Meh... sweet bike but it doesn’t matter unless you do track days its just as slow as a 1999 R1 stuck in traffic but here lane filtering isn’t legal. So it really is slow.
I would love to see a successor to the hp4. Some of the active aero bmw patented Front swing arm? Full carbon, carbon wheels, carbon frame, fairing, swing arms Maybe a hybrid 3 cylinder engine or an electric supercharger. Just something bonkers
@650ib the first wave is supposed to be here soon! I STILL CAN'T GET A LOCKED IN DATE YET BUT I'M DYING TO GET A LEG OVER MY MRR COMPETITION. ANY UPDATES ON YOUR END?
it has been a long while since BMW made a bike like that, and even longer since they made one that's actually good. The last one I can remember was the F800S/F800ST and they had that horrible early version of the 800 parallel-twin. I had both of those bikes for service loaners a few times and hated them. Don't know if that engine family has got any better in the subsequent years, but I was always happy when I reclaimed my own bike!
I love the detailed breakdown of the new bike. Coincidentally, I just finished a two-day California Superbike camp, riding their 2021 S1000rr bikes. They truly are lovely, easy to ride motorcycles, with loads of power on tap as students progress over time. I look forward to seeing the new M 1000rr when it becomes available.
Good for you! I got blacked flagged during my level 1, exercise #4 getting loose on the bike. I passed the guy on the inside of the turn while his control rider watched in disbelief. Basically I got really loose and comfy on my RC51, mission accomplished :)
I used to amateur road-race when I was younger on my 1992 ZX-7RR and this bike calls my name! It's these bits and pieces that make it extra special and race ready. If I am going to buy a bike with over 200hp it might as well be special and track ready, I just change the tires and set up suspension. I see myself riding this into the sunset at Laguna Seca. And even if it spits me out into the audience stand in the corkscrew, it wouldn't matter, looks like a beautiful and perfect machine to die on!
Quick info. The data logger which is called "M GPS Lap Trigger" is actually also available for the standard S1000RR (with a needed activation code). I'll have a video on the system soon I hope. ;-)
@@jtab5392 Not if the trend for used BMW bikes continues, a used S1000RR from 2010 still goes for $10k here in the states with over 40k miles on it. By that logic, 5 years from now the M1000RR will be $25k in 5 years on the used market.
That was the best review I’ve seen on this bike Neevesey. The bike seems to get criticism based on how it looks, however the platform it is built from is proven. I think you hit the nail on the head at the end “this is built to do one job”. Spot on, it’s been built to allow BMW to be competitive at higher level.
Wouldn't even dream of riding/owning this particular bike, but I just enjoy listening to Neevesy give detailed reviews of all bikes. I'll take the tourer with slippers!! Good onya mate.
When describing his own bike, he mentions an add-on that limits the engine to 2 cylinders until needed which helps with preserving tires. Could somebody tell me what this add-on part from alpha racing is?
Logical evolution for the RR if i had the brass tacks i would definitely need one! Hopefully the R in M trim will be in my $ bracket it's definitely more suitable for my old bones all though I still keep thinking there is still one last sports bike left in me!
Hopefully, this will lead to a more competitive SBK bike. I'm a Kawasaki man myself (i own 2 of 'em), but it would be nice to see more brands in the mix for a steady top 3 placement.
Think you could add that the WHOLE exhaust is titanium made by Akra end to end even with Cat. Lot lighter. But I take that the M is a serious bike to do the job which puts the Ducati on the fancy toy for sunday rides and decorate your living room XD.
Great in depth review! Thanks for picking apart all of the details between them. Never was a BMW fan until they started making the S1000. I totally disagree, that one is a future Museum piece!
Another brilliant bike & a terrific review Mick. 👏🏼 I had the very first S1000RR in the tricolour option here out of Melbourne, Australia back in 2010. Ballistic bike! More bike then I was capable of riding. Nonetheless it was a great allrounder. Traded that in on a S1000R in 2015, just because I couldn’t utilise it’s potency. Six months ago I traded that for a R18! Two reasons. One, I’m getting oldER, two, our draconian speed laws here in Oz. Anyway what a bloody machine!😈👍🏼🇦🇺
He made some great analogies with comparisons to a 911 GT3 or M3 CSL. I was appropriate that he went waaaay back to the M3 CSL as a companion because with the possible exception of the M2 Comp, M cars have become less and less M/sportbike like over the years and more and more cruiser like.
I’ll never get disappointed by MCN reviews I follow you for a longtime and I know superbikes are your favourite, but mate can you make a review for the new KTM 1290 super adventure R ? 😅
Sooo basically an aprilia rs 660 - the power and - the launch control but with fancier lights and slightly better looks :) Not bad not bad at all. I do want a 1000RR now.
I’ve been riding my dads 1st generation S1000RR and it is awesome but you gotta give to the newer models since they are good looking and more technologically advanced since it’s not just raw power and little electronics on it compared my dads one
I bought this bike , but I would like to share with you guys my thoughts . I am frustrated because I can’t take this bike to the track because it is expensive and I tried to get insurance that could cover the track day but I couldn’t. So what is the point of buying this bike which is very expensive and powerful if you can’t take it to the track because I am afraid of dropping it . Please advice
This isn't a fashion victim bike, it's made to do a job, to go around a track very fast - I love the engineering and thinking, I can't afford it mind ! Maybe BMW will take the next step at wsb now ?
As promised... Here is a quick review of the M GPS LapTrigger: ua-cam.com/video/tTpb9FjcHJ8/v-deo.html (available in French here: ua-cam.com/video/F86BTCMdrsI/v-deo.html ). Hope it will be of interest for some of you guys! ;-)
Always like listening to Nevesy no matter what the bike reviewed. Agree 100% with his conclusion, paraphrasing: Basically a bike to homologate it's engine for racing teams, funded by middle agers with more money than skills that want the bragging rights. Sorry. ie. Worse for the road than the S as the power is higher up and the chassis is lengthened and set up for top speed stability. And for racing it will be stripped down and rebuilt with proper race spec eq, electronics, etc. anyway. Not going to make enough difference on track days unless ridden by someone who wouldn't own one anyway in stock form because they ride actual race spec bikes. Nice to show off with though, but if that's the goal any Panigale will probably get more attention.
Clearly an awesome bit of kit but as you say for £31k I'd be expecting the trick suspension and more attention to detail in areas - cheap plastic mudguards and seat infills, really? Carbon would have been nice. And it doesn't even have a brake lever guard which is now mandatory for track use.
Please don't take this as a critism, but I've always found the production quality on MCN vide's to be really low. Not only was the video quality that which you might suspect you would get if shot on a potatoe, but they're clearly thrown together with little to no thought. Great riders, interesting takes, but not fun to watch. This video however, is excellent!! Please keep more content like this coming - the extra effort really pays off. Thank you for the upload.
So understanding that this is a bike that really is made for the track, the lack of extra carbon bits make sense. Now my question to you is, how close to (or how far ahead or better) is this than the HP4 Race (easily the best bike I've ever ridden)? "a bag of spuds on the front end" hahaha.
What are your thoughts on the new 2021 BMW M1000RR?
Bellissima. Beautiful machine. Really want to try one.

Awesome looking bike, hopefully BMW will follow Aprilia soon and bring out a real world middle weight sports bike like the new Rs660
Excellent review Mate! I can't wait to collect my M 1000 RR soon 💯💯💯
I can't wait to see it.
Congrats on your M1000RR Mate

What a machine! And Neevsey is in a different league as a journo - very easy to watch / listen to and always enjoyable.
BMW are killing it. What I’d love to see is a 600 mid range sports tourer to compete with Aprilia’s 660 and Honda’s CBR 650r.

The s1000rr superbike prototype started with r6 fairings. And I like a bike that you just can start up and ride with out a bunch of adjustments.
What an amazing bit of kit. Way more than I could manage.
Look at all those beautiful boxes of brand new bikes in the background, Wow. Love the look of the 2021 BMW M1000RR

I have watched tens of video with these 2 bikes....yours is the best ever. Thank you, amazing explanations

Variable valve timing isn't a performance mod. Its a fuel efficiency mod. Its similar to v tec on Honda.

Hopefully it'll just be like the R1M, i.e. they dont purposely worsen the normal model and just make this model full on for the track
