More NYC Videos: • Indian STREET FOOD Tou...
XING FU TANG: Here, we tried a medium brown sugar boba milk. They used a blowtorch to crystallize the brown sugar on top, making almost like creme brûlée. It was exceptionally sweet and rich!
SALTY DUCK EGG: This street food treat was like a soft-boiled egg, with a bit of runny yolk. It also lived up to its name, as it was very salty!
ROASTED CHESTNUTS: I love these roasted, smoky snacks. You can get them from street food vendors all over the world, including NYC!
XIAOLONGBAO: This is a traditional pork soup dumpling from Shanghai. It usually comes boiling hot, so you have to nibble a tiny hole in it and sip out the juice before putting it in your mouth!
YOUTIAO: Youtiao is a fried, savory breadstick that you usually dip into soy milk. I had this dish in Shanghai back in 2019. It’s fluffy but filling!
MALA SIBLINGS: Here, we tried an assortment of duck parts (feet, neck, and head) coated in Szechwan numbing spices. They were spicy and completely numbed my lips and tongue!
PASTRIES: We got a Portuguese egg custard, a Hong Kong egg custard, and a pineapple bun at a local Cantonese bakery, as well as a coffee. The bun was fluffy and sweet, with a crispy and buttery crust on the outside. Both egg custards were creamy and melted in my mouth, but I liked the Hong Kong one a little more!
FOOD COURT: Here, we enjoyed some classic noodles, and a Chinese burger made with lamb. The noodles were cold and cut thick, and spicy. I also loved the lamb burger, which had a flaky and crispy bun, and tender, juicy, and flavorful lamb meat inside. We finished with an herbal drink that’s the most popular soft drink in China!

Hm, I have mixed feelings about this post. Red flags - those steamed buns were as pointed out definitely not soup dumplings. If there isn't at least a little line up, or sign of rapid turn over, not a great sign. If you see a line up of Chinese grandmas for bbq or anything, get in that line. Don't feel like you need to have chicken feet or duck heads - unless they seem to be super popular at that particular place, and therefore probably really good, you might not love it. However if you think about it, people love chicken wings - what is the difference? Fatty meats around a bunch of bones. It is all about perception. The Chinese long doughnut - best dipped fresh and hot in congee or Hong Kong milk tea, not just by itself. It is like a giant churro. Regardless, nice to give everything a try.

You're supposed to eat those salt eggs with congee. Usually 2-4 people split one, but it's not unheard of for someone who really enjoys it to eat a whole one on their own.

Flushing is such a dynamic place with food confronting you in shops and via sidewalk vendors. It's sensory overload. And, eating without an agenda in impromptu fashion makes it an adventure. I'd never seen salty eggs ever offered for sale like that...as a snack? It's usually eaten with other foods such as congee. I believe the duck parts are what's called "lu wei" in Mandarin. A tradition where various meats and parts are stewed and braised in soy sauce and spices. It's popular in Southern China and throughout the country. Egg tarts? Of course, you can't go wrong with those...a Hong Kong, Cantonese, and Macanese staple. The cold noodles ("liangpi") and Chinese hamburger ("roujiamo") looked delicious. They are the foremost ambassadors of Xi'An cuisine abroad. And, there's no livelier place to get them than at the New World Mall food court. All in all, this was a very interesting survey of the Flushing food scene.

I noticed that a fair share of the graphics showing the names of the foods were tagged with "Miami." Some were tagged correctly with "NYC." It was confusing to me at first. But, then, I realized that the inclusion of "Miam" must have been an error in editing that was allowed to reoccur. Obviously, David and Xiaoma are in Flushing, New York and not in Miami.

Hi David. Just finished watching this video and I am going to be very honest with you. Some parts of the video I loved and some I didn't. Some of the Chinese food left a lot to be desired but I loved the bao, noodles, the lamb burger and the pastries. Wish they had put some pineapple in the bun. The reason why the tea or coffee is piping hot is to dissolve all the fat in the foods that you eat. All in all, I liked the video but I really expected better food. Just being brutally honest. Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing what else you and Nathan did in NYC. ❤️🇹🇹🇨🇦
