    Very interesting aspect after driving several cars, to have this cleared: There are several Philosophies as for the recuperation and one-pedal-driving or not.
    VW e-Golf: Free Sailing possible (like in neutral gear), four different recuperation modes, recuperation possible via the brakes (until max. recuperation is achieved, then normal brakes apply)
    Kia Soul EV: D-Mode just slight recuperation, harder recuperation mode, recuperation possible via the brakes (until max. recuperation is achieved, then normal brakes apply)
    BMW i3 & Tesla (Model X / S): Always recuperation when leaving the throttle, different modes available, but braking system separately without any effect on recuperation!

    Thanks for a very thoughtful, experienced review. The Tesla Model S is indeed one of the best cars built so far. It is an outstanding achievement in many different ways: styling, power, sophistication, smoothness, driving feel, noise and vibration, automation, controls and displays, etc. It's a bit shocking how advanced it is compared to other cars.
    As you note, the Model S feels like a much smaller, very agile car when driving it (aside from sheer mass). Part of that is due to the very low center of gravity since the battery pack is below the floor, but a lot is also due to a very good suspension design. The suspension was designed by the same guy who did the modern Ford GT a few years ago.
    Autopilot is ideal for motorways/highways/autobahnen since the roads are relatively simple and well marked and the other cars move in relatively predictable, stable ways. Those all contribute to successful cues for the automation.
    Autopilot probably should not be used in cities since there are too many variables and uncertaintes, and I would strongly recommend against it. Humans are better at resolving those uncertainties than machines, at least at present. (We have many self-driving Google cars here, and they do very well in city traffic, however, so improvement seems possible.)

    This car is amazing... My jaw just dropped.
    As a car it does lack some things such as storage spaces or a rear seat arm rest and it is too small in the inside for the huge external dimensions. These issues are easily fixable in a future generation.
    But the central display, the software, the acceleration, the auto-pilot. Just wow!!!
    And they don't charge you a monthly rent for the batteries as the Nissan Leaf or Renault Zoe do in a very outrageous way.

    • @Hirotoro4692
      @Hirotoro4692 8 років тому

      +Darkhoof leaf battery rent? You can buy leaf outright. Renault tho, your only option is to lease battery. Which is bad.

    One of the best Teslas reviews out there-thanks.
    I have been a car fan all my life and driven many different nice cars. However-after i tested a Tesla i feel exactly the same as the presenter: All other cars with engines feels so old and backwards they completely lost their appeal to me. Its like trying the iphone for the first time when everyone was using Nokia. Who uses an old school Nokia type phone today?
    Once you try electric you completely understand how superior it is. And with a Tesla the so called range anxiety is no longer an issue, unless you find it problematic to take a 20 min break after every 2-3h of driving.
    Sorry Porsche, Audi, BMW - you no longer interest me. You are the Nokia and Ericsson of the past. Great cars but way way behind.

    The car DOES have a grill, which is necessary for cooling the battery! Early Tesla Roadsters caught fire, until Tesla solved the battery cooling problem in 2008. Also, the driver's seat can be adjusted front/rear by moving the round button on the left side of the driver's seat.

    The good: Thank you for this nice and informative video. Although you didn't show more car's features, it is still very good. You put a lot of effort.
    The bad (not to be mixed with your video): never trust autopilot in traffic jams or similar. Even planes, with autopilots, always taking off and landing with good old human pilots.

    • @LoanwordEggcorn
      @LoanwordEggcorn 8 років тому

      +Damir Ulovec Autopilot is ideal for traffic jams on the highway, since it has a restricted area (no cross traffic) and lots of data (other cars) to use as inputs for good automated decisions. It's also ideal since traffic jams are some of the least enjoyable aspects of driving. Having the automation do that driving well is a big benefit.
      However, autopilot probably should not be used in cities, since as the reviewer notes, there are too many variables and uncertainties. Humans are better at resolving those uncertainties than machines.

    Your statement "Every other car...looks like from the last century, when compared to this car" says everything about this car, despite it having some defects. It is the best statement I have heard about this car. Win for Tesla, is win for humanity! Immense damage to our health and environment has already been done by the fossil fuel cars! Let us not make it worse. Thank goodness, there are cars like Tesla!

    I totally agree with everything in this test. I test drove a Mitsubishi Miev and immediately I was totally hooked on electric driving. Going back to normal cars feels like going back in the evolution of cars indeed. Unfortunately most electric cars still lack range. So I would go for Tesla, if only I had the money..... I have two remarks. 1. I would like a much smaller electric car. 2. I think this Tesla should have been the current Jaguar. That is a complaint towards Jaguar, not towards Tesla of course.

    You "capisci bene" the italiani 👌🏽👋🏽😎
    The Tesla S is very common where I live yet I've never seen one in that nice blue colour! Would you say it's ThomasBlue?? Hard to tell on my iPhone today.
    The styling, range and the simplicity of the power train of the Model S is what impresses me. A motor about the size of a melon (two in your case) and no transmission. My mechanic friends feel threatened!
    Remember: it's not the car you have to trust - it's the programmers' code!!! I spent many years as a programmer so I think I'll do the driving myself, danke 😝

    At Last respectful overview for a very good car. Here in California the tesla is getting popularity very fast you can't ride the highway without seeing one at least.tesla is doing what other automakers afraid or purposely delaying the introduction of this technology. Tesla gone mass market. And still this is the one of the first production car at that level of technology. It has to be some mistakes in the first but you need this step to advance more in the future.

    The charging network here in CA is such that convenience has never been an issue. My biggest issue with the car is trying to stay out of it.

The super charger network is still building out across the world , its what gives the Tesla the advantage for long distance driving, Plus its free.When the Gigafactory ( Battery factory ) goes online in 2017 .should be a game changer.I'm a Big Fan of tesla and Elon Musk, very forward looking company in general.The only concern going forward is the service of there vehicles , they are starting to have some issues with the customer base expanding, because of delays getting appointments, so that will have to be addressed ! Overall a Great Vehicle and very feature set .

    Definitely my dream car. I really look forward to the future of cars because electric cars are just such an amazing concept and seem to get better and better every year. The Tesla is just such a well thought out car but I think they could do a better job with the interior of the car, it feels like it needs more edgy design like the S-class maybe to make it stand out. It's just is too plain on the inside considering how crazy the acceleration is and everything else. Nice review!

    Most Tesla customers, at least here in the U.S., don't care at all about how green the car is. They only buy them to feel good and enjoy them. So, Tesla puts leather and other materials in because their customer bases actually want it. Haha.

    AMAZING CAR - good video- you can't stop smiling at the speed ! They just opened a dealership in my town BUT I can't always get to charging stations and can't run an extension cord out to the parking space in the parking lot near my condo - TESLA needs a hybrid system like Toyota offers- so those of us who can't get to charging stations can use either GAS or battery or both- best of all world (and the gull wing version is stunning) Imagine your typical electric golf cart with all batteries yet that goes instantly with enough torque to take two golfers and their gear all around a course, up and down hills,etc-- now multiply that by a thousand and you get a small taste of the power of this futuristic AWD vehicle-- can't be believed until it is actually experienced! I suspect that the SPORT mode allows greater driving range than using other INSANE modes! EVEN Porsche will be making these vehicles soon! Wouldn't be surprised if Rolls Royce doesn't soon come out with their silent model

    This car is incredible. I love that they have really rethought every aspect of the design. The minimalist interior is great and that massive touch screen blows me away.
    I would have already bought one if it wasn't almost 100k dollars here in Canada. If the model 3 comes in around 50k Canadian and isn't tiny like the i3 I will be a Tesla driver.

    Really nice review as always! About the autopilot, the S-Class can do the same and even the Passat! By the way, the car doesn't warn you if you aren't in contact with the steering for some time? I also wonder if the assistance systems are the same in the S-Class and the Model S, because if Mercedes provides some switches they might also provide them the assistance systems.
    Keep on making that great reviews! (Saludos desde España!)

      +Miguel Berghs Tesla's autopilot has been reviewed as clearly superior to Mercedes. See reviews from Consumer Reports for example that has driven both and rates the Tesla as the top technology for semi-autonomous driving. Tesla made it in partnership with Mobileye, independent and different from Mercedes system.

    One of the best Tesla reviews I've seen so far, and I've seen quite a few :-)
    I can only agree with everything. I've done a test drive with "just" the 70D model and even that one makes your jaw drop at the raw power it has right from 0 RPM.
    There's one huge downside of (test) driving this car. Basically every other car is "ruined" to some extend. You'll miss the power, the smoothness, the confidence en handling of that low weight distribution together with dual motors.
    Put into IT analogies, it's like comparing a Solid State Drive (SSD) to a (regular, spinning) Hard Disk Drive (HDD). Once you have experienced the former, the later will never look as great anymore. ;-)

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 років тому

      +Trashmail 8 thanks! Totally agree

    • @trashmail8
      @trashmail8 8 років тому

      +Autogefühl I love it so much, I just watched it for the second time. ;-D
      I think that with Tesla and also with SpaceX*, Elon Musk and his engineers are really showing how amazing they are when it comes to combining hardware (electric motor/rocket engine) and software. Basically it all resolves, no matter if it's a Falcon rocket or the autopilot, around hardware and controlling it (measuring, making decisions, presenting information in a user friendly way, etc.)
      * E.g. I know this is a car channel, but I really would like to recommend everyone who hasn't already to watch the historical and epic first landing of a first rocket stage back on Earth again. Search for the 21st of december 2015 "ORBCOMM-2" mission stream YT: ( watch?v=O5bTbVbe4e4&t=31m30s )
      If you love technology in general, it will give you goosebumps.
      Perhaps that's what I love most of what Elon is doing with Tesla and SpaceX: not just promising that future that everyone else is promising, but actually putting everything he has on the line to actually make and bring us that future.
      Yes, battery technologies and all that could be better, but it's already working _right now_.
      The first cell phones, laptops, color TV's, flat screen displays were very, very expensive, but look at how fast technology has come since the first iPhone and iPad! I'm not trying to imply that Apple actually invented everything from scratch, but they made it into a "package" that was complete enough for others to strive and attempt to make and do the same thing and/or better.
      Slowly, more and more car companies are now basically forced to start thinking more and more serious about fully electric cars. Would they be doing so without the slowly, but growing force of Tesla? (the thought of Tesla having a huge battery factory up and running and a fast growing supercharger network must be making some people nervous!).
      Who wins? Ultimately: us, the people who get to buy, use and experience wonderful products!
      I really love the sound of a nice V8 or for example the V12 of an Aston Martin. Gorgeous!
      But seeing (and having experienced) the mixture of both the simplicity and the elegance of the electric motor on one hand and on the other hand it's raw, instant power.. it's like magic! Now play some matching V12 tunes through your speaker system if you want, but the Tesla already feels like a combination of a space ship and a magic carpet.
      (And don't think: "I've been in a Prius so I know what a Tesla feels like" ;-P )

    Sir you might want to watch Tesla's product demonstration video on the vehicle. For the length of your video of 44:53 min I would expect a more correct demonstration of the car. There are a few cues you were missing that is important, which failed to demonstrate a proper testing. I'm sure the company would be more than willing to provide your respected magazine with such information. Thank you for responding to my comments. That's respectable.

    This is a really great car and fun to drive! Leveraging on its instant power delivery and zero emission as well as with the abundance of high-tech equipments, I think it would be a game-changer among the sports and luxury segments. In my opinion, Tesla car is a combination of both segments, making it a worth-buying car in today's market. For instance, owners won't be needing to spend on fuel to run the car, thanks to its electric powertrains, which significantly reduces the wear & tear. With the current global climate change - especially the melting of ices in the northern and southern poles, we should conserve our nature by reducing the carbon footprints. And the easy way to kick-start it by promoting people to drive electric cars (general speaking in automotive field). If you have extra money to put aside on electric cars, why not? On the other hand, although one may need to fork out more to own this car, it's worth noting that the charging infrastructure is widely available now. So charging the car wouldn't be difficult if you are running out of power. Above all, I have to agree with Thomas that it's true, "Tesla is doing something of what others just think." Whoah, I bet you definitely had fun driving this car Thomas :) I enjoyed watching your car reviews and am looking forward to your next episode. #Autogefühl

    Nice review. Please compare this in the 7 seat version and the Volvo XC90 T8 7 seat version and the Model X90D 7 seat version in a future video. Please mention safety features and omissions and lack of storage space, charging posts, luggage securing options etc with a view on family users with children. Please don't forget to mention the differences in safety features in the UK, EU & USA versions for example decreased number of airbags, Fog lights etc and please make the video LOOONNG enough to do it thoroughly like in all your videos.
