The headline is not what JJ said.
He’s speaking about the players around Brown and Tatum. He said “the group potentially reached its ceiling” and he’d look at adjustments to the supporting players.
well that wouldnt get clicks but the current title will which is why i clicked myself
@@fuckslattyy yeah same here. I noticed ESPN does this alot on their channel.
This is exactly what needs to happen. The Celtics have had these guys for 6 years and 3 different coaches. It's the same result. It's time to change the roster around JB and JT
But if he thinks this duo can win the chip that’s the whole goal, no ???
Welcome to media controlled narratives
Malcolm Brogdon has been a borderline All Star as a Point Guard and is a pretty traditional 18pt 7assist guy, I have felt all year he should be starting and running the offense more. Instead they used him like a 3 and D guy spacing the floor for Brown and Taum with the ball.
I agree. Brogdon should be playing more on the ball. Tatum should be running off screens.
EXACTLY. HIM AND SMART SHOULD SWAP
no post no consistent half court offense.
His game is weird and clumsy…!!! He can go 2 ➡️➡️➡️➡️💯🍀🍀🍀
Brogdan was injured
I don’t get how the Celtics had the size advantage the whole series yet continued to shoot 3’s at a bad percentage in games 6&7.
Simple answer: Zone Defense
@@mrpogz not an answer moving the ball quick against a zone creates tons of open 3s which they normally hit. They chokers
We’re soft
@@lucasphillips2177 The problem is Celtics are not great making threes if it's zone defense. You're right, they choke threes in big moments and unfortunately that's their only option against zone defense.
That's their problem. They are too overly reliant on the three-ball to their detriment. They look like world beaters when their threes are going down. But when they aren't falling, they don't seem to know how to adjust and find other ways to generate offense. How many times have we seen their offense grind to a halt because they go cold from three, and they continue to jack up threes hoping to get out of it. Tatum and Brown are not Steph and Klay and never will be.
If a ceiling is “Finals” then that’s a pretty tall building.
Kyrie should've helped brown with his handles before he left
Say it louder for those in the back.
@Arraez 4 MVP they expect every team to win a championship every year 😂
The Celtics were done immediately when they got rid of Udoka. S/O to Boston for shooting themselves in the foot. Galinari was missing also.
I agree udoka was huge for them
Except they had a lot of the same issues with udoka? Blown leads, long stretches without scoring, was all there last year. Was there under Brad too. They were dogshit under udoka until the all star break and then came out like a juggernaut. Only one to blame for getting rid of Udoka is Udoka himself can’t blame it all on Mazulla who lost both his two assistant coaches, one at the start and one during the season.
@@guyprieto1593 they went to 3 other conf. finals when Udoka wasn't there
@@allsopp91 Udoka > Brad + Joe. Ime actually took them to The Finals.

Imagine if the heat coach had the Celtics squad. They would at least win 2 chips. Coaching (defensive & offensive schema, knowing player strengths, etc) matters.

When JT got hurt it was supposed to be JB moment. He blew it.

Blow it? This is the first playoff series I seen that brown wasn't consistent by I've seen Tatum fade more than less be inconsistent

Skip called them the turnover twins 😂. They ain’t had a real point since Rondo😮
@@DATBOIYK. Should JB have been offended when his name was brought up in trade talks for KD?
I think it’s crazy how one game can completely change people’s opinion. If they would’ve won and if they would’ve went to the finals they’d be a legendary duo
It’s sports media they say anything nowadays
That's because winning at this level is A proof that they are of championship caliber.
@@josephgreene4174 thank you! Just getting here means they are good, but if they can’t get over the hump, means they are only that good winning a chip means something losing in the rounds before the finals don’t make them legendary common sense.
thats all it takes, one mistake is the difference between "great" and "legendary" if you think about it. Mj is legendary because he's 6/6 lebron is clowned on regardless of how many finals appearances... but bron is legendary im just saying for the analogy purpose.
So true!
I agree with SAS on this. Those two together along with the other pieces are more than capable of winning a Championship. They just keep falling short in crucial moments that will take them over the top. They don't just choke, they throw up in crucial times.
No they not..5 times reach conference finals
@@xavierb9061 Yes, they are. They will get over the hump one day.

Not saying Mazzulla is the guy but Brown and Tatum need a consistent environment and culture. They have been through the Kyrie experience and 3 coaches. The new CBA is going to be difficult to team build with 2 max guys though.
Try saying this like a man with your chest instead of adding “not” before a statement like Instagram model
@@kyriekyrie4752 Try finding a mirror under that troll bridge of yours.
@@kyriekyrie4752 Kyrie still sucks though. Lol
That's a great insight. I think Brown mentioned too that Miami has an "identity" that Boston doesn't have yet. A lot of analysts keep referencing Miami "culture" too. There's a longevity, an attitude, a POV, whatever you want to call that exists in one org but not the other. Boston needs consistency + long-term preparation, and a singular focus to rally around.

People forget how important Gallinari injury was..He was one player on the Celtics who was able to post up
brogdon going down was huge too. better playmaker and best 3 point shooter on the team. heat had injuries too so no excuses, but herro is trash on defense , i think you can argue they’re better without him and caleb getting the minutes.

I love how ESPN clickbait JJ's comments.
Tatum 25, Brown 26. In no way am I comparing these guys to Jordan and Pippen but they were 28 and 25 when they started winning championships, Lebron was 27, Steph was 27, KD was 28.. Boston just gotta keep building around them 2, go get them a true PG that can run the offense and get the ball out of their hands because they can’t get easy shots just dribbling the ball.
Thank you they’re missing a true pg. smart ain’t a pg. Tatum and brown are scorers. It’s not in their game to set up everyone else’s shot and still get their own. Need a pg to come in there and take that burden off of them. Even with tatums injury on the first play a real pg would of been huge in last nights game. They rely too much on 3s and isolation. They move the ball more and attack the paint they’re hard to beat and opens up easier in rhythm catch and shoot 3s.
Boston got plenty of pieces surrounding Tatum and brown they just not who y'all fan boys think they is especially Tatum
@@DATBOIYK Ridiculous, hating on young players 😅
Facts!
They celtics are entering the thunder KD Westbrook territory. Jalen is Westbrook and Tatum needs someone else to be the leader like Curry. He just wants to ball
I think the problem is Marcus Smart. I think they need a better facilitator and scorer from the PG position.
Time to bring in yam madar, worth the shot
Marcus Smart saved us in games 4, 5 and 6
It’s like day and night difference when listening to JJ and Steven 😂. Thank you JJ, you’re special!
if marcus spears is a pokemon its the evolution of kendrick perkins
People don't realize how talented the Celtics are. They had everything and every ingredient needed to win a title. Wing scoring, athleticism, grit from guys like Grant Williams, perimeter shooting, willing defenders like Smart and White, really good depth with Brogdon (before he got hurt), length and size from guys like Robert Williams. I really don't know what more they need. Mazzulla was gift-wrapped a Ferrari.
Facts it there so call stars who's failing them
celtics need a true PG marcus smart should be coming off the bench not starting
@@DATBOIYK It's something like this yes. Tatum and even Brown can be called stars, but they lack something that the biggest stars have. Consistency. They can seem Top-3 in the league one game and average on the next and that makes the whole team inconsistence because guys do not know who to trust and that's the reason why they have chemistry issues too because even among them they both have arguments to say they are better. Tatum is a better basketball player but he may be even more inconsistent. In fact, in last year's finals Brown seemed more like the star of the team like Tatum. All teammates of Steph, Luka, KD, Bron... They know those guys are that dude and there is no mistake. Because on their worst game they look better than 80% of the league. On their worst game Tatum and Brown look like bench fillers given a ton of minutes by accident.
Because hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard
Nah bro they just ran into the chef on a warpath last year and Jimmy on his warpath this year too early to panic Tatum only 25 he’s clearly going to be a problem he’s not even in his prime browns a beast too
They need a great coach to take them over the hump. Mozula is not that.
I strongly agree!!!
JJ Redick summerized it perfectly, Jayson Tatum is a Perfect Batman. They need veteran presence and experienced coach.
No he's not and that's the problem with this team. You guys expect Tatum to be something he's not. He came out of his own mouth and basically implied he doesn't believe he's a superstar after game 5 of the finals last year. He's no different this year as far as his mental makeup. He's soft, and he doesn't have the burst to attack the rim consistently against great comp
@@myleekb Yeah man I just mentioned it as sarcasm. Tatum is not the guy for leading your team to a championship. He may be a perfect robin but not the Batman. He’s too inexperienced to do so. But I think with veteran presence and a good coach he may develop into a guy who could lead into their team to a championship.
He should just run his contract and go play with Luka
Tariq is a number 2.
He’s not Batman though. He’s Batman sometimes but more Robin when it comes to high pressure situations. He doesn’t have that killer mentality and does corny stuff to make losses even worse. That Kobe text and the jacket he wore saying “anything is possible” lol he’s always getting meme’d to death because he does stupid stuff before big games then shits the bed.
It's funny how after a bad game, people are questioning Jaylen Brown instead of highlighting Marcis Smart once again failing huge defensively and affecting the offense. Both last season and this one, he led each series in flops and ref complaints. It is insane how he fell asleep on so many uncontested shots. Why in the world is that not being highlighted. If anything, he gotta go. And why wasn't Grant Williams playing but complaining on the sidelines? Same thing he did last series with the GSW.
They can win a championship together. But the problem is Jaylen hates the management and it shows in his game. No other option but to trade him.
JB personally told you that?
I mean can you blame him with how many times they have dangled him out in trade talks? He doesn't trust them and honestly i can see why.
Is that the reason his handle sucks?
man but to be honest management can be at fault because both guys are pretty successful, but if you put them around totally different pieces they may actually win a ring. of course depends who but these guys compete really well theyll fit in any team you put them on together.
This wasn’t even a topic a conversation when it was tied 3-3 lol

Did they forget that Tatum is the star who never gets scrutinized, why is Brown the scapegoat. It took 4 games for Tatum to score a point in the 4th quarter and they lost 3 of them, straight. He played a bad game and also the game plan was to jack up 3 pointers, no plays called to get him in the post or driving. Brown just needs to really work on his handles this off-season, that's his weak area.
Celtics fans, including myself, overreacted after a very disappointing game last night, so I dont really blame people for the trade talks for JB. He played arguably his worst game of his postseason career, but I give him props for recognizing his failure to lead his team after Tatum went down.
The one thing that this team hasn’t had with Jaylen and Jayson is something everyone should keep in mind; stability. 3 different head coaches in a span of three seasons, personnel changes especially going from kyrie to kemba and then trading kemba away. Teams that are in the upper echelon of contenders all have some stability with their core roster and head coach (i.e. Denver, Miami, Golden State, and Bucks until this year). It allows teams to build an identity and a culture, and I think thats what Boston has been lacking. Going from last year to this year, Boston didnt change the roster much, so I think Brad Stevens will hopefully decide to keep building what they have instead of blowing it up completely.
This is valid, and hopefully we will stop seeing good coaches get fired after one lackluster season. Lakers fans calling for Darvin Ham's head is ridiculous. Same with Mazzula.
@@solido888 yeah I thought Darvin Ham did a good job, unfortunately the Lakers just never were able to have enough time with their roster post-trade deadline to fully jell. AD and Bron both have work to do (assuming Bron doesn’t retire) because their lack of consistent jump shooting this year made their entire offense worse. Every successful team in nba history didnt get to that point by going out and making blockbuster trades and signings in a single offseason. It takes time for these teams to figure things out together.
Well… unless you’re Golden State with KD, then you can steam roll through everything. But everyone tries to be that next “unstoppable big three” but they all fail for the most part.
without tatum getting hurt we win no doubt imo
Honestly, Mark Jackson is the coach that this team needs. They need someone who will challenge them, not be there friend like Joe M.
Is the coach distracted or something? It seems he is dealing with a problem of some sort?
Tatum and Brown are just another Durant and Westbrook story… if they only could make it work, in the long run they will be great TOGETHER.
And this is from a Miami Heat fan.
As a heat fan I think their fine..it’s not just their already championship level roster, look around the league..a lot of aging stars and up and coming teams that are about 2 seasons away from coming together for real contendership..they would really only have Denver in the way and maybe the suns..I actually have them winning a chip somewhere in the next 3 years..with that said let’s go heat 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Ime Udoka beat Miami in 6 last season.
Eric Spoelstra beat Joe Mazulla in 7 this season.
Essentially both teams have the same players as last season give or take a few different players but both teams were pretty much identical to last season’s teams. The only differences were that Boston had a significantly less experienced Coach this season than they had last season…!!!!!
The Coaching disparity was clearly a huge factor in Miami winning the ECF title. The decision to hire a 34 year old Rookie in Joe Mazulla is a curious one, considering the level of Coaches available at the time of Udoka’s departure… Coaches such as Avery Johnson, Rick Carlisle, Marc Jackson etc… They all could have potentially been hired to replace Ime IF the front office was SERIOUS about trying to win a championship with this core…!!!! 💯🍀🍀🧐🧐

Brogdon is injury prone if he's a full-time starter. Thats why he comes off the bench.
@Joey Badass he's versatile enough to set up an offense. Part of their issue the past two years has been that Brown/Tatum start going shot for shot when the offense gets outta sink. When they hot it works when they not they just dig a hole bigger than the one they was in. A true point (not necessarily saying Brogden is) can or could have set them up in their spots instead of them play iso and jacking up 3's
Gallinari was a huge piece. Needed a reliable shooter
Give these two a true point guard and much decent center rather than breaking them apart.
Their centers are great
They play the same position. They’re both SF, even though they list Brown as a 2. Neither can create shots for others, which is what you need from at least one of them.
That’s why they need a pg.
That's cap Tatum is a great playmaker. The Celtics' problem is that they suck when he's on the bench and lose 15 point leads. Brown didn't show up against the Heat simple.
He doesn’t want it badly. Too busy showing off his kid.
J.B work on his game in the offseason. Handles , mid range, 3pt shooting.
Mazula should watch videos of high school kids breaking a zone.

He wouldn't have helped. The Celtics had the same flaws under him that they have now with Mazzulla.
I believe Tatum & Brown have reached their ceiling as far as talent. From a talent perspective I don't see Tatum & Brown getting any better, but in order for Boston to win a championship they'll have to adjust how they play the game. When I look at their team last year in the finals and compare them to the team that lost last night, they didn't show any growth.
I understand, but when I think of tatum being barely 25, i think he has room. I could see him in his prime in 3 years
@@7CFlo It depends if he changes his game & mentality. If he continues to play the same for the next 3 years, then his prime won’t look much differently from how he looks now. Think Paul George. A player with height, handles, the ability to shoot & defend, but has a “too cool” demeanor.
@@queyoung6597 I agree that the mental aspect is just as important as any other. It'll depend on how his mind develops I guess

They probably ain’t gonna be no dynasty because it’s a lot of talent in the league but I think they could win a championship. It’s hard to win a championship today. From 2019 to now no one has gone to the finals back to back years. It’s been a lot of parody now.

Tweak the roster get some better assistant coaches and run it back. In 2-3 seasons they still haven’t won a chip brown will be 28-29 in his prime on a long term deal he’ll still be tradeable
@wade is so old yeah exactly. Plus these two have played together they know each other unless they are beefing keep them and retool you have a contending team for years
Kawai Load-Management even defeated GSW. Just have to be lucky enough to have opponents 2 best players to be out.
It will only work if the share responsibility equally.
I need tatum to develop a post game asap man when he is being guarded by these smaller players I rarely see him abuse those mismatches like lebron kawhi butler these big fowards
Tatum needs to spend the summer working with or studying Kevin mchale and Kevin Garnett, he definitely needs a post game to fall back on when his threes aren’t falling.
I LOVE JASON TATUM he is a class act. They may not have won this one however their accomplishment speaks for themselves they still can do it!!
He’s cheeks can’t win a big game
@@jed3177 oh my recency bias... game 7 against Philly was two weeks ago
It’s always about the Celtics and the reason for their loss. It’s never about the Miami and how good of a team they are.
As a heat fan regardless if we win the chip this been a crazy turn around of a szn. All szn we just wanted them to show effort and when they did we won the east
Just because they didnt make it to the finals dont mean something is wrong with the players. I think they need a coach who is strong enough to lead them. I think that team is missing their old coaches leadership. They made it further than most other teams. Nothings wrong with them and they dont have to win everything to be relevant.
no post no consistent half court offense.
@@Gnofg all that and they still better than most.
@@Gnofg Wrong, they need to go out and find a real guard. Smart is good but he ain’t a PG he’s more of a two guard.
@@QRobNYC Smart is so slow that he can’t drive. He is the Tyler Hansborough of guards.
What a post does it allows for off ball play.
I can not believe that Williams never created any moves. Teams that have no post have the same problem. Look no further than the Atlanta Hawks.
The post is the best passing position.
I think the coach is good. First year and he almost crawled them out of a 3-0 hole. but he needs some offensive minded assistants so they dont look so stale and predictable on offense. To me it looks like tatum and brown get motivated to play the usual good defense when the offense is rolling. And they need a pg i think smart became the defacto pg when they traded all their other ones. Smarts still the heart and soul tho
Tatum and Brown are going through what D-Wade and LeBron went through in Miami in 2011. D-Wade and LeBron were both 1A and they didn't flow offensively because of it and didn't maximize each other to their full capabilities. D-Wade went to LeBron the following year and told him that he would take a beat seat to LeBron and that LeBron is the best player on the team. The offense had to run through LeBron...I still think Jaylen Brown is better than Tatum... but one of them is going to have to take a backset to the other and accept it 💯if this going to work. Fact💯.
Jb can’t dribble like Tatum
No. They’ve had way more time vs when LeBron and Wade had the conflict the first year. Its been 5 seasons. Its over.
Also reminds me of Vice Carter and T-Mac situation, when T-Mac ended up leaving cause he felt he was playing behind vince shadow
The difference is Wade was a champion and superstar and Tatum is just light skinned and a shot jacking star not superstar who hasn't proved anything yet other than bad 3s and a texterizer and Brown is raw sewage and a turnover machine. Neither Brown nor Tatum has proved anything in almost a decade in the NBA other than stat padding in the regular season and folding in the playoffs. 1-4 in the ECFS. They both are frauds
the media is doing that for them since day one. Media elected JT as number one and to be honest they are virtually identical. JT has better handles at this point but JB can work on that this off season.
The tension when they brought up the nuggets going under the radar 📡 10:25
I think Celtics need more developing for every player. This year Celtics was mostly about offense and got away from what worked mostly last year was defense they only started picking up defense in the playoffs . I think they need more time to work on things and make no major changes this is there coach first year and honestly he did pretty good considering what he was up against. Now whether Brown need a max contact i don't think he there yet. But might have to bite the bullet and give it to him. I hope he works on a few things if he going to get that money we need him to be that one two punch.
No way Brown is worth the max. He is raw sewage and plays remedial in big moments and on top of that Tatum is soft as butter. Its time to blow up this team. They keep talking about the 5 eastern conference championships however they are 1-4! Its over they've had 3 different coaches and they are guaranteed to fold in the clutch. Im tired of Jaylen Brown looking remedial after jacking up a terrible shot or turning the ball over and im tired of Tatum finding a way to play as light skinned as possible in big games. Both can go and im not sure both are much better than Brandon Ingram idc about the accolades my eyes say Brandon Ingram is on the same level and I definitely wouldn't pay autistic Jaylen Brown 60 million a year after folding to an 8th seed at home. He was mediocre with the box haircut and he's just as mediocre after the haircut. Both can go. I'd try to get CJ MCCOLLUM, Ingram or Zion for half of what Brown wants. Id easily take Cj and Ingram for Brown and a pick. This is the Washington Wizards 2.0 the last decade or a half pick the era. Either you pick the John Wall 🧱 Bradley Beal era or the Gilbert Arenas, Antwan Jamison/Larry Hughes era, this team is those teams at best with the addition of Marcus " Not So Smart". This team is walking turnover from top down. I think any star alongside Tatum maybe Lillard or maybe a combo somehow of maybe Brandon Ingram and McCollum or just maybe KD and Tatum is enough
Grant Williams is going to have to replace Horford in the starting lineup. And maybe even replace Smart with Malcolm too at PG
They need a grit guy as well!
This team has such a high ceiling but also such a low low floor… massive ups and downs
JT on a pick n roll/pick n pop look.....
I like where JJ is going with this
Love JJ’s SEG after he asked if not talking about Denver was SAS’s fault. 😂😂
JJ is too good for these guys
we wouldn't be having this conversation if Ime was there.... but Shot out to the heat💯💯
Need more balance inside and out. Too much 3 point shooting.
Those guys need a slid group of veterans who provide toughness, grit, and experience to the mold
Video headline is wrong!! JJ said "group" not specifically "Brown and Tatum". Clickbait!!!
they need a 3rd piece , like a lonzo ball , ingram , mcollum someone of that caliber
They need a big that can actually find the paint
