    This was very informative, thanks! I'm an apprentice plumber and you helped me draw a lot of connections about combustion. I'd be interested to see more about the mode of heat transfer whether cast iron radiator or what have you. You are clearly a gifted orator, teacher and also enjoy what you do, which makes the material that much more engaging.

    Thanks for the lesson guys. 12 years experience in Hvac/R recently went from non union to a union company and I have experience with all residential Hvac equipment with ease. Reach and walk in applications for refrigeration in commercial and little industrial experience so the video was super helpful. Water boilers are my strong suit but my knowledge of steam boilers isn’t what is could be so again thanks for the information

    Anthony, does an excellent job apprising viewers on the operation of this CB boiler. The only thing which was reviewed a but hastily, was the oil burning. Normally, a CB boiler contains a patented fuel oil controller module which varies the flow of the oil based on the firing rate and does this through a metering cam connection to the single point fuel/air positioning system he nicely described. As the firing rate decreases, the fuel not burned is automatically returned to the oil tank or the piping loop ultimately supplying the oil to the air atomized nozzle. This air BTW, is referred to as "primary air," or that which is used for atomizing the fuel oil.

    • @mattairey2893
      @mattairey2893 Рік тому

      Thanks for the clarification on this, it was my next question. If you're so inclined maybe you could also answer another question. The flame sensor is required for the firing of the natural gas side but he didnt mention any kind of system check for flame before introducing oil. Does the oil control also have the flame sensor requirement before adding the oil?

      Those CB's are considered to be Cadillac boilers. Most large commercial boilers in Wisconsin are dual fuel like this one. Their oil system is worth learning about. We frequently got higher efficiency readings with #2 fuel oil than we did with natural gas on the Cleavers. Since they are 4 pass boilers, their operating efficiency is tremendous!

    i do residential and have been for a while thinking about making the move to commercial it seems like thats where the money is at... it also doesnt seem so much different than residental obviously for combustion you need air fuel and heat but what i havent really gotten yet is the plumbing portion still working on that but the company i work for i dont think they like to train the technicians because they have so many accounts they would rather have a few techs who know service andsend them to the service calls and the rest of us to do clean outs which has gotten old

      Philip Grant are you in or around the area of New York City?

    • @johnpatrick3458
      @johnpatrick3458 5 років тому

      I made the leap after 12 years in resi. I've been doing commercial now for 5 years and I don't know why I didn't do it sooner. Journeyman resi techs in my area make $25-$30/hr. Commercial guys make $34-$38. I'm currently at $36.50/hr. You don't have to worry about customers looking over your shoulders. You don't have to worry about a customer blowing up on you about a bill. Everything gets invoiced to the owner or property management firm. Most commercial companies are more laid back than resi companies. Usually resi companies are owned by someone who doesn't know a whole lot about business and therefore will put more and more pressure on you because they think their employee's are the reason that they aren't as profitable as they should be. I worked for a guy that could not produce nor read a profit/loss statement. His wife was the office manager. She would leave invoices stacked everywhere and wouldn't get back to customers. We'd go through invoices and find $20,000 worth of repairs that needed to be done from months ago. She'd call the customers and they'd either decline because by that time they didn't think it was important, or they had already called another HVAC company. The commercial company I work for now is the opposite. The owner has a business degree and everything is completely organized. The stress is minimal because we can all clearly see what are role's are and exactly what we need to do to improve. The company generated 7 million in gross profit my first year. 5 years later and we're now at 12 million. More money means better wages and benefits.

      @@Misterprepper I was talking "electric grid" boilers, not boat boilers.
      And heating any boiler from cold to steam in 30 mins. is not good for the boiler.
      My point is the standard electric grid boilers would never be shut down just because the wind was blowing.

    Hi does the fan come on before the dampers make the end switches ? Or it doesn’t matter thank you

    • @rodbender5453

      If there is a call for heat and all the safety's are made then The damper will drive open and when it is fully open the end switch on the damper or actuator will make allowing the combustion fan to start, with the boiler driving to pre-purge. The damper needs to open befor the fan starts, if not it was wired incorrectly or jumpered out.

      Call for heat, combustion air fan starts, the combustion air damper is driving to high fire, and the draft damper is driving open (if applicable), both dampers have end switches to prove open in high fire switch circuit of flame safe guard, wired in series, the circuit has to close with in 10 minutes depending on flame safe guard or lock out will occur.

      @@Misterprepper If I understand the question, this was for the forced draft fan of the burner and the boiler room makeup air damper proving switch. The boiler will not start at all until the boiler room makeup air damper switch proves that the damper is open.

      1ST you have to figure out at what phase you are experiencing the flame failure is it at pilot, low fire or when its Modulating to high fire
