Nice project, Matt! Leather is so nice to work with. Don't have that much experience with it myself (made some sheaths for knives and axes), but I always enjoy making something with it. If I may make a suggestion? You might consider making a holster for the camera, to put on your belt. That way it carries on your hip, and it won't dangle + you don't have to put that (imho) rather tight strap around your neck.
Great work! I love how you show your process of going from problem to solution. That is indeed an elegant solution to your stated goals. I'm just getting into leather working myself. Mainly just making little pocket things for chisels and marking knives and such. I do love your solution for carrying your camera around. Definitely gives me some ideas for a "carpenters belt" project I want to do. Thanks for posting this! :)
Nice design Matt. I would have slicked (burnished) the edges first though. Nice to see the Fujifilm love here too. I retired from the company a couple of years ago after 30 years. My whipping method is a little different from yours.
Nice Matt, never worked with leather even thou my Grandfather was a cobbler for 70 plus years and his father was a master boot maker. Your cross body strap needs to be adjustable to allow clothing variations at a guess. I know rucksacks need seasonal adjustments 😊
Great video! I love how you tell a story in your videos. Fun project and well done. As a hobby, I apprenticed with a former French, Hermes artisan and then worked with an American saddle maker. I have not ever seen someone skive with a chisel. It worked so well. Or, maybe that was you making it look easy. 😊
Nice video Matt! I enjoy the non woodworking videos that you do. Think you’ll be making a deluxe adjustable version soon. Not sure it’ll fit over winter clothes
Nice to see you do some leather working again Matt, that seemed to come out quite well for you, sometimes the only way is to try different things till you find exactly what you want ! If you haven't seen them try searching for "leather camera harness" these are used by pros that need to switch between different camera/lens combinations continually. They might be overkill for you, but the design might be good to observe & copy ! Photography is a great hobby, glad it's getting you out and about more, I see you have a number of film cameras there, have you done any film processing yet ?
I didn’t know you were also a Fuji guy! I don’t use mine for the channel but I love my XT3. I adapted vintage lenses to an old XT20 and they were great for out and about - a bit of Helios 44 action amongst others 😁
That's a great design! I bought into the Peak Designs system because I wanted the same things you did. They have little "buttons" that stay affixed to the camera and then you can clip in a wrist strap or sling or whatever. I was too lazy to make something myself. 🤪
@@Badgerworkshop yeah, I can see that being an issue. I really like how the strap stays stationary with your design. I might have to un-lazy myself and make something similar. 🙃
Really awesome work, Matt! 😃 But wait... I think I saw you make a stitching... thingy. Didn't I? 🤔 Something to hold under your legs, I believe, to hold the piece. Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Hi Matt, you are certainly a ' ideas man' great work on the straps, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much

Great design and build. Nicely explained too. I think my old leather belt might have just got a reprieve!
The staggered joint is called a “Scarf Joint” 😉
I have really enjoyed your video, especially the fact that you have shared your thought process. Great video.😁
Thank you very much

Thank you. A tool belt would be a good project

That sounds an amazing apprenticeship. I’m sure there is I proper tool for the job but the chisel seemed to work

looks tight though..
That is a great idea. I think you could sell those

I have that lens and love it
Great job
Thank you

I tried that system and it is nice. Just found the strap rubbed in the summer

Thank you. I did used to have a stitching pony. I need to make a new one
Looks like the perfect solution. Some of your cameras look quite old. Are they all digital or do you also use film?
I have a selection of film and digital cameras
A Skiver always performed their task whilst sitting down whereas everyone else was standing up; hence the use of the term for 'lazy' people
Why use cord instead of rivets in the leather?
Either would work
