This 100% captures why I was terrified of stop motion animation as a kid even though I'm pretty sure this is CGI. The lighting, tones, textures, and snappy animation with the follow-through is perfect
It is CGI, as difficult to tell as it might be. If you need evidence (and it doesn't break the experience to you) Look at NEO's strings, mainly on the right - they clip through the wing. Although if not for that one itty bitty thing, I woupd never be able to tell from looks alone.
@@Box-O-Soldier Also in his original shop form, you can see the chin clip into the chest when his mouth opens really wide, and the brick walls/vines also look pretty CGI to me. But overall the textures are super well done, especially on the wings, and the animation really sells the stop motion style.
With Spamton having become such a memelord, it's easy to forget that Spamton NEO is geniunely terrifying. Thanks for making this amazing animation to remind us of that
1:49 his head spinning after getting hit, and them him having to grab it to make it stop is such an in-character gag, im surprised that isnt in the in-game cutscene lol
The detail of the strings being able to clip through him, and the way they feel differently animated than he does, really adds to how they're not of this world. Those strings have probably been there the whole time... he's only [[BIG]] enough to see them now, and being able to see them is somehow worse than before, when he could only suspect they were there. It's simultaneously confirmation of his worst fears and a disappointment that he's so far failed to actually be free. It's glorious.
That was as fantastic as I hoped it’d be - I loved how forceful a lot of his movements were, and the set design and lighting went above and beyond! I can’t thank you enough for making something so cool out of my voice - can’t wait to see what you do next!
Hey man, I wanted to thank you for just having an amazing voice! Your voice has been my head canon voice for Spamton ever since I first heard it, was in love instantly! Nothing else sounds just right.
These wouldn't be here without you Alex. I hope to see Your name In many works one day. It'll be a bit before I revisit Spamton again, but when I do.. You'll know. ❤️
Why is 1:54 so unironically badass? I actually wish that ending scene went on a little bit longer. That was so spine chilling awesome, I actually felt ready for a fight after those stage lights dropped, with the song amping up in the background. This the type of thing that calls for an entire fight scene now.
it isnt terrifying what are you talking about please, is the whole internet ganging up on a comedic character calling him scary or terrifying when he is in fact not? fo fucks sake this whole comment section getting hallucinations i dont see anything terrifying in this
@@markfaites The reason Spamton's terrifying is that he's desperate. He's comedic on a surface level, but he's a character who had it all only for it to not just be gone, but to have his life plunge far lower than before. He constantly talks like he's making a deal because he has no other methods to his name. When he looks at Kris in this animation, his desperation is on full display. Kris has something that Spamton doesn't and he wants it. He talks like he wants to partner up with Kris, but the subsequent fight implies otherwise. He WILL have this Soul. This isn't just a theory either, it's all in Deltarune proper through dialogue with Spamton himself or by other characters who talk about him.
God, this does a really incredible job at depicting just how menacing Spamton NEO's debut is, even if he does look like the result of 6 different failed MS Paint projects being fused into one in-game Phenomenal work with this animation, gotta say!
He's a low-budget take on your everyday optional JRPG superboss, it's great. "Scrapped MS Paint File Chimera" is probably the most accurate way I've ever heard the look described. I mean, Spamton likes good deals, and the suit still works well... so good call?
I can't stop watching this. The animation and irregular moviements are so GOOD. It really breathes life into him as a whole character perfectly. The sudden close-ups "[[PERSONAL SPACE]] WHAT'S THAT?" is just *chefs kiss*
Honestly, it looks a lot like claymation, but it's really fluid, if this was claymation there'd have to be thousands of pictures taken of at least a few different modles in hundreds of different positions in order to get this fluid,
The part starting at 1:54 just gives me goosebumps every time I watch this! The music, the dialogue, the atmosphere, everything comes together perfectly!
I feel like not enough people point this out: Every time Spamton speaks in brackets in his NEO form, he sounds a lot less computerized, and furthermore, he talks in his own voice. This implies, in my opinion, that he is growing more independent from a part of himself, perhaps one that made him go mad in the first place.
I know im late, but my theory is he loses the brackets whenever he's calm, which would explain why he stops using them until you make him angry by having a full inventory.
Can I just add, I don't think enough people mention the fact that when Spamton says "I need *_Y O U_* ", the lens has a single frame with Rick Astley, referencing "Never Gonna Give You Up", and I can't begin to explain how clever that is.
@@MrTrollman5 Well it's not like I've got much better to do nowadays than hang out and vibe on my computer. Also it can be pretty easily missed, so I figured it was a pretty neat little piece of info.
The hearts in his eyes when he says "you" and how he says "with me" and refers to how both of you will reach past the darkness, combined with how you're both puppets more or less makes me think he genuinely thinks he is your buddy trying to make a go of it with you, not just victimize you. He even says in the fight if you want to be just a heart on a chain.
And the wings really have that felt-like texture to them, too! the animation goes as far as possible into exploring the aesthetics offered by this freaky conman ventriloquist and it's GREAT!
It actually does! It would be amazing a park made a Spamton Neo rollercoaster. The first scene is what we see after entering a room that soon leads to the ride, and this was the opening shortly before the ride starts.
I’m thinking of that Buzz Lightyear ride where you shoot stuff at aliens (or something like that), except the aliens are the mini blue Spamtons (or just Spamton himself), and you shoot them with the Yellow Soul If we can’t get an actual ride, i would want a VR version of the Spamton NEO fight.
Reminds me a lot of the Escape from Gringotts ride at Orlando Universal, an indoor half-simulated ride with lots of references to the original material. Could definitely be an absolute blast.
1:12 was absolutely terrifying, the way he realizes he needs your soul to complete his dream and then he looks at you and says "Kris" then snaps forward is bone chilling, I love it 1:52 then at this part where the music starts and he's about to engage in combat with you while bright lights shine behind him is so epic!
Mhm! And even then in-game it's like in his broken mind he doesn't even realize he's betraying Kris, not even understanding this will kill him. Stating lines like how they will both be a big shot, how he will give Kris everything he has if Kris gives him his soul, how it will stop them both from being a "heart on a chain" Spamton's such an interesting character, I think! And this animation just makes this fight even better! :)
I can't even handle how well animated this is. The lighting, the model, the texture, the weight and movement of the character and the strings!? Wild. Someone needs to offer Hobo a job right now
Genuinely the modeling is good enough that he looks like a genuine puppet. I wouldn’t have been surprised if there was a behind the scenes that showed the puppet
I felt something was weird with the lighting although that's mostly because it's so dark I can barely see the wings without increasing my own brightness. Apart from that the choreography and voice were perfect
@@leedlelel2373 I think that's the idea. The strings are supposed to be a glimpse into an aspect of their reality that isn't easy for the characters to comprehend. This can be conveyed through animating the strings to almost seem like they're not properly interacting with whats on screen
1:02 I can't oversell this enough. It's just that little difference seeing everything rendered in 3D with voice acting. The way his manic excitement dwindles back down into confused frustration as he realizes how bound he still is, "or... so I thought..." the way he thrashes about as he realizes his master plan still wasn't good enough to achieve true freedom- "WHAT ARE THESE STRINGS!?" The voice acting just adds such a beautiful, personal layer to the text. It's all so emotional. Spamton is on a complete roller coaster of emotion all his own, and every bit of animation and VA just works _so beautifully_ to display it. This is marvelous work, from all contributors.
This is exactly how I imagine Spamton to sound like. Like in his Neo form, his corupted data is slightly restored, and he's able to speak more clearly. And of cource I love how expressive and well made this animation is. Phenomenal work!
Not many people are talking about that the point of view throughout the animation is Kris's. The scale of your size compared to Spamton Neo's just shows how horrifying it was if we were put in that situation. Looking back on the scale of a regular-size salesman Spamton gives a kinda vibe that he is weird, but not very threatening. But now he became a mechanical monstrosity by our own choice, proclaiming that he will take our life to escape his delusions. No wonder Kris was screaming when Ralsei checked up on him. Any child that faces such a traumatic experience, I will not be surprised if Kris were to react negatively to any reminders of said experience.
This is so fucking good. The way spamton moves is very robotic and sudden but there's still little movements like the strings connected to him which aren't like that and the way he moves like he's swinging with them. The way his eyes say "you
I think my favorite parts about this are how NEO's hair actually looks filthy (you know, considering it's been left to rot in a basement for who knows how long), and how Spamton looks off to the side when he says "find it". Like he's already thinking about how he's about to become a [BIG SHOT].
This is the perfect example of the Uncanny Valley effect in a marionette, especially right towards the end when your Spamton “jitters” in an inhuman manner. Terrifying to look at at first, but with a bit of practice, one can see right through it…
I had this INSANELY unrealistic (but admittedly cool) idea that the whole spamton neo fight would make for such a [BIG] universal studio-like ride, with the [SPECIL] effects, small enough plot, [BIG] stakes and all. I know it's ambitious as all hell but goddamnit, your rendition of spamton's monologue and the motions as the roller-coaster starts moving gave me chills down to my spine. It was a fraction of that dream come true and only made me want it more.
I love how you portrayed Spamton NEO in this. It perfectly showed off both how comedic and horrifying he can be. I’d also love to hear a full version of the remix in this!!
0:53 I love the quiet clacking sounds when Spamton jerks around, reflective of a marionette's limbs and joints hitting together! It's such a tiny detail but it really helps sell the ambience.
The way he says “So big we’ll stand up tall and see past the dark, stand with our heads in the clouds and look at you… [Heaven]” is so powerful and epic, like Spamton just met his awakening
I'm almost disappointed we didn't get a fight scene, the build-up to one was palpable! Animation was incredibly stellar, can't wait to see what'cha cookup next ^^
I love so much how akward Spamton looks on his NEO form, the lighting, textures, all of it combines to make it look like a real phisical marionette, it is so cool! You did such an amazing job at this animation!
I honestly get goosebumps when he says “It’s time to make a very specil deal.” It’s so well done, legitimately a badass scene that’s so professionally animated.
That little bit of swaying you added at 1:02, it was so utterly unnecessary yet you added it and the whole thing felt just much more real in general. What a great animator that you are, keep it up!
I think the most impressive thing about this animation is how you still perfectly captured the transition from creepy cut scene to climatic boss fight in a completely different medium. In the game, you get the excitement of the rolling carts coming back, the battle HUD showing up, and the "It's time to be a BIG SHOT!" text hitting you all close together. Those elements combine to create this instant feeling of awe the first time you see them, and are part of the reason Spamton Neo is one of my favorite boss fights in video games. Your animation has none of those things; it instead has a remix kick in, the camera shake, the walls vanish, the background elements pop up, and a huge increase of volume right as the credits hit. So it's amazing to me that you did your own thing and still recreated that feeling of awe from the original. Incredible!!
This is legitimately-and I’m not trying to overplay this-Pixar level of quality. The animation is so well done. There’s so much care and detail into his mannerisms. It feels like I’m watching a scene from a AAA movie. Incredible work. Honestly one of the best animations I’ve seen on UA-cam, PERIOD.
I think I can finally settle with that voice for Spamton, it's funny how the community struggles to find the right voice for Spamton and everyone has their own rendition, this one for me hits it home, great job.
Wow, the guy that voiced Caine from The Amazing Digital Circus voiced SPAMTON in this animation two years before? Looks like he just has a thing for voicing short, chaotic, digital men
The goofy feeling of the spamton neo model and voice, the snappy movements, and even the shaking of the strings after he moves. This perfectly represents spamton and its so goofy but utterly terrifying at the same time. It's crazy how you're able to give Spamton the cartoony expressions like the over-the-top poses and movements and put that in a creepy detailed model with such good lighting
The movements look just like a little puppet on those strings. Especially when he says "WHAT ARE THESE STRINGS!" and just jolts around. Also, it's so goddamn terrifying when he stared right at you with those eyes. This shows how huge Spamton NEO actually is compared to Kris.
I know, right? Like, I can't get over the (leg drop? Is that the term?) when he realizes he needs Kris's soul! Like... It brought me _hard_ into some of the Barnaby Dixon puppets/moves and even if that's because I don't know this style of puppetry and just don't have any stronger connections, it still feels _so_ cool
Playing Deltarune, I could understand why Kris was so freaked out by Spamton on a philosophical level (as in, Spamton being the embodiment of his fear of not having any control over his life). Seeing this, I now understand why he was afraid of him in general. These Spamton animations are some real good shit, I tell you. He's a funny, quirky, and tragic little guy, sure. But he's also creepy as hell, and you really did a good job at capturing those "crazy back alley meth addict" vibes of his.
@@genericstarwarsfan9190 Anyone who gets upset over pronouns being corrected for a fictional character is going to get upset over pronouns being corrected for a real person. Kris is still they/them, not it btw.
Hey, funny little thing I noticed. Every character in the game has their reason for attacking the player. In original undertale, it was to steal your soul to break the barrier(with a few exceptions like papyrus), but in deltarune, soul absorption is completely unspoken off. Even characters who could realistically have a motive to absorb your soul, such as the chaos king don’t mention, more or less treating you like an intruder. This means soul succession might not be known as a thing that can happen. However, there is a single character who seems to somehow not only know what soul absorption is, but is able to piece together that with Kris’ soul, he could become strong enough to break his strings. That’s right, our good buddy Spamton knows something no one else does, as he is the only one to ever directly talk about absorbing Kris’ soul, and the whole motive of the fight is to steal it so he can see heaven. Makes you wonder, is Spamton the only one who knows about the concept? Maybe that’s why Kris was so scared, soul absorption makes sense to us as players, we’ve seen both omega flowey and asriel do it, but maybe in the Deltarune universe, it was never discovered. Also, Kris was the only person to hear Spamton talk about souls absorption, and from what we’ve seen, he isn’t keen on telling anyone. Now the question remains, how exactly did Spamton learn about soul absorption?
Just imagine a full 3d action rpg that somehow implemented pacifist undertale/deltarune combat mechanics. If Monster Hunter can properly make a turn based pokemon like game feel just like the combat of the original, i think it's possible to make undertale have final fantasy vii remake like combat
With this level of quality, as well as being able to pull off a "handcrafted/craftwork" style, I would LOVE to see a Dynamite Headdy game with HH as the artist.
Something I've always gotten mixed up on is thinking the line was "I JUST NEED... THAT LITTLE [[SOUL]] OF YOURS", and even if it's a small difference, I honestly think it adds that tiny bit of extra detail to fit with his character that he says "THAT LITTLE [[SOUL]] YOU HAVE" As if he doesn't think of it as belonging to you, but rather some important object you happen to hold. It really fits the character in my opinion, and shows just the amount of detail Toby put into this character. Both the voice actor and animator really did Spamton justice, fantastic work ^^
@@kalenipclaw5683 well, that makes it even creepier that Spamton knows this without having supposedly seen it And by creepy, I mean in the best way possible
Permanent irises gave him that goofy vibe, either intentional or not. With blank glasses he would have looked much more menacing. Good job with saving that bit of him well, without going 100% nightmare.
Honestly, it's not that 3D animation is soulless by itself. Like here, it's about having a clear image and motif and applying that into the movement. Every action NEO has feels jittery and full of weight. There's a lot of CG that feels floaty because of the lack of weight and direction.
@@kylestubbs8867 I think part of that was that Kris knows they're a vessel for our will, unable to take action without us. They're a puppet for something they don't understand, and Spamton is that concept made obvious. There's an idea that the reason Susie and Ralsei get so shocked with Kris admitting it freaked them out was because Kris got to actually express themselves and yelled it, since they figured we wouldn't let them say it bothered them and tried to struggle to do so.
Just saw The Amazing digital circus this morning, and I knew the voice sounded so familiar. Caine is Spamton, I thought, and low and behold, IT WAS ALEX.
The best things about this are how the strings just kinda go with his movements, and also- you can hear the parts clink against eachother as he moves, it's amazing.
Gotta admit, the custom Big Shot at the end sold it. I especially like how Spamton went from looking like an uncanny puppet to an action figure-like puppet. Just the entire way he was animated like that made me feel unnerved- But when I heard the custom big shot kick in, I felt that excitement pump up- that feeling of "Oh. I'm in danger!" shot right into me. Lovely job.
The Big Shot cover at the end is hands down the best I've ever heard. The solo rhythm guitar that builds is perfect. Too many covers just start with the hit instantaneously instead of letting the tension and intimidation of the track really build, even just for a few seconds.
I love how Cain’s voice actor was originally a Spamton voice actor for a lot of channels, I think it’s fitting because they both can be boil down to insane glitching code
Favorite line has to be when he finally feels free but then sees the strings "I won't have to be a puppet anymore! Or so I thought...WHAT ARE THESE STRINGS?!" You can really hear the anger in his voice and I love the shaking while not moving from the original pose. Excellent work Hobo
Well, Kris seems almost impossible to intimidate considering they didn't hesitate to stand up to King, and they have some sort of weird would-be friendship with Spamton that would make them feel a bit less threatened. It's more about what Spamton said TO them
@@uncroppedsoop I personally feel Kris would've been creeped from the start; NEO blasted that fear up tenfold. Plus, yeah. SPAMTON more or less is in the same situation Kris is: feeling helpless; feeling as if they have no control anymore; feeling like a puppet to some higher force... The thought is just horrifying to consider.
@@bababooey5402 pretty sure the whole reason they were implied to be uncomfy from the start (like backing up away from him in the alleyway) was the shit he would say
I love how you really brought out how the Spamton NEO fight is a thematic remix of the Mettaton NEO fight, complete with faux-stage effects, but with an added horror element brought on by how _clearly_ unstable Spamton is
Im so blown away by the character acting of his gestures and reactions, and the deliberate rigid feel with the strings looks SO GOOD excited as always to see more from you, this is fantastic!
The attention to detail here I just...wow. I love that he doesn't notice the strings until he actually looks up at them. The way he shakes himself like he's trying to break them. That damn look he gives right before he realized he needs Kris' soul, that in particular is such an unsettling moment. And of course, him pulling out his gun while laughing maniacally. Easily the creepiest depiction of this scene I've come across.
HOLY SHIT this was honestly the most amazing work of art i've ever seen in capturing a specific moment in a 2D video game? not only did you capture the emotion of the protagonist by putting us in that first person, but you gave just the right audio cues and intimidating volume of Spamton to hone in the fear. The direct match of the sprite animations is just spot on, as well as the puppet-like movement. The music coming in right as the animation background starts moving is more than perfect. And the remix is kick-ass. This is not only a fan work, this feels truly cinematic. I keep watching this for inspiration as I work on my webcomic and other art. It gives me chills!
The animation is INSANELY good! Like Dreamworks/Disney/Pixar should hire you because it’s insanely good. The way you moved Spamton to make him look like a puppet is incredible. Just in general just amazing animation.
The framing of the NEO scene gives me serious '3D theatre ride at a theme park' vibes, like the second Kris gets knocked back the chair you're on would shudder, or would rumble once the carts start moving. Very good work!
The whole falling from the ceiling part was absolutely creepy, from the sudden jump to the eye lighting up slowly, then the flash to reveal Spamton Neo. Absolutely amazing animation, hope to see more from you.
This is just amazing, the animation is smooth, the voice lines are perfect, also is reaction to seeing the strings it felt like he really was desperate for being free
the way you structured the spamton neo cutscene makes it look like the perfect start to a simulated motion based ride in universal. you did a great job!
This is seriously some top-notch animation, saying it's phenomenal is an understatement. This oozes personality and horror; the jerky movements, the eyes, the roughness of Spamton's model, all of it is just 👌👌👌 magnificent.
Holy shit this is amazing When spamton is talking about his neo form before seeing the strings and he’s moving around you can hear what sounds like plastic lightly tapping other bits of plastic, really going with the puppet theme here, it really works well Amazing animation, voice acting, and sound design man

please, is the whole internet ganging up on a comedic character calling him scary or terrifying when he is in fact not? fo fucks sake this whole comment section getting hallucinations i dont see anything terrifying in this
@@markfaites The reason Spamton's terrifying is that he's desperate.

It really would first into a 3D version of deltarune
I feel like not enough people point this out:
Every time Spamton speaks in brackets in his NEO form, he sounds a lot less computerized, and furthermore, he talks in his own voice.
This implies, in my opinion, that he is growing more independent from a part of himself, perhaps one that made him go mad in the first place.
Nice detail.
@Hooty HOOT HOOT well he still have them. You can see them if you have full inventory
@Hooty HOOT HOOT yeah , when you encounter spamton neo for the first time he only uses one bracket instead of two

Oh my god, that’s what was reflected in his glasses. You’ve gotta be kidding me, that’s genius.
Maybe Kris wanted to take the deal, I mean, kris didn't even pull out their sword/shield to defend themselves.
Heart on a chain refers to the attack he does just after, litteraly a heart on a chain
I love how your version has his entire body being made of wood, to not mention the movements that feel very puppet-like!
And the wings really have that felt-like texture to them, too! the animation goes as far as possible into exploring the aesthetics offered by this freaky conman ventriloquist and it's GREAT!

Wood, cardboard, Duct-Tape, and paint
I dont know if anyone has said this, but this feels like the opening cinematic to a really cool rollercoaster.
It actually does! It would be amazing a park made a Spamton Neo rollercoaster. The first scene is what we see after entering a room that soon leads to the ride, and this was the opening shortly before the ride starts.
I’m thinking of that Buzz Lightyear ride where you shoot stuff at aliens (or something like that), except the aliens are the mini blue Spamtons (or just Spamton himself), and you shoot them with the Yellow Soul
If we can’t get an actual ride, i would want a VR version of the Spamton NEO fight.
We need this made
Reminds me a lot of the Escape from Gringotts ride at Orlando Universal, an indoor half-simulated ride with lots of references to the original material. Could definitely be an absolute blast.
Someone needs to build this immediately. Bonus points if it’s 3D/4D.
1:12 was absolutely terrifying, the way he realizes he needs your soul to complete his dream and then he looks at you and says "Kris" then snaps forward is bone chilling, I love it
1:52 then at this part where the music starts and he's about to engage in combat with you while bright lights shine behind him is so epic!
@starecrown2614 auto correct "him"
The way his pitch-black eyes stare into your soul is just downright disturbing.
i just imagine the AU that whole Deltarune is 3D platformer game
I love it because it's like Spamtom didn't even consider betraying Kris until he realised a Soul was what he needed.
Mhm!
And even then in-game it's like in his broken mind he doesn't even realize he's betraying Kris, not even understanding this will kill him.
Stating lines like how they will both be a big shot, how he will give Kris everything he has if Kris gives him his soul, how it will stop them both from being a "heart on a chain"

@@borby4584 tbh a version of this that uses an actual physical puppet/stop motion would be really cool, and very fitting.
The way his manic excitement dwindles back down into confused frustration as he realizes how bound he still is,
"or... so I thought..."
the way he thrashes about as he realizes his master plan still wasn't good enough to achieve true freedom-

This is actually really intriguing
Probably from Mike though
I kinda want to see a legit game with cutscenes and graphics like this, it's just so stylized that it mesmerizing to watch
THAT LITTLE [[SOUL]] OF YOURS", and even if it's a small difference, I honestly think it adds that tiny bit of extra detail to fit with his character that he says "THAT LITTLE [[SOUL]] YOU HAVE"
As if he doesn't think of it as belonging to you, but rather some important object you happen to hold. It really fits the character in my opinion, and shows just the amount of detail Toby put into this character. Both the voice actor and animator really did Spamton justice, fantastic work ^^

Someone hire this man for game development I haven't scene a cutscene that sets the mood of the fight for awhile. and he did it himself
THIS ANIMATION IS SO GOOD! YOU ARE A very big shot!!!
I know right? Very big shot animation.
This is seriously some top-notch animation, saying it's phenomenal is an understatement. This oozes personality and horror; the jerky movements, the eyes, the roughness of Spamton's model, all of it is just 👌👌👌 magnificent.
The way he says “see past the dark” gives me chills, this entire video is done so well.
Holy shit this is amazing
When spamton is talking about his neo form before seeing the strings and he’s moving around you can hear what sounds like plastic lightly tapping other bits of plastic, really going with the puppet theme here, it really works well
Amazing animation, voice acting, and sound design man
This legitimately looks like it is made out of clay and I love it.
