    Vinyl...
I still remember when I was middle schooler..i saved milk money and every Saturday I ran to record shop buy a vinyl or vinyls. Maybe the happiest moments ever in my life (except the days my kids were born).
And i still have the same feeling every time I picked LPs since I've made some money myself.

Hey Bob- love the attitude & love the energy…keep on keeping on! I’m so happy to have found your channel (thanks to Cheap Audio Randy) and share the love of vinyl. I got back into it during the Dark Time (pandemic) and my world has opened up just like it did when I was 14 when I got my first turntable. Analogue means touching, holding, examining, move this to over there, plugging in/out, adjusting this knob and that lever, kicking back then getting up to flip the record or cassette, and sharing all that with your closest friends. It’s touch and tweak and it allows me to interact with the medium so much more than the digital domain. I find that kind of relationship more engaging and it fills me with a personal joy: a personal joy that others share as well. I love our community and I appreciate all that you put into making these videos possible. I’m a fan (from Chicago).

Agree 100% with your opinion of the record doctor. I bought a used one off eBay at least 15 years ago and haven’t looked back. It still does an amazing job and makes an audible difference on so many albums! Don’t feel the need to spend thousands on a fully automatic one.

Hi! A rookie from Lisbon, Portugal, here. Congrats on your channel and this series! I'm still here giving it a go with vinyl, so probably you should go for a part IV... Curiously, for me the scariest part is the cleaning (both records and stylus). There is so much stuff to take into acount, so many contradicting opinions, you don't actually know which way to go. A great vinyl toolkit video Bob. Loved it.
Speaking of regretted scratches.... In grade 11, circa 1983, my then girlfriend came over to listen to my vinyl of The Who's Tommy which we had watched the previous week (on betamax thank you very much).
We had a couple of refreshments and were really enjoying the album when Tina Turner's Gypsy Acid Queen came and and she got up and started dancing to the track.
At one point of the song she did a wild spin and broke her little finger on the side of my turntable causing the stylus to "sskWEEEaaaachktumPF" (never forget that noise) across the remainder of the track and bounce in to the label.
The biggest problem was she ended up POd AF at me for caring more about my turntable and record than her finger.
We ended up in the emergency room, my record was ruined and she and I broke up a few months later.
To this day she says Tina Turner broke her finger.
Brought that memory rushing back when you mentioned how we all have that one record.
I still use that ancient Pioneer turntable as well.

I kept my records outside of the sleeves for years, until i realized I was messing up my sleeves. They are designed to have a record in them. they get squashed without it. What I do to protect the vinyl is put those poly sleeves you use and line the printed inner sleeves or I replace unprinted ones with poly lined paper ones.

Great advice. Personal perspective on a couple of points. Firstly the anti-static sleeves are great and all very similar but none actually use rice paper. Even Mo-Fi have stopped claiming they have rice paper in their sleeves, but then they have turned over a new leaf of being honest recently! Secondly, I wouldn’t touch record weights with a bargepole due to the increased loading on the bearing. Also can’t be used on suspended sub-chassis turntables.

Thanks for the warnings man. I was going to buy a turn table then watched your videos. I have a few collectors type records that I tested out on a friend's player. He had a couple records that sounded pretty good. Not amazing, but pretty good. When I tested 3 of my own records, 1 of them was just OK, and 2 of them were terrible. It wasn't the player or the condition of the record. It was the transfer. It sounded like an extremely low bit rate digital mp3. Completely worthless and if my favorite bands are releasing these when their albums first come out, then I don't need to get into vinyl. Again, thanks. Even though I know you aren't really trying to stop people from getting into vinyl.

I love your vinyl series but I have to admit that I started getting out of vinyl in 1985 when my wife surprised me me with a Technics CD player in 1985. It was the cheapest one she could find at 300 bucks. I sold a ton of albums to buy CDs and started giving away more to my friends. I have a few left and my son wants most of them. I have a few bootleg albums that I bought when my ship was in Taiwan. 60 cents apiece. I feel bad for you Bob. My parents never hugged me or told me they loved me either. My mom hugged me and said she loved me the day I left for boot camp and I was shocked.

This is maybe an advanced intermediate class rather than something for a beginner. Going with record weights, record cleaning vacuums, and plastic wrapping your vinyl. I'm not so precious with my vinyl. Especially the covers. I don't put plastic around them. I want to experience them. Touch is important. And the plastic interferes with viewing the cover in all its glory. And there's also the art on the inside. So that's a no-go for me. I don't mind if there are slight signs of wear. Which I haven't noticed in any vinyl I have bought in the past few years. And losing one or so in 200 albums to scratching them while cleaning?! I don't think that's a given that one will scratch any vinyl at all.
Ultrasonic cleaners are supposed to work well, but I've heard not to use them more than once or twice in the lifespan of an album.
So I wouldn't say for someone starting out that vinyl is necessarily as expensive as you suggest. Getting someone up to your level, sure. But if someone just wants to spin vinyl, they can start small. Yes, vinyl will cost. But entry level gear can be had for not too much. That's how I started.

Expensive, only if you dont know what the hell you're buying.
Vintage paper sleeves Are softer than the modern paper sleeve, but I do Highly recommend poly rice paper sleeves regardless of the age of the paper sleeve.

I think it does for a host of reasons, but I'll just give you one. Bands make a lot more money out of album sales than Spotify streams. Buying albums is one of the best ways to contribute to a band. Since my buying vinyl helps bands survive in this streaming world, then it makes sense for me to continue doing so. How do you financially reward musicians?

Bobfather! Thank you for showing your vinyl expertise. We need to warn folks not to use the gooy sticky gel cleaners. They leave a residue on the stylus. I need USA swag. Let me know. You have my email.
