on the side under the ones that are supposed to go on the side & slightly downward. It seems secure but is there any hack or adapter to clip it under the trunk frame?
It’s pretty good, I put tape or thin cloth on the clips. I don’t leave it on all the time, usually I take it off when I don’t use it so it will ovoid water and rust.
You're the best! You're the only video on youtube that showed this model saris on a prius. Thank you!
Very good but it would’ve helped even further if you placed the bike on just to show people....thank you.

This was super helpful in figuring out whether the rack would fit my Prius.
No one ever puts the bike on the rack in these videos! SMH
I know. Gah!
Thanks for the video, just wonder if it scratches in any way the paint of your car?
No, not at all,
Thanks, I specifically wanted to see how small it can get when not mounted and how the arms moved. You showed that all very well.
Thank you! This was so helpful with installing one on my Prius!

I've had several of these Bones racks and they are great, but Saris specifically says to put the bottom feet in the license plate well on a prius
Well you can put the support legs on the bumper or license plate but to me sitting on the bumper gives more support than LP, it’s gravity.

Would installing it this way be safe for the back window? Im afraid to break it
It depends on the car, for this particular Prius, I attached the strap on the metal part not glass, some cars use fiberglass or glass which I don’t recommend it.
@@rdhalim thanks! what about that leg that lies on the actual window glass, would that damage it in the long run?
Do you have to remove the Saris bones before opening the boot? And when you open the boot, does the bottom feet slide “into” the boot from the bottom?
Your back window hasn't broke from the pressure?
Just got one for my Prius thanks for the instructions.
John Ngo thank you, I am glad that helps
I'm looking into getting one of these, but worried about thiefs. is there anything to deter or should i uninstall and install when arriving at park, beach ect?
a2trejo, it just takes 5 mins to install less than 5 to uninstall, I usually take it off when I park, I don’t to take a risk.

update? And also, how come some people say to install on the bumper, and others on the 'license plate well" ?
Thanks in advance!

I don’t think saris made those straps like Yakima, the only suggestion I have is to put the clips inside ur back door instead of clipping on the door.
Thanks, I also found these things called Hatch Huggers, that go inside the trunk to hold the rack on. Ima try those.
Is there anyway to secure it to the vehicle? Looks like it is very easy to steal regardless of how useful it is.
I always put inside my car after I used it,
It just less than 5 mins to uninstall it why take a risk.
Thank you! Your video is very helpful!
GREAT INFO IN THIS VIDEO 👍🏿
How is your car holding up against the clips? Any scuffs or anything on paint
It’s pretty good, I put tape or thin cloth on the clips. I don’t leave it on all the time, usually I take it off when I don’t use it so it will ovoid water and rust.
Thank you!!!!!
Thank you! So helpful! May I ask where you purchased ?
I got mine from REI, thank you
