I’m a returning 1st Dan after 13 years and this video is helping so much! Everything is so familiar but so distant, like when someone hums a song and you recognise it but can’t remember the title or lyrics! Love the lessons but naturally 1 Sensei and 8 of us proves difficult to learn all the Kata I need. Thank you!
He's a brilliant sensei and been teaching me for 2 years now
Didn't think I'd get this far
This is an excellent tutorial on Bassai Dai. Thanks very much Sensei Paul James 🙂
As usual, very detailed tips on the finer points are taught, so you learn to do the kata correctly where you don't just do a "form", but also learn proper body movement/alignment and how to maximise power.
Great detail - great explanation (a bit distracting having the lesson going on In the background). Overall really helpful.
Many thanks! Great commentary. Good job!
Really helpful video, thank you!!
Sensei, you are my favorite for explanations and great form demonstrations. I'm just getting back into Karate after many years away. It's always good to see a busy dojo, but maybe your students could participate in the kata or be less distracting....sorry!
Would love to see a video on Kankudai, Enpi and Jion as well.
Perfeito! Uma aula espetacular! Oss!
helped for black belt grading
This is sorta different from the version I was taught, but still helped
Look very closely at the very first technique in the kata then look at the explanation....What's wrong
I done shotokan years ago and watched numerous kumites in real life and on UA-cam and can not once remember seeing any Kata movements used in a kumite.
Likewise, I have never used a "kumite technique" to restrain and subdue a violent untrained thug during security work. Kumite is one Karateka Vs another, within rules of contact and restricted technique. The combat principles within Kata are for a very different environment which predates kumite and karate itself.
Lots of small mistakes... or i will say style related? Your shuto uke is too far out.. the last two kokutsu are only half steps at the time not join the feet before the next.
Thank you. You're welcome to ignore anything you disagree with. Or even share your preferred way so everyone can learn..?
Thanks for your comment
