"The Battle of Falkirk Muir" - Scottish Jacobite Song

"The Battle of Falkirk Muir" is a satirical Jacobite song that mocks General Henry Hawley of the British Government Army. The battle itself was the last major Jacobite victory in the 1745 Rebellion, though it had little impact on the overall campaign. Based on the musical notations found in 'Jacobite Relics', the song was intended to be sung to the tune of "Up and Waur Them A', Willie". However, Battlefield Band took several liberties with the song's metre, while the lyrics remain largely faithful to the original. They first appeared in James Hogg's 'Jacobite Relics' (1817), and scholars such as Franklyn Bliss Snyder have noted that they were "surely retrospective, and possibly Hogg's own work".
