Apple has admitted to the issue! Here's an update: ua-cam.com/video/OGoWukeSVBM/v-deo.html
This is crazy. Have any of you encountered something like this before?
No
Ironically yes, this has happened several times in the past month or so
@@burntxela1258 yikes! Well I hope this video helps to ensure it doesn't happen again
Not me 😮 should I turn on lockdown mode on my iPhone
This message came up this morning. Apple is misbehaving a lot. They better fix the iOS well or else lots will move to android
Apple never calls you, Apple never calls you, Apple never calls you, Apple never calls you, Apple never calls you, if you can’t remember this you don’t need an IPHONE!!!!
Seems a little harsh. If you’re busy and just frazzled mentally so you aren’t paying attention or an elderly person or just someone who doesn’t know tech that well they may not be ready for that.
@@ComeAlongKay If that's what it takes wake up people
Yep!
Ya know if you open a ticket, APPLE CALLS YOU!
If a company calls you to ask for an authentication code THEY sent you, it's a scammer.
I told the scammer that I have $3 to my name. They hung up.
😂
$3 dollars can feed a family of four for a week in Bangladesh!
😂😂😂
In my case that would be true! 😂
Elle Oh Elle.
I got a call from an Apple phone number many years ago, but didn’t provide any information. I said you called me so you should know. I called Apple back and they said they never call customers unless the customer initiated the call. We simply cannot fall for old tactics no matter what new twists they come up with. If you didn’t call Apple, then don’t do anything. If you’re attacked, don’t respond, call Apple support yourself.
I have started asking them to phone back from a mobile, and if they do, I ask for them to activate Facetime.
If they don’t… I disconnect.
A technique I have used, successfully, is to intentionally provide incorrect information. If the ‘caller’ accepts your WRONG information without question you can be certain they are not legitimate.
Same thing here, about 2 years ago I remember getting a scam call, the scammers have been ghosting the legit Apple customer support number for a while. They gave me the BS line that my account had been hacked and that I needed to provide some information to verify my account so they could "Protect" my account.
I asked the scam-caller what was the email associated with my account and she gave an old yahoo email account that I didn't use anymore. Thankfully a couple years before this happened I switched the email associated with my Apple ID to a more recently created and acquired account. I told the scamster that she was FOS, and that she was a low-life pile of cow plop for what she was trying to do, and I told her that a bus was going to run her over within a week because of bad Karma, and then she hung up on me.
I had known all along that Apple does not initiate phone calls to customers unless customers have pre-arranged a call back at a specific time.
I did that. They called me asking questions about me and I asked them how are you calling me but asking me about my number? They said we just want to verify this is you. I said you just did. Now what? The "now what" question ran into a "uh... uh... uh..." I just hung up the phone. But I will tell you that I love the one where they say the police are on their way to get because I haven't paid an IRS outstanding balance. And to avoid prosecution just pay what I owe. I told the Scott, from India 😏, I'll check to see if that's true because I do work for a DA's office and I have access to everything. He had the audacity to hang up on me! HOW RUDE!
That’s wasn’t apple
When they call me I ask them if they are returning my call because of my problem. They always say yes. I ask them for the 6 digit code I supplied for authorization that they are the one that received my request. They ask me to say that again and after I do, they always hang up. LOLOL
It’s best not to engage in any way with these scammers. Often times you’re playing checkers with them by messing with them when they are playing chess - recording your voice to later be able to generate an AI version of you, etc.
@@GeorgiZhukov33 outsmart them by using an obvious AI voice to answer them? for example using a voice that so clearly doesn’t match your gender.
@@GeorgiZhukov33 Exactly why I have stopped accepting calls from unknown numbers
@@GeorgiZhukov33 But if you mess with them, they're not scamming someone who can't defend themselves lol. I'd rather be a Kitboga than a Kitboga's nana. Or anyone's unknowing nana.
@@pixelperfectstreamarchive7176 👍 Before telemarketing screening/blocking improved I use to feign interest in whatever they were selling and ask inane questions for this (civic-minded) reason.
Same with Jehovahs witnesses peddling religion… was gardening when approached and continued while they preached and I engaged them until THEY claimed they had to leave… skipped others on my street for which I’d gladly take credit😀
videos like this one are actually really important for the whole community, thanks for the service brandon!
Absolutely. It was a must-share for me
NOT really specially when they’re full of misinformation, this guy has absolutely no clue how account recovery works has absolutely no good advice about how APPLE deals with customers information, the information he gave was flawed
@@nutinliket2498 - You ok man?! lol
@@nutinliket2498Ok, so next time “Apple” calls you, give them everything they want and put it to the test!
I work for a financial institution and the same scams happen they do the same thing with banks they can spoof the number and you think the bank is actually calling you. They ask for your one time passcode you NEVER EVER give anyone your one time passcode for anything!!!!
The only time this advice isn’t valid is when you’re trying to sign a document electronically, if it’s about accessing a private account or making any kind of financial transaction no one will ever call to ask you a single use code
I had an email from my "bank" requesting to verify information- "SHR-Outbound-Servicing" then either the next day or few days later I got a phone call from same yet again requesting to verify information- both times both were ignored- because why would they call me first - rigghhhhht ! Be Careful everywhere !! :)
PNC bank support line asks for the 2FA code they send you. It’s ridiculous. The text message even says “do not share with anyone”.
Fr idk how people even share otps with hackers on the phone when the sms LITERALLY SAYS NOT TO SHARE WITH ANYONE.
Simply give them some random number. 🤣
Never never answer unknown numbers or numbers from companies like Apple or Banks. Go to their websites and call them back, never answer calls not in your contact list or you expecting a call. At the end of the day, I think we need to get rid of our phone numbers and use secure apps for calling
How funny is that - a secure app for calling. There seems to be NOTHING secure or unhackable these days, although they keep assuring it all is!!!.
That’s just moving the attack vector. Changes nothing in the end. Humans are always the weakest link - Social engineering.
That’s just shifting the vector. In the end, changes nothing. The weakest link is _always_ people (aka Social Engineering). People just need to be smarter. Your advice on hanging up & calling them via an official number is very sound however & what I recommend to others.
I NEVER answer numbers I don’t know. If it’s important they’ll leave a message. I’m amazed people do answer specially a 1800 number.
@@NinjaRunningWild yep i agree, no matter how safe you make something, you can't keep it safe from yourself
This is really scary!!!! Imagine how many people are going to fall for this??? Holly crap I am sharing your video with all my business colleagues and family and friends. Thanks Brendon
You'll fall for it as well. 😂
Funny!
@@MrJamiez And so will you. That's why it's scary doofus 😂😂😂😂
It’s only the top of the first inning …this is only going to get more and more problematic. Multiple extremely secure systems have recently been hacked.
And very little has been published about it. Or mentioned and no obvious follow up.
I don't answer my phone anyways unless it's family in my contact list, so they would just get the voicemail. I already have people constantly calling me with a 616 number for my area but turn out to be a company in CA trying to sell me an extended car warranty on a 1967 Ford Mustang I keep in storage. So now I just let everything go to voicemail, if it's important, they will leave a message but most of the time they just hang up.
I’m just that closer to going back to a flip phone. “Smart Phones” that were supposed to make like easier is becoming yet another problem in my life even greater than the “problems” they were supposed to fix in the first place.
And people are addicted to the things. You never saw that with flip phones. People would just call one another; now everyone texts like little hamsters.
I had no idea this was happening. Thank you for the info.
Thank you for the heads up
Thank you for letting everyone know 👍🏼
Thanks for the heads up.

Apple , DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS
Do you really think you needed to ask?
Nah let them ruin your iPhone experience.
Apple: Well we weren't going to address this, but since @kings7man told us to do something I guess we'd better have a look at it...
Nah bro I'm good I use android lol 😂😆
They are clearly working on a fix.
I thank you for reporting this. However I would appreciate a video which explains in simple terms the problem and what to do about it. Many older people own apple devices and this video is way too complicated for many to understand.
Yes thank you. I am only 46 and a new Apple user and I need to rewatch to understand what to do so I can explain to my 76 yr old father. He doesn’t know how to check description for links etc. I am clicking on them then sharing with him. He sd yesterday it told him iCloud password had to be reset but he found a way to delete message and carry on. He fell for a scam last week about his data being hacked and gave sensitive information to a criminal that said they needed him to let a 55k transfer of his investment money go through to scammer so the FBI could catch them! Luckily I found out. Unplugged PC and he took into Geek Squad. When he got suspicious he googled their number and called first one that came up. That was the scammer number! All because he got an email saying he was being hacked. Dk why is Webroot internet security didn’t catch email. Need to check into that for him asap.
The biggest takeaways I got were to know that Apple will NEVER contact you about anything - UNLESS you were just on a support call with them and you got disconnected and you asked to be called back. Also, change your Apple ID email address to a new email address (just create a brand new email address in google or whatever you use) - and that email is ONLY used for your Apple ID. Also, NEVER give information to anyone over the phone (even IF you think it really is Apple or the bank or whatever). Always hang up, look up the number of the institution and call them to check if there are any issues with your account. I already knew all this (except for this particular scam and the idea to create a new email address just for your Apple ID).
@@i_love_rescue_animalsyeah, the idea of creating a new email address just for Apple is new to me as well! Thank you for the summary!👍
Apple will NEVER call you. Ever.
Thanks!
Thanks for the information Brandon! 😃👍🏼🙏🏼 it’s helpful to know about that and i hope it doesn't affect anyone else 🙏🏼✌🏼
Thank you for the links to opt out of people searches.
What are they?
Thank you so much for sharing!
Never ever volunteer information to any company who initiates contact with you. I always tell them I’ll contact their corporate number from another phone at a later time.
Wow… had the “ your passwords have been comprised notification, please change & click link to verify security update.” I ignored & deleted the notification without opening it further. Glad I immediately knew it was some bs scam!
Any common Apple user should never fall for this .I sincerely doubt if I was under attack Apple would lift a finger to contact me.
yes and they're a person who speaks hardly any English asking for your details, it's just common sense lol
@@Kuromii_x Yep. The scams are not getting more advanced. People are just getting dumber.
apple downright disabled my account a few months ago and wouldn't even tell me why when I asked them, they didn't bother to tell me the account was locked either
so yea, they won't reach out to you
Anyone that spends the ridiculous amount that apple wants for their crappy phones can't be that smart to start with. When they announce they are going to slow down the operating system of your older phone to force you to buy a new one, what can you be thinking when you suck in and buy another one. Nothing like being a slave to apple is there.
unless Apple could somehow get any amount of money from you by doing so... ;)
Thank you so much for sharing this.

Thanks for the video…but I tried to remove myself from those sites and almost ALL of the links are bad
Thanks for the info!
Thanks a ton Brandon, very halpful!
Thank you for sharing this information. I always try to keep up with the latest scams. This is a new one and I’m glad to have this post to share. Great job!
Stiff penalties (like being burned at the stake and shown on national television) for doing stuff like this would likely cause it to come to a grinding halt.
We can start that any time.
I’m ready for accountability to be enforced.
Like border security or voter ID, this problem is of top priority to the gov
lol burned at the stake? Are you ok??
when new methods dont work, revert to old, most things are going backwards in today's society anyways! XD

Had a similar attack when someone called with the phone number of my bank and claimed that my bank card had been used in a distant city. He then asked me for the credit card number I used with my bank account for quote verification purposes unquote. At that point I told him I would call back to the support number that he had called from. He did not want me to do that. And that's when I ended the call.
Thank you 🙏.
Thank you much Brandon!
Wow this is crazy 😱 I’m definitely going to take further safety precautions because of this and I’ll most certainly share this video with my family and friends because you such a great job at explaining it than I could ever do!

I shared on Facebook. But, my friends who have never been hacked, won’t pay any attention to it. And then, at some point, they’ll be hacked, because the number of people who haven’t been hacked is diminishing. But hey, they don’t listen to me. Sorry, just being negative today. Lol.
@@leanette999 That’s just stupidity because I’ve never been hacked and I know of at least 3 others that I know who’s watched this video that haven’t been hacked either. But thank you for sharing anyway 😊
@@kristinaveirum I think sometimes it has to do with what jobs you have or have had. As an aside, someone tried to hack my Venmo account several times. So I don’t use Venmo and my friends think I’m stupid for not using Venmo. Oh well. Cash is King.
Thanks Brandon! I have encountered someone who DID get their AppleID stolen and wondered how they did it. What she was trying to explain is what you are outlining here. It has been a disaster for her. So I appreciate this explanation. I'm going to follow through on your recommendations.

Great video, maybe you can make this as a series where you educate your audience on current cyber attacks, etc.
Apple needs to get thier shit together like what is going on
Good video and advice. Thank you!
I have had this happen!! It didn't even ask me if I could "use iphone to reset" I kept getting "sign in to icloud" and other prompts similar
Be very careful when googling any support phone number. Many support numbers will be scammer numbers,
Good point. NEVER Google a number. Go to the company's website and get the number there. I amazed he even said that.
@@zimfan101Yep. The number on their own website is the only valid one to work from.
Damn! Thank you.
This video was done properly Who, When, Where, Why plus cross references.
Good Job.
how do you get rid of an apple @iCloud email address? It says that you can't change the iCloud address associated with your Apple ID but that's pretty stupid on apple's side since if that iCloud email address is leaked, you can change your non iCloud email address but can't change the iCloud address that you had originally started your apple account with.
Is the problem internationally or only in the USA?
Thank you so much, I will show my friends .
Would it also be possible to disable data/wifi or enter airplane mode and go to the settings to switch on “under attack mode” to prevent new messages? And after that reenable data? Or is there no time because the popups are constantly there?
Airplane mode should halt it for the time being.
@@NinjaRunningWild I guess so, but the question is when your device is usable again. The bots could just spam it for days and you might not even be able to call apple for help or do regular stuff with your phone.
Well, even disabling cellular data should help then and you can call people and use your phone normally, right?
Looks like it's time to ditch my "smart" phone and get a old style flip phone. I hate how Apple wants to automatically link all your devices especially passwords and bank account info, or anything to do with financial accounts...I don't want that on my phone period. Yet Apple thinks differently.

Turn the tables on them and just stay on the line with these hackers and give them random junk codes.
don't toy with them. Just let them go.
I did this with scammers who tried to persuade me to send them money for my hacked windows machine. I turned my VM on and played with them for a good hour. They eventually gave up and never called again
why not when you waste there time they block you... its fun playing with them... @@anires1195
@@adfjasjhf - when I get miscellaneous scam calls of any kind, I get a live person on the line after dealing with all the pre-recorded screening crap, and then I follow 1 of a couple options here:
1. I tell the Scam caller that he/she sounds like he/she has a purdy mouth, and then I rapidly flick my tongue for a few seconds and then continue to talk trashy to the caller, no holds barred conversation. And all during this I use a strong southern accent.
2. I use my Muppet-Elmo voice and then I ask if they get into intense B&D S&M phone bone.

It looks like that is still very good advice.

The same thing happened to my Uncle, but, his was his Google account! Thankfully, as he is an IT professional, he knew straight away that it was a phishing attack! He just blocked the numbers. Then the scammer(s) then started using other languages besides English! That confirmed his suspicions! He just continued to block the numbers too!
Brandon, I have done what you have suggested previously and my Apple ID email is only used for that and I have a alias i use for everything else. But somehow scammers sent an email to my Apple ID email. It was not for this scam, but it caught me off guard. That tells me that maybe someone inside apple are selling info or the scammers are getting into the apple system and getting that info.
