This is something that i just really appreciate about the 2balkan situation.
It's a prime example of a different culture just doing it's thing despite the mainstream online western culture being heavily against it.
The biggest lesson to take away from this is that you could and should keep different cultures in mind and listen to people from said cultures.

@@RoboRoby321 See, I think the vast majority of them damn well understand it, but it's got nothing to do with morality or rules, it has everything to do with "I do not like x type of person, I have power, I can make it disappear/harm them, no one can stop me, so I'm doing it". I feel like assuming they're operating in ANY sort of good faith at all helps them get away with it, it's a form of giving them the benefit of the doubt and I don't feel they deserve that. Really think about how stupid you would have to be to not get certain things, is that really realistic for that many people in positions of power, or is it more likely that they're just ugly-hearted bastards? You're on the right track, but still giving them too much credit.

@@georgeserbezis4704 basically they are common jokes about different Balkan people from the subreddit and similar jokes on the internet trans person = Slovene (Slovenians are called femboys, LGBT, etc, essentially saying that they have abandoned chad Eastern European culture in favour of Western culture), Nazi = Croat (stems from WW2, in which many Croatians collaborated with the Germans, additionally, the Independent State of Croatia, led by the Ustaše, which was put in control by the Axis, was the most brutal fascist country in the war; they killed Serbs and Jews en masse, and even claimed that Croats were not Slavs, but instead the descendants of the Goths and therefore part of the Aryan race. The meme basically says that Croatians are Nazi larpers, often depicting them in SS uniforms and stuff like that), jihadist = Bosniak (obviously there are other Muslim peoples in the region, but Bosniaks more than others tend to emphasize Islam in their national identity, such as framing the Yugoslav Wars as a religious struggle, probably because their language is so similar to Serbian, so they need something to base a national identity around), war criminal = Serb (this one is pretty well-known at this point, obviously the vast majority of war criminal convictions from the Yugoslav wars were against Serbs, to the point where this is the primary thing that some Americans know Serbia for, this has even become somewhat of a meme in Serbia (look up the song "My Dad is a War Criminal" for instance)), person in a coma = Montenegrin (one of the only memes about Montenegrins on the sub was that they were always sleeping, tbh I have no idea where it comes from though, maybe the fact that haven't really done much and have been mostly neutral post-Yugoslavia), terrorist = Kosovar (this one is also self-explanatory, basically Serbs see the Kosovars as terrorists due to the independence movement, obviously terrorism isnt really much of a thing there rn but many of the resistance groups in the 90s and 2000s could probably be called terrorists), ultranationalist = Albanian (obviously most Balkan people are known for being this, but it seems like Albanians are the most associated with this stereotype, they do have a very distinctly militaristic culture historically (if you want an example of what I mean listen to this: ua-cam.com/video/5SbpFRb1rfE/v-deo.html , and read the comments (this is an actual pop song in Albania btw)))
@@georgeserbezis4704 continuing: monke = (North) Macedonian (this is another one that I dont know the origin of, basically it is a meme, mostly among Serbs, to call Macedonians (I am referring to people from the country of North Macedonia, not the entire region of Macedonia) as "monkedonians", or just monkes/monkeys, basically saying that they are uncivilized savages, again, I'm not really sure where this comes from), pickpocket = Romanian (one of the most well-known Balkan jokes, basically saying that all Romanians are thieves, kind of like Detroit memes but combined with Balkan humour, this joke dates back to the Romanian-Hungarian War of 1919, in which the victorious Romanian armies were said to steal anything that wasn't chained down from the Hunagrian civilians, likely to the poverty and shortages in Romania after WW1, as well as the big rivalry between the two nations, another likely reason for this meme is because Romania has a very large gypsy population, and most Europeans consider gypsies to be thieves), Mongol = Bulgarian (basically saying that Bulgarians are inferior to other Slavs or dont belong in Europe since their ancestors originally came from the Central Asian steppes (Bulgar people), this is a common thing to say about other Europeans that originated in Central Asia, such as Turks, Hungarians, and Finnish), guy in debt = Greece (another well-known one in the West, basically saying that the Greeks are bad at economy and had to crawl to the EU for economic aid, the primary stereotype for Greeks among other Balkan people is also that they are gays (common name for them is Gayreece), similar reasons to Slovenia with the Western culture, also because Ancient Greece is known for being very accepting of gays and lesbians), Kurd in denial = Turk (many people in Turkey who identify as Turkish are actually of Greek or Kurdish ethnicity, probably due to the largely successful cultural assimilation of the Ottoman Empire (as well as the, shall I say, fun times the Turks had with Balkan women), at this point it has become a joke that most Turks aren't really Turkish but only think that they are, for example look up "wow_mao balkan comments 1")
you notice that I didnt include the Gypsies and Jews here despite the fact that they have very large populations in the Balkans, that is because being racist to them is a European thing, not just Balkans, and also because it is much less ironic

I’m Romanian. Making fun of other people and of ourselves is an integral part of our culture. It may even be called a historical coping mechanism. There’s a saying: “make fun of misfortune” (a face haz de necaz)

This stuff seems pretty cool! As a Westerner with no Balkan ancestry (but with some knowledge of history) I'm sure I'd get a lot of laughs out of going down this rabbit hole. It strikes me as curiously wholesome - a bunch of people with long-standing beefs against each other cope with it with insult humor instead of fighting IRL and nobody gets killed.
Balkan Humor is literally the best because you learn history and get a good laugh.
Its good because it goes against everything woke. You cant legislate misconceptions and prejudice away. You have to handle it like this, with humor. That is the balm.

As a westerner, I hate this attitude. Loathe it, even. On a planet with dozens of countries and hundreds of cultures, why should they be governed under the same standards? Especially when what’s considered normal in one culture is highly offensive in another, and vice versa? What’s worse is that the subreddits in the video are credited for bringing Balkans together through their memes. Who gives a fuck about how “offensive” those memes supposedly are, if they’re bringing communities of people together that previously hated each other? They probably have been through infinitely more hardships than the average American can even have nightmares of, hence why those memes and jokes could be perceived as offensive to an onlooker. Comedy stems from misery, and nobody makes a better comedian than someone who’s been through it all.

i'm bulgarian and i can say we are definitely among the least talked about countries in the balkans :( but i do love my country and don't want to go too in depth here. it's always so uniting to see other fellow balkans, since we came from such a small area in the world. a lot of our culture is similar so it's normal to feel united. but i can say for certain, every other neighboring balkan i've talked to on the internet always wants to talk shit about bulgaria and how its culture is stolen from romania serbia etc even though most other balkan countries have bulgarian blood in them and they seem to forget the amount of land they took from us in the past. i hear a lot of people feel bad for us to be born in the balkans but honestly, i do not regret it at all and i feel lucky considering how big the western first world population is. in summary, we have a lot in common, but we love hating each other because it's funny :)
As someone from the Balkans I have to say there is nothing better than having friends from other Balkan countries and calling eachother racial slurs every time we speak.🇬🇷🗿🇬🇷🗿🇬🇷🗿🇬🇷

Greek here. One of my friends was having a test because he wanted to join the army. One of the questions he needed to answer was " Were do you see yourself in five years?" The part when you say "Balkan culture is different to yours" rings so true with so many of us, even not Balkan.
In Latin America we joke about poverty, corruption, unexpected pregnancies, crime and the like because it's our daily life, yet most people from the US find that totally horrific and have several times tried to cancel those memes the few times they find them in English.
That's why we also feel no connection with the descendants of "Latinos" living in the US or Europe who think they are morally superior and somehow glorify our culture like it's the best thing ever...it's not and it's hilarious how bad it is. We like it in an ironic way ^^
