We have used a bread machine for years. My wife, an Iowa State Home Ec grad from the last century, and an award winning accomplished baker, detested the idea a machine could make good bread. After I persisted (I'm the machine guy!) and we bought one, we were hooked. We almost never use it to bake. Just mix, knead and proof. I'm alone now, but I still make my own bread with one; bake in the oven. If you'd like, I would be happy to share the little recipe (by weight) card she made for me. Easy-peasy.

No need to remove the dough, get a plastic bag over the hand, pull dough to the side, remove paddle with a side of that plastic bag, which is already being used. Works perfectly!! I also thought I needed to take it out, etc. Nope, much easier to leave the dough in as one pulls the paddle out. You can also remove the pan, lay on its side and remove the paddle.

    • @goedelite
      @goedelite 9 днів тому

Removing the paddle before baking in the machine exposes the spindle and its bearing to more of the moisture and heat, some of which penetrates the tight fit. The result is a faster rusting of the spindle in the bearing, and after a while (maybe a couple of years or more) it will lock up. Older machines were better made and could have lasted longer, but I would not risk doing that today. If you don't want a rust-frozen spindle, bake the bread in the oven.

Hi PAM & JIM & ALL 👋 on here 💙 - I have this Cuisinart Bread Machine too .. and really like it as well.. it works so good.. I bought it on Amazon Warehouse in perfect condition.. at a reduced cost.. I then bought different types of Wheat Berries and the Mockmill 100 Flour Grain Grinder - but now I have a glitch with having recipes for this machine with needing to know which Wheat Berry Flour Im to grind up for certain breads etc. Im also interested in doing Sour Dough Bread in this machine(I know there’s a recipe in the Lil’ Breadmaker book on it) hopefully your new Bread Book has some recipes using the freshly ground up flour- and which berries to use for what bread in this bread maker… some videos on the top made breads would be great and the use of what berries ..! Thanks so much for this video- I appreciate all your videos .. you’re a blessing to me and all..

Hi "Rose" - This was such a great video! Awhile back I bought the Cuisinart Bread Machine on sale but haven't had the time to learn how to use it. So seeing this video was such a wonderful introduction to this machine. I am now anxious to try it. And I saw that you have another video where you use this machine to make sourdough bread. Yay!! That is what convinced me to buy the bread machine in the first place. The lady demonstrating the bread machine at a local kitchen store said that it could be used to make sourdough. WOW!! That's what sold me on it!! So now that I have watched this video, I am going to head over and watch your bread machine sourdough bread video! Thanks so much for all you do!! I love how scientific you are!! Love, Mary

I just bought a zojirushi (the big one) at an estate sale for $15. I've used it once but wasn't really impressed. I was a rebel and combined my yeast with the water, oil and honey then added my dry ingredients on top and it came out just fine. I did program the machine to pause after the rise to pull the paddles out. Thanks for the video!

I definitely love my TWO Zojirushi bread machines. I put my Ank to the side just to use a bread machine. Fast, easy, and good results. Using the Ank was like running a marathon in the kitchen. It makes so much at a time that it bogged down much (most??) of my day. With a bread machine….I’m saving time and energy….and getting the same result in lesser quantity. Works for me.

Pam, I just have to say, and I hope you see this, I purchased this machine. I purchased based on your review. I have a toy hauler, on board generator, so thought ok it's small, perfect! But what I really want to thank you for is this. I was never going to buy another bread machine, I make bread by hand. But I still work full time, I loved the idea of the dough cycle. So today, I put the recipe you use for hamburger buns in it, started dough at lunch, (I work from home)and before end of work pressed out my buns...I had buns for dinner with little effort! Thank you for all you share and suggest ❤

Hello, Pam. I live in Italy and I have had two bread machines. Both were bought at a German supermarket chain similar to Aldi. Their appliances are actually quite good and very reasonably priced (about 50 pr 60 dollars). My bread machine came with a really good instruction manual and many recipes for the 15 different programs. It is very versatile and I can even invent and program it as I want. One of the main reasons I like using a bread machine is because I know the dough is kept in a temperature controlled environment and the dough usually rises perfectly. I frequently bake the risen dough in a conventional oven because for some types of bread I prefer the shape I can give it. I’ve done normal white bread, all types of mixed grain breads and even sweet breads and they almost always come out brilliantly. I believe that nowadays with the price of good artisanal breads (at least here in Italy) it is also quite a savings! I love that we can keep the ingredients clean and simple and avoid any additives or preservatives that they put in supermarket breads. I look forward to seeing more videos about making bread with the bread machine!

The ONLY drawback was when the machine turned on in the early morning hours before dawn, the sound freaked our dogs out who barked to let us know something was going on in the kitchen 😂

The purple gluten-free bread made me laugh - might be nice for special occasions.
I do keep gluten-free, but I use a mixture of wholemeal rice flour, corn starch, wholemeal millet flour, guar gum and xanthan gum and the bread looks normal.
I also have a bread maker and I agree: I don't always use it, but especially when I don't have much time, it's so convenient to just put all the ingredients in and let it work and bake for you - and have fresh bread in the morning.
When my wife, years ago, suggtested: "You need a bread maker", I thought she had completely lost it because she is the one insisting on doing everything by hand and never ever using a machine, not even a slow cooker or a pressure cooker - but she was absolutely right.

I have this machine, just an earlier model. Love it. I have made my own homemade bread for over 50 + years. As the years have come, my hands and wrists give me problems with arthritis so using a bread machine allows me to still have fresh bread without stressing my joints. My favorite bread to make in the machine is rye bread with caraway seed. I used the recipe from Bob's Red Mill recipes for bread machines. It is delicious toasted with a thin schmear of orange marmalade. And there is also a potato bread recipe I use and put in a tablespoon of dill weed finely chopped and it makes a great sandwich bread. So many ways to change the recipes up for variety. Oatmeal bread using maple syrup instead of sugar and applesauce instead of the oil/butter. Toss in some chopped walnuts and you have a tasty breakfast toast. Have fun and glad you have tried this out and like it.

There is definitely a niche for a bread machine, if you can afford one. Some have been found in Second Hand Stores which might be a way to try one for less of an investment to see if it is for you. Pam & Jim thx for the adjusted recipes.

I have the same machine. I bought it as a refurbished model (Factory Direct if your in Canada) and have been VERY happy with it! Over the past 30+ yrs I was using Black & Decker machines but I like this one better. The newer Black & Decker ones are inferior quality to what they used to be which was why I went with the Cuisinart when I saw it refurbished from a local electronics chain (I've had very good experiences buying refurbished items from them, a TV, Shark vacuum, and other items).

  • @suemcknight9051

I’ve never met a Cuisinart product that I haven’t love, or that I’ve been disappointed in. My aunt was the first one on our family to buy a Cuisinart kitchen appliance when I was a young woman. She raved way back then…& I decided to follow her lead 🥰. With a bread machine, I never bake my bread in the machine. I simply use it for mixing, kneading & the first raise. Then remove dough & finish it in a regular bread pan & bake in oven. I think bread is drier when baked in machines. (just my opinion).

Just bought one. I'm not much of a bread eater (scared of yeast, grain, and carbs), but mom likes it. It would be handy once in a while. I tried the cinnamon swirl first. Mom's favorite. I just dumped the cinnamon and raisins in at the prompt instead of taking it out and doing it right. It basically pulverized the raisins, cinnamon, and sugar toward the bottom. I pulled it out to look at it and saw that mixture tucked under the bread so i took it out and smashed it back into the dough. Accidentally Perfect! The swirl was great! It's a very powerful kneader. I like it, but would have to be convinced that it kills the yeast to love it.

Mine was a bit heavy. Great for French toast, but I would have liked a bit lighter bread. Not sure what the +/- buttons adjusted. I made 2lb with King Arthur non bromated all purpose flour. Not sure if you can adjust the cooking time. It was done throughout though. I would have liked more of an apple strudel swirl. As it were we just canned apple butter so it was all there, but a bit more strudel-y would have been better. That's the only thing I have made (just got it). The texture is heavy. I will check out your book. I'm not sure i would make this again because of how heavy, floury, and carby it is. It's good. I just don't do well with baked food (allergic to eggs). But I tried it.

This machine has saved my bread baking as I have aged. Because or arthritis in my hands I am unable to hand knead. Because of back problems is too difficult to deal with stand mixer. I mainly do the dough. Program and shape and bake in the oven, except in summer. Nice to bake in machine and not heat up kitchen. You are not limited to recipes on manual though that is where you start to learn technique.

Well for us, when the power is out, and we are on Solar only, or a small generator... we only have 110/120V, and so this gives us the opportunity to have fresh bread even in a grid down scenario... assuming everything else is OK. It frees us up to focus on other things, while the bread is taking care of itself.

I've spent over 60 years baking bread the old fashioned way but now that I'm over 80 I can no longer knead bread by hand so I either make Artisan or use a bread machine to knead then bake in my own oven. What I do want to suggest to you is to create a sticky bun cinnamon roll recipe that can be mixed the day before, put in the fridge to bake in the morning. I have one but can't share it because it came from a well known bread book.
