There should be an easier way to turn off these "Reactions" rather than starting a video call. I'm a therapist and had clients experiencing confusion and interruptions due to these "Reactions" showing up on their screens during our sessions. Apple needs to think more about the businesses that use their products and not just about individuals who are amused and fascinated by these ridiculous and unwanted additions to their software operations.
I didn't see the icon that this OP went to. How did you get this shut off? Similarly I am a therapist and can't stand this feature.
same I am also a therapist and its so inappropriate. Still cant turn off?
@@Happisoul you have to go into the actual Face Time application. I struggled initially also, because I was trying to go in thru settings and then thru my contacts (as I would if I wanted to face time someone). I didn't even realize there was an actual facetime icon app on my phone till I stopped and listened to what he was saying, LOL. The icon is a green box with a white video camera. click on that, then use your finger to scroll down on your screen from the upper right hand corner of your screen. Then you'll see the "Video Effects" button at the top of the screen to the left. Click on that, then unselect "reactions" and that should do it. Hope this helps!!! 😊

Thanks so much. Such an annoying feature to force onto its customers as a default. Makes for unprofessional business meetings.
thank you! does apple not know that people use their products for professional meetings? oy. your tutorial is great - thanks!
Thanks so much. After I searched "balloons in zoom" I quickly found out that the problematic "feature" is called "reactions." I'd read several articles and watched a couple of other videos before this one, but you're the first person to clearly explain where to find the menu to turn off this annoying "feature."
But the question remains: why on earth isn't the default setting having them off? It's embarrassing enough to have a virtual balloon release happen in an English class, but in my reading I found that it's been happening in business meetings and therapy sessions as well.
I thought I figured out how to turn it off last week (what you recommend here), but 1. it randomly turns back on and 2. yesterday I was on a Zoom call, reactions started , *massive eye roll* I checked and they were already turned off. 🙃 I'm streaming live today and guess we'll see if they're off. This is the worst idea, who did this???
I was still getting the reactions on zoom calls with my mac, but the video icon did not have an option to turn off reactions because I use NDI Virtual Input. I was able to turn it off by switching the facetime camera in zoom and then the video icon gave me the option to turn it off. Hope this helps. @danielschwarz8464 @glamazini

I've been hesitant to launch my videos because I didn't know where this was coming from. I've been doing audio only.... Thank you for this easy and clear way to dispense of those silly reactions.
I’ve turned it off on FaceTime but I don’t know how to turn it off on Instagram stories? I hate this “feature”, why do they force them on us
It as so annoying at work when the bubbles and thumbsup pops-up when I am sharing not a good news too!! THANK YOU for sharing the tips!
Thank you for the clear explanation and straight to the point!🙏
We've been trying to figure out for the last week where this was coming from. Thank you!
Thank you so much!!! This has been such a frustrating update! I couldn't for the life of me figure it out!!
Thank you so much for this video! I'd been searching everywhere for how to turn these reactions off but your suggestion is the only thing that's actually worked
Thank you soo much! What an annoying feature! I appreciate the help
you are a life saver. so inappropriate on my work zoom. I now have disabled thanks to you. no help from IT or Apple or Zoom as it is the MacBook setting and not an I phone.
Thank you for this!!! It does it on Instagram too when trying to take a video for my story! It's so annoying!!!
Super helpful, thank you so much!
As always David, Thank You for your time education.
My pleasure!
Thank you so much that thing was soooooo annoying!!
I did as you said and then when I tested it out in Facebook messenger the reactions still occurred.
Thank you so much for supporting the GLBTQIA community. It means a lot.
i have this on whats up vedio call it means someone is hacked me & watching me?
I launched ballons and fireworks accidentally.... wow... you are right ...funny for about 2 seconds. It is a great tool to breaking a "thumbs up" gesture...
thank you
I did not need another reason to hate my Mac
This doesn't work in a zoom room. It says to start the app you use but there is no way to minimize the zoom room and adjust the gestures/reactions settings!
These bubbles started popping up in Discord video calls today without me doing any gestures. I don't have Facetime installed. It's absolute bizarre that I had to install a new app to disable this.
It's good to know this and eventually I'll likely disable it, but so far I found when testing it out, I REEEEAALLY had to emphasize the gesture in order to trigger it. I've found that it just hasn't been going off in my FaceTime calls.
I had a Zoom session with a client recently and during the session he was standing with his arms crossed so his hands were under his armpits, but his thumbs were visible. He was flashing me thumbs up reactions the entire call. Very distracting. I can only imagine the number of scenarios where this is going to go off accidentally at a highly inappropriate moment.
@@TechTalkAmerica LOL Yah I can see how that would be really obnoxious after the first time. I've been fortunate SO FAR but if that starts happening then I'm disabling it! Cheers!
That’s a great shirt 👚
The reactions freeze my video
I didn’t even know this was a thing😳. Now I’ll have to go looking for it then probably have to turn it off😏. Thanks for all your informative videos, David.
Still can't download "Wallpapers" on MacOS Sonoma - Any fix : ???
You mean you can’t download Apples wallpaper or you can’t swap it with your own?
@@TechTalkAmerica Can't download at all !!!
Everytime i tried to download any wallpaper it download very slow, and after downloading around 40% it drops or failed to download - Restarted MacBook many times but doesn't work !!!
I checked online & found there are many people having this issue 😤
how can i switch off without calling anyone?
I just opened the Facetime app, and it worked just fine.
Thank you so much It is reaallly annoying
In a meeting with a million-dollar client and balloons start popping up with a frozen face.
This update was worse than when they forced U2 into my Apple playlist.
Good to know. Thanks
Happy to help
@@TechTalkAmerica 😎
Thanks😊
Welcome 😊
As a deaf induvial I find this extremely annoying. Our American Sign Language do not match these reactions. For example, I don't mean balloons etc when I say (sign) the word "2". I think I prefer to have my old phone back!
Definitely one of the stupidest, most annoying enabled by default features ever!
