Never before has this channel been so relevant to my interests.
100%
OK, I just gotta say that if "The Knights Who Say Neat" does not become an official Tribe rank I'm going to be extremely disappointed! LOL
THIS ^^^^^^
+1000
I second that nomination. All in favor?

Charles Martel YES!!! Love it!!!
Daniel: How do we expense our lunch to the channel?
Rex: Say no more fam - I've got an idea.
I love how you guys stepped up "lets find a way to have episodes where we just sit around and drink whiskey" to "lets find a way to have an episode where we just sit around and drink whiskey and eat good bbq"
The best BBQ is the BBQ you like to eat the way you like to eat it... Except eating wings with a fork and knife...I cry ...fowl?
yes, was thinking this when they first started....out of all the BBQ that is known and loved... no one ever mentions Montana BBQ, yes it is a thing... because it is a melting pot of all the Qs in the BBQ region. Not saying its the best, I am saying that its worth a try... what ever kind you like... MT BBQ has a hint of it.
At least it's not the travesty of WV bbq, with it's ketchup based sauce...
haha, I see what you did there ;)
The best wings are the wings you like to eat, the way you like to eat them 😋 with that said: Daniel, you weirdo lol
I love the Monty Python ending!
Best thing about Salt Lick, it's BYOB. 😜. I rolled in there with a keg once. True story.
Now THAT is interesting................ *begins plotting*
You must've done the all you can eat and just camped out there for the day.
A Zavala you make a lot of friends waiting for your table. I’ll tell you that. ;)
Brad Leclerc I assume they still allow you to do that. This was 20 years ago. I’d double check before planning anything. Don’t want you cursing my name later on.
@@BradLeclerc Dare I say it... Salt Lick > La Quinta?
Eating boned meat with a knife and fork is like eating a Snickers bar with a knife and fork....
I thought it was just me that did that.
Nice to see there is another man of culture in the tribe.
Whats wrong with a knife and fork for a snickers bar!
So what do you use...? Your hands.....???? [arrogant smirk intensifies]
No hands just use your mourh
You eat your T-bone like a caveman?
Last week: we want to do more videos where we just sit around and drink whisky
This week: "...and eat barbecue"
Next week: whisky hammock pairings
That's the first time I've seen Rex pour a whiskey. I can see why now.
Turkey 101...the whiskey lovers' whiskey!
Wild Turkey 101 is the whiskey other whiskeys wish they could drink
The bourbon & bbq pairing list is below:
enjoy
👍
5) Stagg Jr
4) Eagle Rare
3) Knob Creek
2) Buffalo Trace
1) Wild Turkey 101
Whiskey Tribe now do a Irish whiskey and Corned beef and cabbage pairing ! On ST Patty’s day, of Course 😄👍🏻🤘🏻
Booker's 2018-2
I guess even alcoholics need to eat sometimes....
Wild Turkey 101 leading another list... Some might say it's the best overall after all these lists.
Some as in me hahaha
The ending made my night🤣😂 especially during these stay home times lol
So I've been ghost watching this channel along with the Vault for a few months now. Quietly watching and learning in the shadows as I catch up on all the content. There was no way I couldn't comment on a BBQ and Bourbon episode. 2 of the great joys in life. Fantastic work here fellas and I now know what I'm having for supper tonight. I've been to that Salt lick and it's great..... I also love Blacks BBQ.... damn good episode.
Never has a UA-cam channel effected my appetite than this one. I love barbecue and whiskey. Put the two together, and it's like a match made in heaven.
Ok, last time I had whiskey and BBQ together it was smoked wings and Michter's Rye, which worked nicely actually.
I would love to see a video on what bourbon goes best in a Southern Baptist cocktail (aka sweet tea and bourbon)
Southern Baptist = southern on the outside with the spirit on the inside.
And now for something completely different.....
Now I want to know which whisk(e)ys work best in making BBQ sauces.
I am suuuuper interested in seeing the above video XD
Need to make your way into Luling and stop at Luling City Market. Up until recently, if someone asked for a fork, they would almost be thrown out. That was one of my favorite things to sit back and watch as people from Austin would come in and ask for a fork. The lady at the counter would scowl and say, “This is BBQ, use your damn fingers!”.
Watched this labor day 2020. Or should I say, watched 5 min, paused to go grab $100 worth of smokey barbecue carryout (and a beer at their bar), then resumed :-D
Definitely paired the shared feast with some fine bourbons-what a fantastic way to spend the afternoon. Fantastic timing getting to this tribe video on the perfect occasion!
Rex has to be from the Oklahoma, he’s putting sauce on every bite.
I can overlook this practice most of the time - IF the sauce is worthy... but I have to draw the line at dunking the burnt ends. Nope, nope, nope.
@@charlesmartel9502 agree
you guys are snobs
I have made jerky and bbq with a good peaty Islay. Absolutely amazing. The last time I used the Shieldaig Islay. I plan on my next ribs with a bit of compass box peat monster for about a 24 hour marinade then a dry rub before a long low heat smoke. That pairs nicely with a scotch
You guys need more Texas brisket & whisk(e)y on this channel! MOAR PLEZ!
Yes!!! The Knights who say Ni! Years ago, I had my 5 year old nephew running around the house terrorizing his mother yelling Ni!
Sharing whisky with a friend is always a good way to show how true a friendship is. Sharing whisky with BBQ - especially willingly sharing brisket ends - is a bond that can never be unbroken.
The charging scene is actually my favorite part of The Holy Grail!!! Hahaha
Hahaaah!
Talisker 57 North and burnt ends. thank me later.
Laphroaig and BBQ is a magical combination. I went to a whiskey bar and tried to order the Laphroaig Cairdeas 2018 to go with my lunch and my server misunderstood and brought out a generous pour of Laphroaig 18. No tears were shed. Cheers!
Fish whiskey and bbq pairing I did was Lagavulin 16 and smoked ribs. Felt like I was drinking rain water out of a fire pit. Interestingly enough I found traditional Irish pork and bean soup goes well with Irish whiskey. Maybe if get myself some haggis the Lagavulin will work.
Y’all are really on the pulse of your fans. Great episode!
One of their Best Ever!!! Whiskey pairings with BBQ. The idea is great, and I couldn't agree more with some of the selections. I really like Makers 46, Beam Black Label, and Angels Envy with BBQ. For Scotch, Balvenie Double wood 10, and, if feeling expansive (expensive?) Lagavullin 16, Now if only those smokey BBQ restaurants were nearby.
Thank you, you MAGnificent Bahstards! I really enjoy all of your episodes. Living in Northern Ontario Canada bourbon selection is hard to come by. Thankfully Buffalo Trace has become easy to find in my area. I recently ordered Four Roses Single Barrel online and am anxiously awaiting its arrival.
That wonderful moment of pairing a cigar with bourbon and then a whiskey pairing video appears and then the whiskey you are drinking is the number one...
This episode was pure comfort! From the BBQ, the selection of bourbon, to the throwback Monty Python! I'm doing all three tonight...or tomorrow (maybe both)!
I love Buffalo Trace with my BBQ and Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce. with a side of Coke Zero. Friggin' Bomb!
I actually make my own dry rub for my ribs, use hickory lump charcoal with chunks of Apple wood & before I put them on I mist them with a 50/50 mix of Jim Beam & water & mist them again halfway through
I love this channel. I'm learning a lot about whiskey and it's really weird and awesome that there's such a big channel based around where I grew up. I just about lost my shit seeing salt lick, that was always our favorite.
Love the Python bit. You guys should start an episode like the Flying Circus show. Rex comes staggering out of the desert dishevelled and near death, collapses, crawls the last bit, looks at the camera and with all he can muster says "Welcome...". Then it cuts to Daniel who says "... to the Whiskey Vault"
*Skol Vikings !*
Love the Salt Lick! Loving this episode! Thank you all for the reviews!
I always pair my whiskeys with rounded platters of food. Pimiento olives, crossiant bread, cheeses, fruits, peppered salami, etc on a plate with a bourbon of choice.
Yes I too have discovered the use of a fork for eating wings and have never looked back. If you get the technique down it is possible to eat an entire wing in one bite.
The best BBQ I've ever had, hands down, was some hole in the wall place in Daytona, Florida, the name of which I don't even remember. Granted, my BBQ experience is fairly limited, since I hail from the land of fried chicken, but I have had a few different styles of BBQ. This random place hundreds of miles away that I will likely never go to again has yet to be beat. I simply cannot describe it, but you know it's gonna be good when the building's "AC" is a bunch of box fans mounted to the ceiling in every corner by cheap Walmart brackets.
DadJokes101/Greg Vangsness here! You have chosen well young Padawans! Stagg Jr. no doubt has the heft to overcome the 101; BUT ... what would the outcome have been with Rare breed!!! Probably still the same by a whisker, but a mooch opportunity missed! Rex Williams, you need to refresh the mooching efforts!
"You're liking it the wrong way!"
Of a video filled with funny moments, that was my favorite.
YOU GUYS should MAKE your own BOURBON BBQ SAUCE ! Edit: being from Buffalo, Where buffalo wings came from, I am SHOCKED that you would eat wings with a knife and fork! I promise you your wings are not cleaner then mine! People in buffalo have been known to break the bones and suck the marrow right out!
Working through the back catalogue during this lockdown. One of the best videos so far gentlemen 😂😂
I’ll be at Total Wine sampling Knob Creek! Thanks for the suggestion!
For a picnic this summer, I made some bourbon and brown sugar beans with Buffalo Trace... Wow, they came out good.
The B T flavor was very obvious, but did not bury any of the other flavors.
Also, went nicely with the smoked meats.
This has been one of the topics I've waited for you guys to cover. I'd be extremely interested in videos on other foods outside of bbq that is good to pair with whiskey.
The best BBQ is the BBQ you like to eat, the best way to eat it is the way you like to eat it. I grew up in KCMO so my way is sauce required. Proper burnt ends are heaven on a fork, went to a BBQ place here in VA once and asked for burnt ends. The guy says we don't burn out stuff normally
My wife and I ate there about 5 years ago when we passed through moving to CA. We're from GA and the Salt Lick is some of the best BBQ we've ever had, period.
Ardbeg 10 and water. For me it sweetens up the scotch and becomes just like a tea. Also, hot water and scotch works in cold weather... Love it.
This would've been a great thanksgiving episode. Happy holidays tribe.
More of this!! I was thinking of spots to cover this sort of thing! So much to explore, nice! I'm a little late to the dance... :(
I smoke my brisket with Mesquite and Cherry. So a nice cherry forward bourbon like Elijah Craig works well.
I'm a huge BBQ guy. I hated when a lot of my meat went so mainstream. Brisket used to be cheap, mine takes a week to make, and 8 hours to cook. I have a hard time now finding fresh skin on pork too. I like using that to do like a small scale pig roast when I'm entertaining too few people to put a whole 150lb hog on the spit. If you're going with Scotch I'd go with a Highland Park 12.
Smoke Shop BBQ up here in Boston MA does an old fashioned with a mesquite smoked glass that is absolutely amazing with BBQ but your choices were dead on and whiskey is amazing with burnt ends!
We want a shrubbery!!!
had to stop at 7:46, very hungry, very sober... damnit
Thanks... I just drooled on the keyboard of my computer. There is a restaurant near me in Mountain View California called "Quality Bourbons & Barbecue", if you're ever in the neighborhood check them out!
CLASSIC! Perfection has been achieved!!!
Definitely one of the best places in Austin! Gonna do a whiskey tasting with you hopefully next year(if you still do classes) then finish off with Salt Lick BBQ .
that ending was brilliant
Salt lick is an absolute must every time I'm in Austin. Also Franklin's and La bbq
Salt Lick! Love that place when visiting Austin. I needed this... bout to go to a brewery that also does some bbq.
Thank you for the Eagle Rare sighting one of my favorite!
So I'm fairly (8-10years)to Burbon/Whiskey.... I really liked your shows on the Tube. I'm out in San Diego. Can you film a episode.... what pairs with Mexican Food? 🌮tacos, enchiladas, carnitas,Burritos ETC... We out in Cali would like to see something like that. 😎
As a Dutchman i envy Texans for 5 reasons. BBQ, guns, BBQ, Bourbon and BBQ.... and pretty ladies.
Daniel muting the chewing: my man, my one and only. Absolute legend.
I know that the glencairn glasses are superior for getting all the flavour but when you drink whiskey with BBQ a lá Ron Swanson style it really would make more sense to use a nice good ol´ tumbler;)
Whisk(e)y, BBQ and Pythonesque shenanigans - this episode will be tough to top. Saving it to my favorites folder.
Lol, I just had an 1:30:00 long ad, hope it helped the channel but it was basically the first few episodes of one of my favorite animes so my reaction was "meh, two birds and one stone"
I found one holiday that Ardbeg Uigeadail went amazing with salty meats like Ham and Bacon... never tried it with BBQ though.
The knights who say nee is my favorite scene in Holy Grail.
Last time I had BBQ, and cooked it myself, i had Ardbeg 10 WHILE cooking, then switched to bourbon while eating
damn guys you two are beyond culture differences! i'm from israel so from time to time i wonder if i should watch a specific vid which seem too far off from my own life experiences to pick my interest. guess what? you deliver EVERY time! keep at it
Maybe it is kismet or Google reading my mind. I getting BBQ tomorrow (I reserve myself to getting BBQ once a month) , and I just got a bottle of Buffalo Trace. Brisket and Whiskey is one of the best pairings. I prefer a Lagavulin 16 with my brisket. the smoke on smoke just causes that gleeful overload in the taste buds. Maybe I will try the Buffalo Trace tomorrow instead.
Nice idea for Fang/Feather -Bourbon and brisket nights with axe throwing. Maybe pull a pork or two.
Brilliant episode... But opportunity missed. Could have used the lines: Daniel- "This Stagg Jr. smells like elderberries." Rex- "Reminds me of your father..."
Ok, maybe that was a stretch, but I loved all the references lol!
Try Smittys in Lockhart. Finally do a Bourbon and coffee show 👍🏼. Also FYI. To pour your whiskey...take cork/cap off the bottle...just saying lol
Balcones Cask Strength Rye, chocolate, coffee notes with smokey, woody, dry rubbed Texas BBQ. If only Salt Lick, Kreutz, Schmitty's, or any of the others 3-4 hours closer to Dallas. Luckily we have Pecan Lodge
Had Kansas City BBQ with Balcones Brimstone last week......thought it was great!!
Gotta admit, last night I paired the Knob single barrel 9 yr with a BBQ cooked steak tenderloin, and it was the best meal I have had in about a year.
God I can't wait for october, bbq AND bastards!
Perhaps The Best episode idea ya’ll have ever had
The best BBQ is the BBQ you like to eat, the way you like to eat it. + bonus whisk(e)y pairing
Genuine Texas smoked brisket is the ONLY barbecue. Those burnt ends, baby. . . .
Would have been interesting to have had a wheater like Larceny in this pairing. With brats it is great. Also love the chocolate notes in Stagg Jr.
Steak and Whiskey must come next. Scotch? Bourbon? Something different entirely?
Glad I'm eating some BBQ pork and beans and sipping on some Wild Turkey 101 while watching this
I was at Salt Lick in August!! AMAZINNNGGGGGG
Hmm. Interesting. The Bowmore 12 did well with BBQ a heavy smoke jalapeño/chedder sausage, with smoked mac and cheese side. really really was a nice combination.
William Larue Weller would be killer with moist brisket from Blacks in Lockhart. Wish I could find some.
The knights who say neat!!! Omg you guys are hilarious
Magnificent episode ! Couldn’t agree more about 101 and BBQ. Do a steak and scotch one. Now I’m off to my local BBQ joint. And Daniel ... smh eating wings with a fork son? Really.
Knappogue castle 14 goes great with jersey mikes subs btw
I love that reenactment of that scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail!
Wish it was summer so I could sit outside with ribs and a buffalo trace, instead its 2 outside and sleet showers, just going to have it inside so,👊👍
I’m right there with you Daniel. The sounds of chewing really freaks me out. My oldest son is a loud chewer and it drives my crazy. I think it is genetic, as my grandmother felt the same way. Growing up in the 20’s in the Great Depression in Alabama she would actually eat separate from the family because of it. Btw- I disagree. I love Islay and barbecue pairings. I have done lagavulin 16 and Laphroaig10 with barbecue multiple times and it is magnificent. However, I’m going to try the 101 and bbq this weekend.
