The Cortina is mine. Registered on 1st August 1978.
Bought on 11th August 1979 at 11,267 miles by my Mum and Dad when I was 10 years old. A few dsys later we went on holidays to Paignton in Devon hence why the 1879 Beano Summer Special ( yes my original) and a copy of a Daily Express from 15th August 1979 was in the Cortina.
I learned to drive in it and became mine on 29th July 1988 for my last year in University.
It came off the road in December 1990 at 110,000 miles as more and more welding was required for every MoT. In fact it required the first pair of sills in Feb 1983 - it was not even five years old.. The weather where I live in South Wales along with road salting is very harsh. The Cortina was always very well looked after but we just couldn't stop the rot. You'd be lucky to get a Cortina to last more than 10 years in my area.
The Cortina returned to the road in June 2014 and all panels sourced were genuine new old stock Ford. Every nut bolt and screw was removed and replated and the shell blasted. I even managed to source a new old stock vinyl roof - the original did actually survive a tour of the Monkey enclosure at Longleat Safari Park!
The Cortina lived its first life and is now living its second, and built a great deal better in South Wales than it was in Dagenham in June 1978!
It has now covered 113,000 miles and covered the 400 mile tound trip from South Wales to Lincolnshire on Saturday. 4 hours each way.
It holds so many memories of nicer times.
If I hadn't had done what I did to my Cortina it would not be here now.
The very next day the Cortina attended a fantastic local show Brynmawr.
The Cortina will be in the family for many many years to come and will be passed down the next generation.

That Nova saloon has had some work done - Vauxhall Flame Red becomes Vauxhall Dusky Pink after about 3 years in my experience

I used to remove wheels ever Sunday and polish the paired areas I did win two seconds and third in concourse I admire anyone who keeps their car pristine

Thank you. But I think it's something you can only get once because each year they have a completely different set of cars.
I have applied in each of the 2 years since and got nowhere.

The reliant Rialto uses headlamps from the facelift Austin Metro and indicators from a TVR....all partsbin stuff

Yugo's were great they just suffered from cheap car syndrome where people abused them and threw them away. Mechanical parts are not an issue - its mostly FIAT 127/128/Punto stuff
