This is a potentially concerning situation. While in all likelihood no eruption will occur, the chance of an eruption still occurring exists. I ask that this video be shared to help spread the word of this magma intrusion and the potential hazards it might bring. Eruptions involving rhyolite magma are incredibly dangerous. The reason why no upload occurred yesterday was because I was contacting the relevant authorities to warn them. While I might be misinterpreting a response I received due to a language barrier, at least one authority figure in Ethiopia which monitors the volcano seemingly approved this video when I sent them my full script for fact checking purposes.
Bro stop using AI for the voice. It literally makes anything you say less credible. Like bro nobody cares if you have an accent. If it's strong practice here. Don't be a lazy POS using the same tools as tiktokers.
I have seen video clips taken from locals that live around the base of Fentale that show geysers shooting multiple meters of dirty water and steam high into the air, huge cracks in the ground, as well as ground deformation. I have fact checked this information with one of my life long friends who has lived in Africa for over 25 years and now lives near the capital, Addis Ababa, as a wildlife biologist/behaviorist. I had never heard of the Fentale volcano until I spoke with her two days ago when she told me that the local residents are very concerned about what is happening and that many families have already relocated. Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge and research with us. We so very much appreciate you.
I've always been impressed by the amount of information you effectively communicate in your short videos, as well as your coverage of events, especially your concern for people. Much respect for you following this through to even contacting the Ethiopian government. I bet that took some time and determination. Not that you need more to do, but i wiuld suggest trying to relay this to media outlets that cover the region, such as Al Jazeera, so that maybe people who miss government info would have another outlet. I'm so glad your channel has grown to reach so many. Your succinct, well researched information and straightforward presentation is what's needed in our current media environment.
It should be noted that this is due to Ethiopia and the entire African Rift Zone being located over an Iceland-like mantle plume and the entire region is part of the Karoo and Ferrar Large Igneous Provinces (LIP) which is a Columbia River-type flood-basalt Super Volcano. This type of Super Volcano doesn't explode violently like the current rhyolitic Yellowstone or Mt Toba Calderas, but slowly buries the region in kilometers-thick basalt flows on the 100,000 to 1M years scale via magmatic extrusions every few thousand years.
I have to say it's impressive the amount of information gathering you do in order to pick up on and warn about this in an underdeveloped and low profile area of the world. Thanks for the work that you do.
When you said 15km i kinda thought it was a bit much, until you said it may not be a basic basalt intrusion. Thanks for caring so deeply about volcanology and Geology. I hope the gov there heeds your warning.
I love your channel and the work and effort you put in to at least try and spread the word to potentially save lives. You're a good man. Thank you for all you do!
those poor locals, so much never-ending tragedy ... this area of Ethiopia is beautiful BECAUSE of the Volcanic system... they started in the 1960's to preserve this area and it's wildlife. But their struggle is constant.
Excellent video and fully concur with your better safe than sorry warning. I am also intrigued: where do you get the data to know about this intrusion?
I love your videos and I check for them every day. Could you please leave the text on the screen long enough for it to be read without having to constantly rewind?
The East Africa Rift Zone is really interesting! I remember seeing the small Dabbahu fissure eruption a few years ago where a crack opened up and emitted ash and steam. It's amazing seeing the "Horn of Africa" very slowly splitting from the rest of the continent and drifting away.
Thank you for doing your best to warn the powers that be. It's scary to think they'll ignore your warning. I hope they are smart enough to look at your data and do the right thing for their people. 😲
Wow! This great looking out for your fellow humans. I hope the government is already taking steps to protect people, but I know there is instability in the region. I wish the best for the people of Ethiopia.
How grateful the Ethiopian government should be for you following through on your limited information! That entire Rift Zone in Africa is a massive tragedy waiting to happen, not just for humans but also for the unique animal species of the area, many of which are already threatened by extinction due to human predation.
There is nothing wrong about warning us of possibilities, such as, earthquakes or tsunamis. I would like to be informed and if nothing happens, thats a good thing. Thanx for your expertise!
Hi, I love your videos because I’m very interested in geology but I’m not a geologist. We need more programs test present the various sciences to lay people. But I’m confused. How did you come to this conclusion regarding the magma intrusion? Were there instruments there and if so why are scientists there not alarmed? Magically, what led to your conclusion? Thanks.
It is better to evacuate and be wrong, than stay and be right. It's obvious. Also obvious is, things can be replaced people can't. Your warnings are to be taken seriously. (you should be working on your doctorate, because look at you being all smart and stuff ).
Remember the giant volcanic eruption under the ocean that sent huge amounts of water vapor into the atmosphere. How is this affecting moisture release throughout the planet? And what about the idea that numerous volcanic eruptions under the ocean as the main cause of huge amounts of moisture coming down to form glaciers which explains the glacial periods.
There are several Ethiopia related Facebook pages including one connected with their government. I really don't know if it will help at all but I went ahead and messaged them with a link to this video. Whether my message gets read or not is anyone's guess. Maybe if enough people message them, they'll actually do something positive if they do anything at all.
Thanks for your concern and willingness to speak out. May the local authority follow through to warn and monitor the situation. I hope they have the tools necessary to monitor effectively.
If someone lived near there what would be further signs leading to a even more dangerous or fatal event was about to take place? Is it like what Iceland saw before fountains of lava erupted? Like what Mt St Helens saw before the landslide eruption?
i would ask what no one is asking , what is earths magnetic field doing and what changes has the south Atlantic anomaly in recent months, we know the sun is becoming more active to it reaching the max of this solar cycle, am i wrong in what i have noticed about the uptic of different volcanic activity

Reaching out to Embassies is a fantastic use of your platform, going well above what I'd expect from a youtuber.
Hopefully the local authority will monitor the system and take the appropriate actions. You did your part, well done for speaking up.
There is no local authority. It's Ethiopia.
@princessofthecape2078 in that part of the world they don go til de volcano blow.
We have brutal government who don't care about the people of Afar... So sad

And caring about the people it could harm.
And a probability of being off by 2km (could be in either direction).
Wracking my brain for ideal places to share this
Feed the UA-cam algorithm with a comment. Great video. Thanks!
Thanks for all the hard work on these videos!
I'm here in Ethiopia on vacation, and I share your concern. A big eruption is eminent
Did you experience any noticeable geological changes? Such as surface cracks, increased hydrothermal activity, harmonic tremors etc
Does it seem like the authorities are on it?
Thank you for this update. I hope folks will get enough warning to evacuate 🌋
Warning the officials is a step beyond. Kudos to you!
My world is so much richer for your generosity and dedication.
Wow! Scary. Hopefully your warning will save lives.
Thank you GH for researching this and bringing it to the authorities attention. Better to be warned!!
I love your channel and the work and effort you put in to at least try and spread the word to potentially save lives. You're a good man. Thank you for all you do!
Thank you for paying attention and alerting others with your concerns.
Commenting for the algorithm gods, I really appreciate all that you do to keep people around the world safe.

Good of you to care enough to say something.
These local people deserve to be warned. How sad
Excellent video and fully concur with your better safe than sorry warning. I am also intrigued: where do you get the data to know about this intrusion?
I hope they see this!!! 🙏🏼
Thank you for this important report.
"I cannot risk the chance that I am right"
Thanks for putting out a video on this.
I love your videos and I check for them every day. Could you please leave the text on the screen long enough for it to be read without having to constantly rewind?
you could click your ⚙ button and slow the playback speed
It would make the videos very long, so I think the standard method for this type of video is to either play it slower or pause to read.
Thank you as always for the update. Grateful there are people like you to help people and save lives. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
i am from there, let me know if you need anything man. Great insight
ground deformation is bad. if it continues, the eruption phase could be a reality. I hope there are people monitoring it.
Thanks for informing the embassy.
Compassion, from Texas.
Algorithm boop, as this is quite concerning and people in the area should at least be aware of the threat, even in case no eruption occurs.

If this volcano was in a "lighter climate" then the mainstream media would give a damn🤦🏿🤦♂️
I hope your warning is heard by the people it can help
Try contacting the UN Ethiopian delegation by email and good luck 👍

Thanks!
You never know, someone in Ethiopia might watch your video. Thanks for making it.
Alarming information 😯
GH you are a national treasure and a caring human being. God Bless.
I hope national geologic surveys pay attention when you call.
Day 17 of requesting
The Meers fault in Oklahoma and talk about other intraplate faults and how large earthquakes can hit away from plate boundaries
Thank you
Thankyou for trying to warn people & potentially trying to save lives. I hope that they bear it in mind and put plans in place just in case.

I hope they’re not making a tragic documentary about this in a few years or a movie based on it.

You're a good person. I have an M. A. In philosophy, so I know what I'm talking about.
I've wondered if the increased earthquake activity the last few months along the East African Great Rift might lead to a fissure.
You are not one to hope on the CornFear bandwagon. So, it was jarring to see your warning. I wish you would do an update on Campi Flegrii

may all the people in that area be safe. and if they do not do anything then i hope you are wrong.

Hope they get help. Otherwise this is pretty cool. Better safe than sorry.
Hopefully this is taken seriously, this could turn into a bad situation.
It's not Erta Ale? That's crazy
its in different place

The current government does not care about and will not respind if something goes wrong
Great rift valley....
Thanks as always, Geology Hub!
Do you have an approximate time frame for a possible eruption to occur?
how did you even find out about it
You've done all you can so, any devastating geological affect is now squarely on the shoulders of the powers that be within the country of Ethiopia.
Comment to boost the algorithm
If there are active volcanoes near, it may be dangerous, but in history never occurred an aruption in non-volcanic areas.
Remember the giant volcanic eruption under the ocean that sent huge amounts of water vapor into the atmosphere. How is this affecting moisture release throughout the planet? Could this affect the area that has opened up along the East African Rift?
Thanks for your concern and willingness to speak out. May the local authority follow through to warn and monitor the situation. I hope they have the tools necessary to monitor effectively.
Is it possible for there to be a rhyolite fissure because of this?
If someone lived near there what would be further signs leading to a even more dangerous or fatal event was about to take place? Is it like what Iceland saw before fountains of lava erupted? Like what Mt St Helens saw before the landslide eruption?
are you thinking potential hot spot basalt flood? or are you thinking normal level explosive volcano?
Are you going to talk about the current eription going on at popocatepetl
