This may be the greatest race of all time. Once Direct Route gets ahead on the run in that should be it but Edredon Bleu refuses to lose, partnered by that master of the close finish AP McCoy. Ultimately what won this race was that while the other two made mistakes towards the end Edredon nailed every fence. Brilliant stuff
you forget over time what a great jumper Edredon bleu was a combination of Heart ,ability , jumping and jockeymanship made this a truely great performance
I am sure Stormin Norman dropped one of his reins after the last - he did not really jump 3 or 2 out that well and i think if he did he would've been closer and Norman would not have had to use him up too ea!rly - one of the very best horses never to win the big one! great race
won a tingle creek and beat ED there -- Chelt not really his track -- so many very good horses fail at Chelt ... so many brilliant horses can only run on a flat track .. DR ran well at both but SO MUCH BETTER ON A FLAT track

McCoy never not engaging the hors’s attention.
Now tht is what u can call a finish after a 2 mile queen mother championship chase, 3 in a line jumping the last fence.

I loved Direct Route, but he never ran his best races at Cheltenham. He was a machine at Aintree though.

Edredon Bleu was ante-post favourite in 99 but didn't win.
