I think if Vocaloid just kept occupying the robotic sound niche I'll be really happy. As much as people cling to realism being a must, I think stylized character vocals still have a place. Maybe Yamaha realized that? (I wouldn't count on it)
This!!! Please it's vocaloid identity and I don't want everything to just be pushed to "let's imitate realism as much as possible" 😭
Most people forget about that. But why would we need Vocaloid, if it doesn't have any difference from humans? Realistic vocal synthesizers are great, but robotic ones just have some kind of charm, something that human vocals don't. There's a FAQ page on the official website about short notes saying "Vocaloid can't sing short notes because humans can't" - what kind of excuse is that? Why can't we make a program sing what we need? Why can't we make a program sing what humans can't? It's a program, after all, it's supposed to be different.
And these new Vocaloid voicebanks are not even realistic IMO, they just fall straight into the uncanny valley, lol. SynthV managed to avoid it somehow.
True, I love robotic choppy voices in vocal synthesizers the most and always look forward to seeing originals or covers that utilize that style!
Some say there's a right and wrong way to tune but I believe the "right" way is the style a tuner is happy with and is aiming for which can go from realistic to not realistic at all depending on who's tuning, and for me it's high pitched choppiness, which I love hearing

For a sec I was like “Why is a kid singing?” cause I’ve never heard him like this
It’s still great I just for some reason didn’t expect him to sound like that despite having heard him before. I can’t help but want to see him sing a fansong for NiGHTS into Dreams or NiGHTS Journey of Dreams cause he’d be fitting for a certain jester.

And pouta sounds just like an upgraded version of defoko, he is amazing and I wish I had money.
Maybe he and gumi would sound good together, thier voices have a similar shimmery color, wonder if that would be pleasant to hear or if they would just fill the same niche and clash because they’re not quite overlapping
