    This demonstration is extraordinarily helpful to someone who, like me, was, until now, playing « by ear »
    with a total disregard for the correct timing of scores, simply because I had not been taught it.

    The last 16th note after the 8th, and 16th note rests in the first measure of the final bar tripped me up for a second. Coffee helped. Great Video! Thanks! =)

    Oh my God, I barely know anything about reading music. I took my time to figure out what was going on. But once I figured it out, it really seemed a fun way to learn syncopation. Definitely coming back to practice again.

    Wow lol I’ve Been drumming for basically all my life (only 20) but I gotta say I’m really glad my high school band director really drilled us to learn syncopations 😭 this was super fun and I was so concentrated the whole time 👏🏾👌🏾

    First, you have to know how to count 1/4, 1/8 & 1/16 th. notes. Get the drum book: Ted Reed, Syncopation.

    After exercises like this, my problem becomes not holding white notes for long enough. It's as if being "zoomed in" makes me forget how long long notes really are.

    I dont understand some of the pauses still have notes so how do you read them as pauses ? Sometimes even with a tying symbol attached. If the intention was to leave a pause why bother writing a note at all ?

      to sustain notes, create variety in music by short and long notes. If we have never played your music, we do not know how long to make the notes. do you want all notes to be same length? think of people lecturing that way.
