As a beef producer I am so glad to have recently found Temple Grandin. I have always managed my cattle in a calm way and done my best to give them the best life they can. It heartens me to find this video on an Australian Beef production account. The industry definitely needs to lose the macho cowboy cruel image. It is an image perpetuated iften by people not in the industry mostly but there are if course some bad operators out there, but I believe they are the minority. Anyone who is not treating animals well should leave the industry . I have bought in replacement cows that have obviously been mistreated, they are scared of motorbikes , stressed and dangerous in yards. It takes a couple of years of careful handling to calm them but it can be done. I am so upset that this happens. Too many yahoos out there. The industry needs more women

That's fantastic. I noticed with horses something similar. Quietly positioning yourself in the right place can be a powerful tool.

That race is quiet a radical design, only someone with a mind like hers could come up with it

Why doesn’t the rattling metal sounds bother/scare them?

They aren't sure if the fact loose chains flapping and clanging in the wind definitely will make cattle balk is from vision or sound. They are attuned to anything that flaps, even clothing. If it's a consistent background noise and they aren't otherwise stressed by having visual balking cues, they might get more used to it.
Also, I do think that an additive stress model might exist --- if the total reduction in stress levels from her methods helps cattle handle routine plant sounds better.
I have raised, named, and eaten meat. We tried to give them the best lives they could have, and honor their sacrifice by both humane slaughter and by remembering the true cost of meat and the obligation of man to domesticated species to not just wait until demand drops, but help animals raised for food experience less stress and pain in the now.
      Thank you, Temple.
