One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear. It was the age of gargoyles. Stone by day, warriors by night, We were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years. Now, here in Manhattan, the spell is broken, and we live again! We are defenders of the night! We are Gargoyles!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that still remembers that TV show that only ran for three seasons that's also not forget Doctor who from the 1970s the third Doctor played by John pertee
growing up gargoyles was my favorite show. and I watched it faithfully. It took me a while to get a Disney+ account. And when I finally got it I was amazed by the fact that I had not only learned a lot from the show, but the internet as well.
I love Gargoyles, the stories that have come to be based on them is fascinating! And the TV show was one of my earliest childhood memories that I still enjoy. This made my day and helped me out of a bad mood thank you for the video. :)
Fun fact Keith David the voice of Goliath from the original 1994 gargoyles wants to remake it and I think they're in the process of it now not only that Jordan Peele wanted to make a live action adaptation of the gargoyles but Disney said no
While in concept, I would love to see the show remade or spun off, the reality is that I just don't trust them to make a good show anymore. Disney and others are far too bent on politics and churning out nostalgia-bait and the resulting show would be garbage. I think, if done right, a good CGI version would be epic. Make it more thought provoking with fewer conclusions to philosophical issues and relate genuine problems of the human condition where characters may wrestle with them but the show doesn't try and preach at you. In other words, treat the audience as though they actually can think for themselves and don't demean then by demonizing them. The original had it's moments of greatness in this regard. It also had its share of cringe-filled moments (especially in the later episodes) that lacked nuance and depth altogether.
@@sebastiansilverfox6912 Mind giving examples to back up these claims? Also, I'm not entirely sure that a CGI show would be better or even work. I've seen CGI shows, they either do really well or flop out of the gate. Plus, the original animation was fine. So why change it?
I've encountered versions of La Gagouille that describe the creature as a "great serpent" that possesses the power to "drink rivers dry," but they could never agree on the monster's gender; some did refer to it as male, while others claimed it is female since it was also attributed as being the progenitors of the gargoyles. The Disney animated series Gargoyles is still one of my favorite shows, even if the third season got a bit derailed thanks to executive meddling. That series gave Gargoyles their own culture and history, even going as far as to explain their young are hatched from eggs and are raised communally as children of the clan without specifying direct parentage so that they know they are truly children of the clan; it's stated that for Gargoyles to actually have names, traditionally, is a divergence from the norm.
I’m so impressed of this video of yours! From mentioning the series to the basics of what a gargoyle is. Thanks to you, I’ve fallen in love with these creatures. (My favorite gargoyle in the series had to be Brooklyn, though.)
I don't know if this is a weird coincidence. Or just amazing timing. My wife today knows I'm a huge fan of the television show gargoyles. So while she was at Target today she went and bought me a demona plushie from the show gargoyles. Then I turn on my UA-cam subscription and I see this video on gargoyles. 😳
I love how in depth & detailed your content is, cuz I always learn something new from your videos, & love it, too! Extremely well done, yet again, my friend! Absolutely!👍🌹🎀💜🌍
I'm so happy to made this video, I was legit thinking about the gargoyles series that Disney made back in the 90s, that was and still is a awesome show. Also you forgot to mention from the Disney version of the hunchback of notre dame. In Toronto on some old buildings we have gargoyles and there freaky.
Fitting how you use the gargoyles in Notre Dame de Paris as excellent examples. Heck some I can identify as the main basis for Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame. Like that's Laverne 1:04, and the humanoid looking goat is Hugo 1:27.
During refurbishment of Paisley Abbey in Scotland, some of the gargoyles had to be replaced. As they were quite high up, it took the church some time to realize one of the stonemasons had modeled one gargoyle in particular after a Xenomorph from the movie Aliens. The church was indeed amused, and it has remained since.
I went to school at the University of Cincinnati back in the 80’s. One of the women’s dormitories, Memorial Hall, had gargoyles leaning from it. I dated a woman who had salvaged a gargoyle from some bulding supply store. It was squatting on it’s haunches, with cloven hooves, horns, and wings. It was anatomically correct. She put a circular piece of glass on top of him and used him as a coffee table.
I have always been fascinated by gargoyles. I love them; they're so cool and truly artistic. Like a cherry on a sundae, beautiful architecture just isn't finished without them. You're never fully dressed without a gargoyle..😂
The 1990s cartoon Gargoyles was about gargoyles that came to life after the sun went down. There were also gargoyles in a Jonny Quest cartoon and there was also a 1972 movie about gargoyles appropriately called Gargoyles.
As an american boy from the early 90s-2000s, i barely know what a gargoyle is, other than the cartoon. i dont think i would really know they exist otherwise

In Marvel Comics, there was a super hero called the Gargoyle and two super-villains, one called Gargoyle and the other called the Grey Gargoyle. There was even a gargoyle-like hostile alien race called the Stonians.
I haven't watched the disney show in years and I don't know why I dream about it every now and then. Everytime I do, Iask myself "why do I dream about a show I haven't watched in years?"
Ah yes, I am very familiar with Gargoyles and I did remember the Disney tv show very often, they have characteristics are very similar to Dragons which are my most favorite legendary creatures. Wait, Gargoullie has a nickname “Goji” like Gojira?
OMG I saw a picture of a gargoyle of a person like mooning themselves outwards so that the water would come spurting out of his cheeks on his butt I was like I would love to see that thing when it would rain really hard LOL.
It is written that here, there lived Gargoyles. Before the human beings. The Gargoyles lived, as then as today the gargoyles have more rights to live here. Than do you, I or any other human being.....
At this point u can’t talk about the mythology of Gargoyles n the effects they’ve had on pop culture without bringing up the classic Disney cartoon it’s unavoidable n inevitable
You something showing this video about gargoyles and how gargoyles influenced the and it talked about a saint defeating a dragon but also that reminded me of two other saints that did the same thing defeating a dragon and this saints that I'm talking about is saint michael the archangel, saint George and saint romanus all three of this saints makes them legendary Christian dragonslayers and it is very amazing/incredible to know that three saints defeated there own dragons and also there was saint that I didn't know or never knew that he was also a saint and defeated a dragon as well and that saint is none other then beowolf which I looked up in Google and it kinda did say he was too of a Christian I think.
I assumed gargoyles developed from the ugly stone, dragonslayer, old man of Harrow. About a thousand years ago in Europe, if they built a Christian site on pagan ground they had one stone in the wall with a carved monster face. It was to chase off the old bad spirits. A church a mile from me was built over an old monastic site that was built on a Viking settlement. That church has an ugly stone...
