I just found this (2+yrs late!) and am very impressed, Barns. I love this piece since, as a child, I found it in my Nana's record collection! I hope the RSI went away. Bev
Forget about 'missed' or 'wrong' notes! My family's constant attention - 'you missed that one!', 'oops!', "that wasn't right, was it?" or "Wow, that was bad!' etc, took away so much of the joy of playing piano, I nearly quit playing altogether. I became so self-conscious, my hands went cold and shook so I couldn't play. I'm over all that today! Congrats on having the sheer nerve to get out there to play this beautiful, complex piece - from memory - just before being deployed! Fantastic!
WOW ..so many many critics....thank you for sharing this...i love this piece...i have a recording of richard addinsel and the hollywood bowl...its pretty amazing..you did a great job...thank you
Great Job! I think this is a very concise work that brings out the dramatic possibilities of the piano and orchestra genre. Well played and very positively received!
AH! I love this. I've not played this piece, but I've played Rachmaninov 1st and 2nd--so the heart is similar. For some reason I'm obsessing over this piece tonight. It's SO cool to see you in full uniform banging the hell out of the black beast. ROCK ON! And blessings on your music, family and country.
barnslou, I also developed carpal tunnel from playing the piano and had to have surgery, which did fix it. I also found that wheat and anything w/ gluten exacerbated it terribly and gave up all food with gluten, which controlled the pain. Just wanted to share that with you. Great job! Thanks for posting.
Great play.If one can play Rachmaninoff 2nd Piano Concerto, this piece will not be so difficult to play.Richard Addinsell was basing the style of Rachmaninoff in composing this welknown movie theme music The Warsaw Concerto for the movie The Dangerous Moonlight in 1940.During that time, there was censorships and monitoring on the use of classical music for film production.
Adrian - I thought you played that extremely well. This is coming from an old OZ Army Musician who was (I am pretty sure) he first to play piano with a Military Band in OZ 1970 (of all things "The Pink Panther" LOL but I got an improvised solo in it). That piece comes across in B major but I think it is normally in C???. Didn't notice any bad notes myself but that is the sign of a good musician as you are to be able to hide them.;) Well done! I later played keyboards in dance bands.
Yes, it sounds very Rachmaninoff-esque. I totally thought it was Rachmaninoff's piano concerto when I heard it on the radio. So much russian fiery passion!
I'd just been listening to him reading "hitler, my part in his downfall" on the bbc and decided to try and find this after hearing him mention it so much. I thought it must have been bad with him talking of it so much and sure enough it is "bloody awful" as he described!
I can't here this wrong note! But what of it? The great Vladimir Samoylovich Horowitz had been known to admit to playing a wrong note or two. Your comment is so unnecessary. It is a lovely performance. So lighten up!!!

I worked on this for two years because I loved it so deeply. Unfortunately, I abandoned ship when the tempo got to presto near the end!
bravo e bello
BRAVO ! ! ! ! !
Wrong notes or not, I enjoyed it, I only wish that I had half of your talent.
brava!
Very moving interpretation. Romantic, as it should be! However, the orchestra needs a little work. Too bad its only an edited version!
Spike Milligan was right about this!
that's cool, for him to admit, so its all good now i guess heh
very well played band sounds great too !!!!
Very well played!! Bravo!

Nice but pay attention, you seem to have to much tension on your body while playing.
is it just me...or he already made a mistake in the first chord...what....or is the piano out of tune..
