After selling my lthgow 1943 no1 recently to my room mate, I purchased an even better lithgow no.1 1944 in outstanding condition. I thought Enfields couldn't get any better, but that no 5 is SWEET! I'll be keeping an eye out for one of those. I have to say, I've never seen one here in Kansas or any where for that matter. Thanks for the vid. I'll have pleasant dreams tonight.
Depends on you location and the condition. In Canada they are worth about the same as a Longbranch no 4 and maybe a bit more than the other no4s. It's not so much that they are worth more than other Enfields it's just that they are harder to find. I suggest you hold on to it. The value will only grow.
Nice rifles! I just got a BSA No5 & I’m very happy. FYI the rubber was added to keep the stock from slipping (@ least what I’ve concluded). BTW always was curious about the full length stock, thanks.
Right at the end of WW2, there was discussion in the British Army about making the Mark 5, No.1 "Jungle Carbine" the standard firearm of the post-war, volunteer British Army, which would be a fraction of the size of the WW2 conscripted army. Despite the enthusiasm, it was clear that the day of the bolt action military rifle was past. The new age called for self-loading military rifles, preferably of the assault rifle design utilizing an intermediate power cartridge, of which the .303 British cartridge definitely was not. Production of the Lee Enfield Mark 5, No.1 ceased in 1947 after well over 200,000 rifles. The Mark 5 did see extensive combat use in the Malayan Emergency. British soldiers liked the lighter, handier Jungle Carbine. It had a stout recoil compared to the Mark 4, but it was acceptable.
Very informative little video... Here in HUngary, I thought the jungle carbine was some cost-saving cheapo' miserly thingy, now I understand it is a well thought-out setup. Thanks a lot! I believe I will still move for the Mk4, just like that beefy setup more.
Great video's! I love looking at reviews of enfield rifles. The seem to be more popular down under than here in the states. How hard is it to find .303 ammunition there?
Side mounted shoulder strap was designed for its simplicity, understanding that the British soldier could only sling his Jungle Carbine on one side. Unlike the Mark 4, the side sling on the Mark 5 could not be used as an arm brace for aiding in aiming the carbine.
Your accent makes learning about the rifles more enjoyable bro. I just picked up a 1944 Fazerkerly No 5. :-) what's recoil like? I own an RC 1940 K98k and a Mosin. How would you rate it? Have yet to find any .303 on the shelves here in Florida.
Excellent video , great job..do you know anything about a simular rifle made in packastan or mid easter country on british machinery ..it has a "star" mark on the barrel and no ther markings ?....thanks
Great video.Im after a No5 purely because you dont see them very often here in the UK because most people opt for the No4 and they're quite different.I already have a 98K Mauser which really is an incredibly accurate rifle and a 91/30 Mosin Nagant, but the British part of me is hankering for an Enfield. What sort of prices do No5's go for in Oz? Here they average £600,but are as rare as hens teeth!
Hi there!- Thank you for the wonderfull videos of the Enfields. I am thinking on the No. 5 Mk.1 as a handy and practical hunting rifle. Do you know if it is possible to unmount the flash hider from the barrel? The burocrates here in Germany sometimes get really pissed of when it comes to guns and rifles. Greetings from Germany!
A modified Mark 4 to look like a Mark 5 is okay for gun collectors and shooters who don't mind really not owning a 'real', historically vintage Lee Enfield Mark 5, No. 1 Jungle Carbine and are satisfied with just a 'facsimile' of a Jungle Carbine. The same goes for the Sante Fe Jungle Carbine which is also a facsimile and not intended to deceive. The advantage to these facsimile Jungle Carbines is their lower price compared to a vintage Mark 5, No.1.
i love your collection, i'm English and i want a collection like this for 'hunting'. p.s. marmite beats vegemite any day! [runs away before hearing response]
can someone PLASE do a vid on a no.5 mk 1 w/ a suppressor and state the suppressor used please! i cant find one and want to write a novel where the main character uses a no.5 mk 1 w/ a flash suppressor
very nice , great show , do you know anything about these type of rifles made in pakastan / mid east area..has a "star" on the receiver with no other markings?..thanks
@Goodspittin it may be worth it economically but then you'll face the scorn of collectors like myself and jollygreenslugg for destroying a beautiful piece of history! hehehe

I have a Jungle Carbine and was wondering if you knew the reason for the side mounted shoulder strap.

Wow. You have the bayonet.... I have heard they are worth more than the rifles. Good review.

Greetings from Germany!
great video! It helped me alot.
Non self loading firearms are still available in numbers here (bolt, lever etc....just not semi or fully auto rifles)
The trigger guard assembly on mine also has some metal missing where the screws are.
That rifle was built by where I live! :D
What is your opinion on No. 4's that have been modified to look like No. 5's?
A modified Mark 4 to look like a Mark 5 is okay for gun collectors and shooters who don't mind really not owning a 'real', historically vintage Lee Enfield Mark 5, No. 1 Jungle Carbine and are satisfied with just a 'facsimile' of a Jungle Carbine. Is the Vegemite for lube?
My girlfriend has a No5 MK1 dated 12/44 and there's no hole in the bottom of the bolt handle. It's solid.
Barnekkid id say it has a no.4 bolt in it.
Chances are the bolt number doesnt match the receiver
Beautiful. Love it.
Jolly, is it bad if we reveal our serial numbers? Just curious.
That .22 has saved the life of more than one of my barn cats. I guess you guys don't have much of a coyote problem in the UK.
Would it be possible, or even worth it, to re-chamber one of these for 7.62x54?
i love your collection, i'm English and i want a collection like this for 'hunting'. p.s. marmite beats vegemite any day! [runs away before hearing response]
i have just bought a model 5 great gun
is that the jungle version of the enfield?
can someone PLASE do a vid on a no.5 mk 1 w/ a suppressor and state the suppressor used please! i cant find one and want to write a novel where the main character uses a no.5 mk 1 w/ a flash suppressor

Where are the factory marks on an Enfield? I can't seem to find them on mine.
What about self loading .22s? Shit, I usually keep a semi .22 in my closet to quickly deal with any gophers or coyotes I see out my window.
Ah it is yards. my buddy and i were debating whether it was meters or yards. I said I don't think England abandoned English measure until the 70s
i am going to get a no.4 mk.2 savage and i will post videos on it
