Ratchet Corner Brace Restoration

  • Welcome to My tiny Workshop
In this video I will be restoring a rusty brace. After a lot of searching I couldn’t find any information on who produced this brace. There was only a stamp that said foreign. This brace is rather unique. Most braces have wooden or plastic handles. However this one was aluminium.
I remember the day I bought this at a local boot sales. The moment I saw it I knew it would be perfect for restoration.
Before my restoration began I had to find a paint that matched the original colour. After browsing all the options on the paragon website I finally found Claret Violet. Although the video makes it look pink, in reality it is a perfect match.
This restoration was rather tedious. Since there were many small pieces I had to sand and polish each piece perfectly. Thankfully the lathe helped out a lot. After polishing I had to protect all my hard work from rusting. I decided to nickel plate all the parts. I spent many hours questioning wether the parts were properly plated. I am pretty certain I have done it properly.
Finally after all the parts were finished I reassembled the drill and placed it it my office where it will live an easy life.
Thank you for stopping by to read and watch this video. I hope you enjoy and subscribe for more.

How did you put the jaws back together ?,
Did you use the same bit of wire or new wire, just asking as i have a set of jaws that i need to fix, i only have wire in one jaw and can see where it has broken and missing.

An unusual version of the corner brace.
The color is somewhat unusual, but the restoration quality of this instrument is excellent. An additional plus for nickel plating.
We rarely see the works of "My tiny Workshop", we would like to more often.
    Once again, great work.

Hahaha I panicked a bit when you were removing the handle and feared a rush of tiny ball bearings and was confused at the lack of the little pitter patter sounds.
Then I laughed so hard when an absolute unit of a bearing plopped out when you tilted the handle.
Nice job! I kind of want to find one now so I can put a socket adapter in the jaws.
