- Thanks to Sean Flynn from the Hackham Irish session in Adelaide for suggesting this song to me. Great to be back there after 5-6 years.
This is a song by Ewan MacColl:

The use of 'Jack it / Ram it' and the Shield suggests that this is about the construction of the Thames Tunnel in the mid 1800s:

Some detail in the collection here:

A memorial for the Tunnel Tigers here:

MacColl probably didn't coin the 'Tunnel Tigers' term, as seen here in 1950:

Lovely Tunnel Tigers by Ewan MacColl cover dear Daniel.
Wish you a pleasant weekend.
Warm friendship....Bernard.
Thanks Bernard!
Great song! Excellent performance as always! There`s a good NOVA PBS documentary on how the London Subway tunnels were constructed.
Marvelousss version, Daniel !!!!!!!!! Loooove it !!!!! Great suggestion !
I knew the acappella version by the Johnstons and Paul Brady ....
Thanks Elisa! There are some great versions out there, I liked the Sean Keane version also.
You did a great job of the song as I thought you would . Love it
Thanks for the suggestion! Looking forward to getting along to the session more often.
Well done, Daniel ! I'm sure Ewan MacColl would applaud !
Thanks Tony, his songwriting here is very good. Contrasting the life in different parts of Ireland with the grim reality of tunnel digging makes for a fine song. I'm surprised it isn't better known.
We may need to steal this one!😉
A Hawaiian Irish band? Cool.
Ewan’s version is on Bandcamp, closest to what I am singing apart from me messing with the verse melody.
Love this one! Nice job!
Thanks for listening Chris!
