Main thing with kindergarten is handwriting, math and reading. All the other stuff is extra but can be fun. Reading I recommend AAR or Ordinary parents guide to teaching reading. AAR is more hands on and fun but at a slower pace and Ordinary Parents guide is 0 fluff but gets the job done. Once we completed AAR 2 we switched to Ordinary parents guide just to speed up the pace.

the gather round letters and numbers is our pick for Pre-K, kindergarten! we start with books 3-4 and then go into ready to read. we love the short animal stories and comprehension questions. takes us like 15-20 minutes which is perfect and then I just throw a video or craft out to finish the day

We really love Pinwheels! I have several videos on it. It does take quite a bit of prep work to get up and going, but once that is done it's pretty easy to use. So trying to do all that while your working on a bit move, but not be the best. I would just keep doing what you are doing for now and then once you guys get moved and settled look into other options. What your doing is going well, so don't rock the boat and add more to your plate just yet IMO. Good luck with everything! Can't wait to hear all about it!

I have homeschooled 3 boys. All About Reading for the win! 20 minutes a day, lot of cutting, games, and activities. It has helped my family so much! I hope you find something that works for you!

I have used AAR Level 1 with all 3. We basically only used the flashcards and readers. My son only used the readers. Then we used the Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading with my girls for additional instruction. My son is starting 1st grade only using the McGuffey reader (not OPGTR). I have now included Abeka Spelling and Language books to make my son more independent.

Fellow full time WFHM/ homeschooling mom. All About Reading has been the best fit for my wiggly first grade boy. It took half of kinder to figure out a good fit. The lessons are 20 mins and I typically include lots of movement with the recommended games. His favorite right now is when I hide word cards around his room and he finds and reads them to me. We use TGTB as a supplement.

For moving, I highly recommend having an "open first" box for each area of the house. Then the curriculum you need first will all be in one box, and you can always leave the rest to open and sort through later. This is also helpful for kitchen things, the bathroom (e.g., shower curtains), sheets to make a bed, tools, etc. It's so nice not to have to sort through all the boxes to get some essential things immediately!

Last year my daughter was kindergarten age and she was not that interested in reading and going through her curriculum. We used All About reading level 1 so we just read lots of books together. This year 1st grade, we started back with All about reading and she is doing awesome! So maybe take a break from LA with him until he is ready. He will learn to read and when he does it will be so fun! I am loving teaching my daughter to read this year.

Another vote for Logic of English. It has been great for both my active boys! It’s also open and go which I loved since I also work full time. It isn’t overly complicated once you get going and understand the flow…there are a lot of parts and there is a bit of a learning curve (for the parent) but I’ve seen it work well for my first and using it for the second time through and still good!

First Start Reading by Memoria Press has been a good fit for my 6 year old son. We throw in some Explode the Code, too. Alpha Phonics is also pretty good, but the readers are blah. Memoria’s readers are better.

I use Logic of English with my 5 year old. We do also use Bob Books as additional readers. We love LOE & Bob Books!

In Kindergarten we did struggle a lot to find something that work for us. After 6 months, we started all about reading and that worked for us great. I did need something that held my hand and kept my kinesthetic child engaged.
Hooked on phonics just didn’t work for us, it was more supplemental for us and we just didn’t continue it.

We loved Happy Cheetah for reading/LA! I only used the 2nd grade level cause that’s where my youngest was by the time I found it but they have a K-2 program.

abeka handbook for reading was great for us for my youngest two after trying lots of things. their k-2 is great for phonics, but if you don't want to use the whole thing the handbook is great as a resource by itself but the workbook helps to reinforce it .

I would suggest Abeka for phonics or Jady A’s resources (Elemental Phonics).

Have you looked into Logic of English? It's an all in one and includes fun silly review games that kids love. A lot of the activities include gross motor movement...which my son loved. We did levels A thru D. He called it Dragon School. 🐉❤

Do you need/use saxons tests and solutions workbooks with Nicole the math lady? I’m switching my son to Saxon.
