What is your favorite history curriculum? Do you mix curriculums like me?
We’ve been using Gather round units from the beginning- founder Rebecca Spooner is a genius and our kids stay interested and they are not boring. I recommend the Easter and Christmas unit. The Geography units are amazing 😊
Careers and Trades was a fun and interesting unit. We did it for high school credit and for an early elementary student.
Thank you! This was SO helpful! I currently have a 2nd and 4th grader 🍎
Oh, we love GRH and are using this unit (along with 2 and 3) next year for history. I LOVE the tip of having them look through their pages first!
We do Classical Conversations and they also attend a charter school two days a week that covers history. At their charter school they use Story of the World. During the 2020-21 school year we used Bookshark C for world history for my then-2nd grader. I love Bookshark and would use their books again. We also tried My Father’s World’s US History program to supplement last year but didn’t get through much of it. We might pick up again it next year or get Bookshark D instead.
This was helpful; especially about the adjustment period. Thank you! 🎉
Oh man this is exactly what we plant to do. We have the combined level d/e Books from bookshark and wanting to do this next year!!! So cool to see you doing this too. Not sure how we will do these mini units and doing regular units too.
I’m debating between this and Mystery of History. Thanks for sharing.
So, you have to select several teachers guides and subjects for a child?
That is extremely expensive per year.
Yeah….I am not sure how many you would need to complete per year to be considered a full year of curriculum but it could add up. We use these more as stand alones
Learn Our History (animated) videos for kids are also very good!
Oooo I’ll check those out! Thank you
We’re currently doing this same one for history as well as their Ocean unit. 😁
How’s the ocean one?
@@gatheredandgroundedhomeschool we’re really enjoying it! My daughter’s obsessed with ocean animals, especially sharks so that helps!😅
We really love my fathers world. It’s very similar to what you described. But it’s a years worth of unit study style with a period of history and live in books. It also does have the worksheets for multiple grades from third through eighth and adding on a younger second grader as well. I have a question about your guest hollow grandma? Have you been using it a long time or did you just start using it. I’m thinking about leaving fix the grammar for one year and doing the guest Hollow grammar for fourth grade and then going back to the second level fix it grammar for fifth or sixth grade.
We’ve been using the Guest Hollow Grammer for only a few weeks officially. I did try out Fit it Grammar first and decided the same thing to use Guest Hollow grammar first this year and next then move into that!
Are you still using the history from GR?
No we are not - it worked so well last year but this year was a total flop
This isn’t a very traditional history curriculum but we are doing Five in a Row 😊
How long does it take to do this unit?
There are 20 lessons, so it took us about 2 months since we school only 3x a week. Each lesson takes about 30-45 minutes
