- Here is a sample of the 14 minute clip of the Beatles first USA press conference in New York City, NY. They were FAB! The press conference itself was about 7 minutes, however they had to get there and then leave - thus 14 minutes total. Enjoy!
"Would you please sing something?"
"NO."
...
"We need money first."
Ah, John. :)
"Will you sing for us?"
"No!"
"We need money First"
I don't know if anyone today could handle this kind of aggressive rudeness with the charm and good humor that the Beatles did.
Its cause they all came from gritty working class backgrounds and noone really knew how the music industry was supposed to be run yet. Today's artists are way too sensitive and protected by their management to say the first thing that comes to mind and laugh at themselves like these guys did.
Whilst that's true, and also if you're gonna come from anywhere to deal with harsh shit, come from Liverpool, scousers are known for their sarcasm and humour, but they did start to resent it.
There's some embarrassing questions there for sure
They weren’t like anyone else back then. The irreverence they often showed was rather unusual for that time. People acted more serious and weren’t as quick to throw out funny/sarcastic answers as the Beatles did. It was just part of how they were different and changed the world….not just with their music and hair, but EVERYTHING!
"Let the feasting begin!" George had some zingers here.
Everyone talks about Lennon's jokes and Ringo's physical comedy but I think George came out with all the best one liners.
@@georgefirehorse6568 George was probably the wittiest of them all, close with John.
George would always come up with the best lines... He had an amazing sense of humor ❤️
@@stephenbrown1867 they were all witty but john def was the fastest
George was the coolest of them all
This press conference was a historic one.
The part that stands out to me as an American was Ringo immitating Elvis' hip swivel and the " cut that crap out " comment 😂
I'd have much better questions for them, but then again no-one knew they were gonna be legendary at that point in time
+magicman93 The reporters were all middle aged men who couldn't understand why their 12 year old daughters were wetting their panties over these freaky looking foreigners. They thought the Beatles were just the latest fad who would be forgotten in two months. Little did they know.
they were already a damned good band if the press had done any fucking research at all. they show how stupid america looks.
I wanna find the part that has the one reporter that asks, "Do you guys think you're just a bunch of English Elvis Presleys?"
And Ringo starts dancing like Elvis and says, "No, no!"
Have you found it
i was trying to find that one because i found it at 2 in the morning and i was legit in hysterics
Classic Ringo he was having a ball.

It’s in the “Imagine” documentary about John
ooh my god john in this press conference is so adorable.
The moment when the world changed. The press came to burst their bubble but The Beatles were two steps ahead. They made fun of themselves and their success before anyone else.
0:38 Look at these beautiful and adorable baby legends. 😍😭😙♥♥♥♥
Baby legends 🤣😂❤️👍

"a bit bumpy over alaska"
41 seconds in look at Paul's face😆
Cracks me up every time, and I nearly fall off my seat! 🤣
@@amandaschaefer3786 Dang I don't even remember writing this comment, I was like 10 or 11. Still that's amazing haha 😂
It was bumpy over Alaska.
These guys are hilarious.
"Tell Murray the K to cut that crap out!!' lol
I can't imagine what the people in Benton, IL. who had met an unknown George in September 1963 were feeling when they saw this.
At 0:17 George says "Let the feasting begin..."
It was 50 years ago today..
52 today
53 years now
Hanna Concannon 55 years now :(
Sgt Pepper taught the band to play....
gabriela pretty sure its 56
Paul:I'm Paul. But don't tell anyone.
John:I'm deaf and dumb too.
Haha I love them.(:
I'm pretty sure Paul said "I'm bald."
the question was about them losing their hair and paul said "i'm bald, but don't tell anyone".
Baby Geo looks absolutely adorable 🤗
By the time the Beatles arrived in the US they had already taken all of Europe, the Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean countries. They had already been to many countries already and were a bit bored by having to answer the same few questions over and over and over. The American press labeled them as cocky unkept smart-alecks when they were just being young silly guys. Their songs were played so much on the radio that my father absolutely hated their music when he was younger. He liked it a lot later on in life though.
Today: 2021 January 16 th.
56 years ago. I was also so young like them. I am happy that I made part of those such wonderful time, 60's and the 70's
So cute Paulie. How I Love you😍❤🎵
HEY MURRAY!
Aww, Paul's face at 0.41 haha
0:41
It’s actually creepy
lol I love this conference ❤😭
if we knew we'd form another group and become managers...
"CUT THAT CRAP OUT!"
"I'm bald."
My favorite part of the whole interview though was when they asked them about the comment that they're just British Elvis Presleys and Ringo starts dancing like him going "IT'S NOT TRUE! IT'S NOT TRUE!"
"Would you please be quiet!" "SHUT UP!" 🤓
George looks shy!! It's little wonder these boys became the monopoly of an entire generation. Once the Beatles landed nobody else got a look in for 7 years following. Still today, nobody can compete.
Apparently George was sick at the time. The flu I think. 🤔🤧
@@maryannlockwood7806 hence the Quiet Beatle name...
might make it big
They handled themselves with witty humour and aplomb, despite the stupid questions from the press.
@Ladymanico. No, it was February 7,1964. They made their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show two days later. The Beatles broke up in 1970.
George said "A bit bumpy over Alaska ..." Weren't they coming from England? That would have been a continental detour/flyover to have been over Alaska coming from London's Heathrow before they landed at Idlewild. No reporter at the press conference found that unusual, no wonder those sods were asking questions like "Does all that hair help you sing?" WTF! I'd like to think George said that tongue in cheek and the non reaction must've confirmed his thoughts on American education. especially on geography.
@strgazr
I think it is existing somewhere- maybe in archives or in a private collection & that would be nice to see & hear the whole picture, not just parts=)
Good to know the questions were as dumb then as they are now lmao
"Let the feasting begin..."
HE IS A VAMPIRE
lol
@Ladymanico 1964.... because it was 1964.
The Beatles weren't together in 1974, and none of them looked like that.
"is it that you dont WANT to sing?"
"no we need money first"
haha
america just wasn't ready for them.
Anyone know the name of the bald guy with glasses standing to the left who tells everyone to shut up? I’ve seen him in so many Beatles clips and photos and I’ve never known who he was.
Yes. Brian Sommerville. He was The Beatles PR manager for that USA trip.
I know this because he was my Uncle Brian!! He was from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
@@richardsommerville4751 thank you Richard for the info! Did he ever share with you what it was like to work with The Beatles?
Yes. All the time!! Only ever had nice things to say about them. Always referred to them as ‘those lads’!! He was an ex-Naval officer hence his slightly pompous tone.
But he was only with The Beatles for 12months though before he then moved away from London & the music industry altogether a couple of years later. He moved to a remote farmhouse in North Yorkshire where me & my brothers spent a good chunk of our childhoods.
@@richardsommerville4751 thank you so much for sharing, Richard 🙏🌟
Why can't you post the whole 7 minutes of them talking? I can't find it anywhere!!!
ugh-the constant ridiculous questions about their hair! No wonder they detested the press later on.I apologize for the stupidity of others. They looked fantastic..
"We're all bald!" lololol
"Will you please SHUT-UP!"
Ha, that was funny. Does anyone know if the whole interview is available? I've heard it was 15 minutes.
@shikiku Search "British Elvis Presleys" or just look under my uploads and you'll find it. I couldn't find it on UA-cam either, so I just uploaded it myself!
0:29 "Oh please please please..."
"Is it true that you can't sing?"
"Nooo, we need money first!" :D

1:03 George...? Are you sure your plane their flew over Alaska?
0:26 Wow! John looks thin!
Ugh, I read that Murry the K was really annoying. He even followed them to Washington :P Talk about a stalker.
Bald, not Paul.

@Ladymanico :)
Cut the crap Mary
This was 1974
No it was 1776
Did they REALLY merit this kind of treatment? I mean, really? Or was it all publicity and we have all been taken in? Yup. We have.
