I seriously respect Dr. West. There’s no bias in him at all, and that’s something the world seriously lacks. When he speaks about having joy, you can tell he truly knows what it is.

It's not accurate that he keeps emphasizing that we have our own rules on reservations and our own sovereignty on reservations. Not every tribe is on reservations some of us are freely somewhat happily not on reservations some of us never had been on reservations really or at least to the extent as other tribes. I'm Cherokee I am part of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma it's the biggest tribe in the country we have the largest numbers and probably the most land out of any other tribe but we do not have reservations. We have land that is part of the Cherokee Nation. And the Cherokee Nation has a lot of its own rules it has its own Healthcare and it's own way to take care of the poor which is most of us really, people in our tribe. But it's not on reservation land it's on Cherokee land we can own any land the Cherokee Nation could buy any land that's for sale and it would become part of the Cherokee Nation Cherokee citizens can buy land and it would be, and sell it or let it become part of the Cherokee Nation. There's currently a debate on whether or not we will go back to having a massive reservation which would include a large part of Oklahoma including half of the City of Tulsa and that's because of a pretty controversial court case going on right now don't want to get into it. But yeah not all tribes are still on reservations and we all run ourselves as if we are an independent nation inside the United States in a way we have a lot more Independence than other minority groups but we also have a lot more wrong with us because we've had more wrong done to us in history than a lot of other groups and we have the biggest problem with being recognized then any other group that's not debatable Native Americans are overlooked more than anyone else. And we have a lot of Native American people in this country who are not recognized as Native Americans because their tribe is not recognized by the government which is insane imagine being a black person and the government telling you you are not legally a black person it's absolutely horrible. But yeah as I was saying the point I was trying to make not all Native Americans live on reservations and it's not right that he makes such a Distinction on that since it is a false distinction.

As a Northern Cheyenne I don't find this statement completely false. However the poor economic state of many reservations are due to many other reasons, such as a fundamental belief to not participate in the destruction of land for mineral resources, as well as a lack of a ancestral passed down knowledge of how to participate in a capitalist economy, or desire to, as well as many other reasons. On poor reservations most of the socialist type government aid comes from the US government though, not the tribal government itself.

@Abserd O Be realistic. The pipeline and even the Trumps idiotic wall are going to cut through reservations. There needs to be an acknowledgement of misdeeds. We can't even get retarded conservatives and stormfags to acknowledge the attempts to throttle progress for minorities with infringements of voter rights, for example.

Well I think he needs to do a little bit of more some homework. Some of the Indian tribes throughout the United States are extremely wealthy as well Foxwood in Connecticut was one of the largest casinos in the United States three months behind counting their money. And there's quite a few of those throughout the United States Minnesota sung Oregon Washington the state of Washington that is we're not all ignorant. I worked in the gaming industry and I know all too well. So he needs to go do a little homework. There's alcoholism to every nationality if you get down to it it is his disease just like overeating can be obesity. Diabetes as well wake up people.

Why do people think the native-people have claim to 'the Americas' for eternity? It was only a matter of time before the more dominant old world and the new world crossed-paths. It's not like everybody would have just ignored an entire hemisphere, and be like "OK guys, somebody is here first, let's all go back home and never return". Civilizations have crossed paths many times in human history and the more dominant one always prevails. This sucks for the weaker people but life isn't fair. If dominant aliens came down to earth and wanted to enslave the human race to work in the underground sugar mines, guess what we'd be doing? The native americans were just WAY too far behind the old world folks. Things the old world had that the new world didn't (other than stronger immune systems) were gunpowder, smelting, written language (not hieroglyphs) to be passed down, large ship building, large building construction, horses, domesticated animals, hot-dogs, and other things. My point is, it's not our fault they couldn't keep us out. They can either fight us, and drive us out, or get on board, but stopping time isn't an option. It's also annoying how many of the native americans are against any type of progress, or building just because everything is somehow sacred at some specific location. Come on indians, get your shit together!
