    Love to see HO getting the love Travis, and I'm right in the middle of the detailed 4-lane HO track that I'm building... Dig the setup you've got going on, it can really stretch the legs of that Mega G+ you're running...
    Looking forward to your progression...

    Well done. Easy to see why Monza has always been perhaps the fastest of the GP circuits. I agree with the comment about right turns. My rough sketching of a 1:32 analog layout, I use two lane-change chicanes to even the distance and the challenge to each lane. Also, I use a hairpin at the point where the track come in an makes a right turn into what would be known as the Monza oval. This also has the benefit of shortening the straights used in the bank turns, probably by 1 section of straight.

    Looks great Mate , I agree with adjustment of the crossover by the high bank oval. But you are well on your way to a epic HO layout..

    Hi Travis - you are quicker than me to running up a Monza circuit. Congratulations. The great thing about it is that it flows when you race and we get a pleasing cadence or rhythm which is where the fun is. For me the plan is to do more of a model of the current Monza circuit with Carrera track albeit I can well see the appeal of the original with the banked sections. If we want to be historically accurate then it is important to note that the 'down sizing' came about as a result of some terrible accidents in which Alberto Ascari and Wolfgang von Tripps lost their lives. The three 'variante' or chicanes you have modelled (with the third one marking the spot as Variante Ascari - the most technical section on the modern circuit) simply did not originally exist. Correspondingly it was full throttle down the rettefilio (main straight) and into curve grande (taken flat today because of the effect of the main straight chicane). It is otherwise essentially flat at Monza but there is a gentle uphill out of Curve Grande and into the two Lesmo curves followed by a downhill (dipping underneath the old banked section) and then into what is Variante Ascari today. Classic.

    The ultimate AFX track is the four lane Dayton tri-oval with centre road circuit plan from the book "The Slot Car Bible"
    Fits on a 4 × 8 foot board

    • @scscotto
      @scscotto Рік тому

      I'm looking to do what he has on that floor but on a 4x8 table myself. His area looks larger for sure but I will be working to get it to fit. I've had this idea for over a decade and finally getting the garage rebuilt so will have a table made just for this purpose. I have that slot car bible and that would be the second choice Daytona road course.

      I reckon the four lane Dayton tri-oval with the road circuit is the perfect track
      You can actually increase the length of the track a little over the size of the plan on a 4×8 board

      The last time I set up the track was a few years ago and I didn't have the banked curves and so used 9" and 12" flat curves insead, but it was excellent and there could be advantages to setting it up using flat curves on a permanent layout
      Since then I've acquired 9" and 12" banked curves so next time I can make it exactly like the plan in the Bible
      If I was you no matter what track you choose I wouldn't be rushing to make it a permanent "fixed" track, at least not untill you decided what track you'd really want
      I'd suggest you make say a green 4×8 table with a border so you could change the layouts while you decide
      But I know what track I be making, just gotta see if it's better flat or banked

    • @scscotto
      @scscotto Рік тому

      I found my book and yes it looks easily doable. I would not need the 4 lane though as I'd only have myself and occasionally someone else to run with. I think banked being the real track would be the way to go. I'm set on doing the old Monza though as best I can replicate on the 4x8 layout. A friend has already checked the pieces necessary and it should work two lane of course. If it works and turns out looking good I'll put good effort into doing scenery and utilizing the many pieces of buildings etc I accrued over the years. Would like to see yours if you set it up again and with the banking. Cheers ! @@hodaka1000

    Isn't the left half of the track a huge "waste of space"? What I mean is you'll have this tiny track at the edge of a giant table where their is a huge empty space in the middle. At real Monza this is just a park/forest area. I think you could try to tighten the left part of the track up, make it smaller. Also the real curva grande is not a 90 degree turn, but a long sweeping right corner so if you do that you can make the table smaller.

    • @thatslotcarguy

      I will make some changes but the corner you mention is going to be hard to replicate in AFX... But changes are needed

    If you can find them, you need a set of adapters that goes to the old AFX track and a power tap that fits between the old style AFX track. Then you can use any power supply and new better controllers

    • @thatslotcarguy
      @thatslotcarguy  2 роки тому

      I'm not sure how I could do that if I'm re creating MONZA, maybe I can add cross overs

      @@thatslotcarguy Crossovers would just increase unnecessary wrecks.
      If you're dead set on recreating an actual track, then you're kinda stuck with a certain layout. But if you let your imagination go, you can create a track that's both equally competitive and entertaining.
