I have the 1.0 Rush 24 and agree.....its not for tall hiking guys ...but for a day hike , it is fine.

Great video. Great point about the multi-day without waist belt but I was under the assumption that the 24 was just a 24hr bag and the 72 was the 3 day bag with the waist belt. The pack looks a little short for a waist belt.

I believe you’re correct on all points. I think the idea I was approaching it from was an idea of cost and multi-usefulness. Bags are expensive and this bag is plenty large enough to be multi day for the well prepared and knowledgeable hiker. So only having one bag that can serve multiple purposes is desirable. It’s been a bit since I published this, but at the time there was talk in forums and the like about using this bad for multiple days by adding a waist strap and I was also intending to address that specifically.

I appreciate this video so much. My needs for this bag are not for hiking so I hearing this is still a big good because I love knowing this going into it. This is more of a conceal tactical and daily carry work bag for me. Thank you for this type of review. This is the one I was looking for. In depth and to the point and the right points. Thank you Sir.

Good review. It depends how heavy you are. If you are 10 to 15 pounds you don't need a hip belt. If you start getting higher than that a hip belt is nice. The difference between a bugout bag and a hiking pack is durability. You might need to run with a bug out bag. You may need to roll on the ground like a soldier. This is why it is more difficult to find a bugout bag than a hiking pack. A bugout bag should be about 25 liters in size so you can carry a tarp and warm weather gear. You should also be able to carry a handgun either 22 pistol or 9mm. If you have a family I would choose small hiking packs for wife and children while the guy carries a heavier tactical pack. Main reason to have a bugout bag is nuclear war and currency collapse or if you are near ocean hurricane. All other situations require bugging in not out.

Great review! Thanks for that. What bag would you recommend that does have a good hip belt? I'm older and I think the lack of a hip belt is a deal breaker. Sigh.

LOL. Honestly I don’t know. I wish I could help but I haven’t any experience with any others at the moment. The only advice I could offer is don’t skimp on it. I would look at the major pack brands available for multi day hikes, like osprey, north face, etc. I think a reasonable price point for a good bag would be between 80-120$. I would try to shop in an outdoor-dedicated store/outfitter who can help you fit the pack to your body properly and help you find the right one for you.
As far as size, buy with consideration to your purpose. If it’s JUST for a 24 hour search bag, it doesn’t need to be huge. If you’ll use it dual purpose for multi day hikes as well, it will need to be bigger. My advice is buy the SMALLEST bag you can that will accommodate your purpose for it. The smaller it is, the lighter it is, the less bulky/wonky it is on your body, etc etc

Good information about the hip belt. I was going to get the hip belt but now I think it’s a waste of money if it doesn’t ride on my hips. I would just be adding more weight to the bag.

I tend to agree, it’s not necessarily a multi day pack.. but still an incredibly strong and effective pack. I bought the rush 24 2.0 and the first time I took it out was hunting elk. It did haul out an elk hind fine. I will probably get an after market “hip belt”. Knowing this is an assault style military pack not a multi day…. I’m around 6’ 2 I like the sternum strap a little lower. So I lowered it.
I make outdoor videos on my channel feel free to check me out and Subscribe thanks for the help!

It is a great pack and incredibly well built. It serves my purposes as a 24-48 hour turnout pack for search and rescue perfectly. We tend to only search in in 8-12 hour shifts so it’s not on body constantly and all the Mille is great for attaching different things of need like carabiners, radios premade prussicks etc.
I’m still looking into buying another pack for multi day hikes that’s specifically built for extended carries
Sometimes there just isnt one answer for all applications no matter how much I want there to be LOL
