- In this episode of HUNTR Podcast, the guys sit down and talk off-season projects and what's to come over the next couple weeks. With a trip planned to the Illinois farm, it's finally time to start getting ready for food plots. This is the time of year where we start to really look forward to the next deer season. It's all the work we do in the off-season that gives us the opportunity to chase whitetails every year. Whether we're training physically for hunts or busting our asses in the field, we're thinking deer every day. This is our lifestyle, and we're trying to make deer hunting better for ourselves and everyone else involved in the community. That's what we're here to talk about today. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Man how many times is Jared gonna jack knife that trailer, lmao😂
Been a long 4 weeks ain’t it lol
"Baiting is the welfare of hunting" needs to be a T-shirt.
My cousin loves spring gobbler. Its his favorite. I think i know why. I filmed him kill his first bird. It was a longbeard. His dad was with us also and witnessed it. Also, he had a hand in calling it in. He was never successful at deer hunting when younger. So when got that bird, with family present and on film to replay over and over, the excitement we all had cherring when he got it and that it was a good bird i can understand how he loves turkey hunting way more than deer hunting. Its you vs the bird via calling. Not like a grunt tube for deer. your moving, and theres lots of close calls. It makes sense to me even though im not into turkey hunting, i havent carried a gun but one time in over 10 years.
Hunting over a corn pile, is the same as hunting over a food plot. IMO
The title of this pod alone had me hook line and sinker
So I listen to the pics when I'm driving for work, so not watching. When you went into left field about the pedophile robot. I had to see what the hell you guys were drinking
Pods
I can't keep up 😂. Took me a week to listen to Lee's podcast 😅
Brush hogging or running over corn is unlawful in PA. It would be considered outside normal agricultural practices
Yep same in wisconsin
As always love the content, sorry to be nosey only as i can some what relate, i had a terrible thumb accident 3 years ago, since have learned to deal with it in my daily activity including hunting , hanging stands etc. curious if Jared had a accident or injury as well and care to share. Mine actually happened on the farm, could have definitely been a lot worse, lots of surgery and physical therapy to get hand rehabbed.
Dude, thumbs rough. Mine was pretty easy to bounce back from but you don't really need your ring finger. All I can say is try to make the most of it, make it an excuse to outwork everyone else. Feel fee to write us more on IG DM or on the website and can chat more about it.
So in Illinois you can food plot but you can't run over your standing corn?
Apparently you can't mow it in Michigan and Wisconsin (don't quote us) but you can in IL
I want to be Jared when I grow up
Congrats guys! Keep killing it.
Most mixes like throw n grow are mostly annual rye grass and it's great for kill plots in shady areas if well fertilized. Annual rye grass is pretty attractive to deer but perineal is not.
1:55:45 no no no it wouldnt need to be 500%. It would really just need to be 80-100%. At that point the harvest rate, plus the accidental death rate, on top of CWD killing anything over 3. It Would quickly (within a handful of years)be like trying to find a whitetail in 1940s Pennsylvania (after we’d clear cut 90% if the state and wiped out the deer in the year or two after). A decade or so after that point, you could have no deer or extremely few with none over the age of 24-36months.
I can't tell y'all how much I love this podcast. I am a Real Estate Broker in Florida, new-ish hunter, bought a farm last year, and I do body building.. y'all check all the boxes! Keep up the great work!
Hell yes dude! Glad to have you here
Been subscribed for a while, love the content. Look into bringing onto the pod the Gritty gang. Brain Call & Ryan Lampers
2:09:15 the turkey population is suffering in a LOT of places, nest raiders are absolutely a part of that (raccoons and opossums). Some of their increase may be do to baiting, i would say more of it is do to the loss of trappers. We need more trapping.
Perhaps a bigger issue recently for a lot of these states, our 100 year old state forests need more cutting activity to return large sections of younger forest to the ecosystem, turkeys prefer, and do better in, younger forests. Also, from 10-4ish years ago, we had train of wet springs for a large portion of the country. Horrible for nesting conditions. The run of dryer springs some states have had recently, have caused rebounds in turkey populations. which you like to see
Way more affective to run and gun! Sw va I've walked down, called in few, hear and stalked, seen and stalked dozens of long beards and only 2,3 if I implemented sit call n pray! Lol 😅 I need 1 gobble then daylight to come and turkey is a gonner! I mean that too it's really that easy with any good firearm
Glad yinz keep talkin about deer. Everything/everyone else I follow has flipped to turkeys. Stupid 🦃🤦🏻♂️
2:31:18 yall are being a little naive about baiting in PA. Its illegal on public ground, but when that public ground is greater that 40thousand continuous acres, baiting happens a lot a lot
Shoot a bare shaft at 20 yards once. You will have your own press the next week and learned to micro tune lol. A bare shaft with black tape in place of the vanes will expose how out of tune your bow is despite how tuned it seems to be.
Imox will kill both grasses and broadleafs in clover. The active ingredient is Imazamox. Thanks for the time you take to bring us your awesome podcast.
Your dad w his harness, lol! Watch "Pretty Bad at Hunting Deer", funny stuff :)
30:54 what he’s describing happens every year, all over the state. And PA has thousands of miles of streams, the fish and boat commission is too under staffed to patrol every stocked creek adequately.
18:04 been hunting turkeys my whole life, turkeys can at least hear as well as a deer. They dont spook as easily at distance from noise because they can fly and run faster. But they absolutely can hear as well as deer. And because they see in color, can kind of see better than deer. Thank god they cant smell shit or theyd be ridiculously hard to hunt
Life’s too short make a scene is valuable information!😂
You guys keep putting out new pods.. I'm trying to catch up from the beginning
Just fyi rye grass has a lot of nutritional value.
They are leafy grasses that produce highly palatable forage that often exceeds 70% digestible dry matter and 20% crude protein.
Whitetails don't eat ryegrass unless they are starving.
What is the drama with WCB podcast?
Did we miss something? Lol
@@HUNTRPOD Maybe. They have called yall out a few times by name as the HUNTR podcast. I found it strange since yall both seem to be all in on deer.
Dunno, we like those guys. Got a chance to catch up at the Iowa Deer Classic. All love on our end
You can't mow corn in Virginia either
How do yall feel about ebikes on public land? Im using one for the first time this year in PA on state forest land where they are legal with some restrictions. And its absolutely going to change how i hunt going forward. Its never ever been easier for me to travel the big woods for MILES with absolutely ease in 30minutes. Spring gobbler is right around the corner, ive had the bike out twice to listen for them. And holy hell is going to make gobbler hunting different. Absolutely cant wait to start running cameras this summer with it let alone archery season
Oh game changers, not sure exactly but I’m thinking they have to be 750W? 1000w? Regardless it will be so different, that said eventually the far spots are not going to be the least disturbed
@@HUNTRPOD750W maximum in PA have to stay on the trail and bike cant weigh more than 100lbs with a 20mph or 28mph speed limit. Its absolutely amazing! But no there are no more deep spots. 5 or 6 miles in 20minutes with no effort puts the end to it
116.51 nick makes an appearance
Let’s gooo!! Just remember hunting season is getting closer by the day.
Yeassssss
Actually i learned in the rule book this year that you can fish as an adult if you have the mentored license
Like the child has to have a mentored permit then you can catch and release in pa
@@elvinking8431yes but thats not what he was describing, he was describing a group of adults just fishing in that day. Which absolutely happens especially in the more rurals areas (he was at someones cabin/camp)
@@chuck8586 yes I agree it does happen where people just fish without taking children
Can we get a Jerad workout schedule?
Lol write us on the website and I'll hook you up. Pretty standard stuff. Just consistency

Shit man here in the south, even where dog hunting is illegal. They sue the dogs to bay the deer.
Deer will a decent leg wound will get run down and bayed for a 2nd shot. Rather than just recovery.
Some of the dog guys have been gored lol
