This concert is from the 80s. The song is from the 60s. This is John's arrangement of the Beatle's "Help". The original was more upbeat/60s pop. Farnsey is an Aussie legend who is universally loved both as a singer and for just being an outstanding human being. He's been going for half a century so plenty more to get through. Wherever possible, watch him live.
John Farnham is an Australian singer, an icon to all of us. This particular concert was in 1989. Help is John's version of the wonderful Beatles song from the 60s. John first released this in the late 70s. John is now 73 years of age and until quite recently still had those world beating pipes. He has been unwell recently but is recovering. Just BTW, it's pronounced FARN-M
Welcome to the world of John Farnham aka THE VOICE. One of the best vocalists and performers ever. He didn't stray too often out of Australia which is why he was not all that well known around the world back when he was in his prime. But he was HUGE in Australia and still is at 73yo.
He first recorded his cover of this Beatles classic back in 1980 with his own arrangement, and he really made it his own. This performance with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Orchestras was in 1989.

Awarded King of pop five times, Australian of the year and National living treasure, John had hits in every decade from the 1960's. Sadly he has recently had part of his jaw removed because of mouth cancer. He never did much outside Australia, preferring to stay in Australia. Get well soon, John.

This concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra called Classic Jack is from 1989. This is John's version of The Beatles classic song Help, which he first released in 1980; this song was written by John Lennon of The Beatles, which was released as a pop song in 1965.
Well you have seen him do a cover of a song from the mid 1960's, now you need to see him perform a 1986 song that was written for him to really show what his voice can do and why he is called "The Voice". John has a vocal range that blows peoples minds.
The song "You're The Voice" from that same concert is the version you need to listen to next.
He also performs a cover of an AC/CD song "Its a long way to the top" which was also performed at that concert.
There are many other songs which John. Burn for you and Pressure Down.
All that and this song was at the end of a 3 hour concert. Farnsey is the best.. Get well soon mate. We are all cheering for you....

There is a sound only track of John doing a warmup sound check using black dog. You got to hear that….
Always see John live. He is always good but his on stage is something else, particularly this concert. With the MSOrchestra.
There is a 3 part utube called John Farnham can sing anything. You might enjoy that it gives a snippet of every style. Over many years. I saw him in the early eighties and many times up until 2018 I think. Always gave 110% . We wish him well in his recovery from cancer. If he never sings again we have a treasure trove of songs we can dive into at any time.

That was John showing the Beatles how their song should have been sung. Richard Marx says, John has the best voice of anyone alive. I agree with that but we didn’t share him with the world. Everyone is sharing him now on UA-cam and he deserves to be heard.

This song came out in early 1980..... and John Lennon of the Beatles (the original song) actually came out and said that this was how HE had wanted to perfom the song but their record label/managers made them do an 'upbeat' version.... Unfortunately John Lennon was murdered later that year in December.... but he got to hear this before he died.....just a bit of trivia for you......

As other commentors have said.... welcome to the Australian music rabbit hole...... you'll be blown away by our artists..... you LITERALLY will not make it in Australia unless you can actually sing live or play live (instrumental)..... it's probably why so many International artists don't come here.... they'd get booed off stage lmao......
