I did not have a sound sleep without any sad dream after watching Hatchi. Everytime I slept I used to see I was abandoned, the sadness,the loneliness,the emptiness,the sorrow gasps me thru my dreams. Crying was for days btw. The strong emotions Hatchi has given us is remarkable - it deserved oscar but since oscar itself is corrupted - well,never mind! This movie deserved much more

Palma and Hachicko is the best drama dog movies that you can cry.
The last 20 minutes of Hachi a Dogs Tale is the most moving of all. They had an old dog portray Hachi in the last scene so you really got a sense that this dog had been waiting for Richard Gere for 10 years. I cried for days. And the background music throughout the film was so good and added to the emotion.
Please, watch "777 Charlie". It's an Indian movie. Somewhat in the same footsteps of "Hachi" in terms of spirituality but it was even better. Great End.

I,m glad you put Hachi at the top of the list . I promised myself I wouldn't see it again , but I did yesterday and it again made me cry. The dogs in the three stages of Hachi's life acted so well . The movie made the real Japanese Hachi world famous. But where are some other lovely dog movies that haven't been mentioned like, "Lassie Come Home" , "Turner and Hooch", and "Benji" ?

bin and picked it up. Gave a DVD to my friend, one for library and 1 for me. The real movie is in Japan. There is a statue of Hachi in a railroad ,people love to touch the statue of Hachi, a dog reminding people of love and loyalty. Now the statue of Hachi and his owner there.

"Palma," --- a 2021 Russian film, starring a huge lovable and obviously very intelligent and excellent German Shepherd actor is my absolute favorite dog movie. It has a wonderful happy ending too. I cried buckets! Loved it, and JUST LOVED Palma! I will never watch sad dog movies with sad endings. I can't take them.
Don't forget "fluke". Very underrated and has a beautiful soundtrack.

I haven't seen so many dog movies, and I should take this list as movies I should watch.
But still, I wish there were other childhood dog movies I used to love when I was a kid. Bethoveen was allways a favorite, also Fluke, criminally underrated. I do recall many other dog movies that I don't know the name, but the one that deserves a spot is Benji the hunted! Best dog actor for many years!

they have simple yet beautiful story
"Hachi" is for me simply the greatest love story ever told or presented on screen. Humans in love with other humans can sometimes make for wonderfully moving stories, of course, but nothing, absolutely nothing, comes close to this story in representing for me the depth of genuine devotion in the realm of earthly love, however that "love" might be defined. I'm now an old man, but in all my years I can't remember coming away from a movie with my heart more broken from or my soul more in awe of something so purely saintly as this glorious dog's story. I can't watch this movie a second time for I'm not at all sure that I have the remaining capacity to weep ever again so hard as I did when watching it the first time.
You could have mentioned two real stories :
1) « Barry » (France 1949) starring Pierre Fresnay : a true story of a saint-bernard dog in the mountains.
2) « The Incredible Journey » (Walt Disney Productions) : the true story of two dogs and a cat running through America to join their humans.

Togo because I randomly found it while i was watching air buds and william de foe as the actor is very best great acting and through out the movie I loved togo very much and was shocked and moved after the ending

Ok Folks, here is my cue. The best movie I ever watched is an Indian Fim called "777 Charlie" from 2021. I mean best among all categories. It simply topped Hachi or Marley. It is extremely well done and it is such an original storyline that I watched it 5 times (Hachi 3 times and Marley 2 times). In some ways, it is so spiritual that I guess only Indians could come up with such an original movie. Every time I cried and laughed. It is important to pay attention to the details. The end is simply sublime. I loved it!!!

One dog movie that didn't make it on here but deserves to be on is Goodbye, My Lady (1955?) starring Brandon DeWilde, Sidney Poitier and a very beautiful Basenji. It's unusual. It doesn't have a "happy ending" (the dog doesn't die so don't worry about that). It's an interesting story about the American South, a boy doing the right thing, and sacrifices made for a family member. And of course, the ties between dog and human. Check it out. The only movie I've seen from this list is A Dog's Purpose. I loved it. Thanks for the recommendations.
