Thanks for always keeping it 💯. Retiring early without a plan is a real punch in the gut. Thanks again for sharing your experience and knowledge and journey.
Thank you I needed this because these times I am so stressed out about not being stable at all, in a foreign country, and hearing "it is okay" made me tear up a little bit, Love you !
Thanks for sharing. This is the first of your vids I've seen, so I'll look for others. Lots of what you said resonated with me. I've been living abroad for five years and still trying to find what will be my long-term home. Thailand is next on my list to scout for this purpose.
Hey sis! Your channel will become monetized very soon. Trust me! I'll be passing through Bangkok and Chiang Mai at the end of October. I've been living in Indonesia for the past 6 years. Would love to have a meet-up with you.
Thanks for this thoughtful video. I wonder to what extent were your feelings of being "stressed out" in Portugal due to economic changes in that country--rents/mortgages going much higher, changes in VISA processing, etc. Maybe, it's not all economic, but it's certainly one of those 'forces' along with social and cultural issues that create change in life.
Fortunately we left Portugal before all of the price craziness got out of hand. We were only one year into our three-year lease in Lisbon. We could see the changes coming, and we already thought value for money in Lisbon was questionable back then. We also didn't have to deal with any of the visa issues, as we got our visas in 2021, and left before having to renew our residency. The stress really was trying to convince ourselves to like it. Trying to figure out what was so great, because we simply didn't feel it. What we felt was a generalized apathy in the air. There seemed to be an undercurrent of unhappiness and hopelessness in the air. It was almost as if we had to gaslight ourselves to tolerate it. Thankfully we trusted our gut and moved on 😀
@@whatsupwkirsten Sometimes it's best to move on. No shame in it. I'm aware that many natives and 'others' are really struggling for a number of reasons and that might account for some of that 'free-floating' angst that you picked up on. I applaud you and Mark for being able to take stock of your situation and make decisions to better your lives.
@@Dena0726 Here's the thing. Everyone is struggling everywhere. We were priced out of our home city of San Diego. Is it sad? Yes. Were we going to sit around and complain about it? No. Were we going to settle and live somewhere we don't want to? No, although we know that may be a possibility in the future (but we hope not!). The world has been changing/evolving forever. Nothing stays the same. The key is figuring out how to roll with the changes.
Congrats on the years! Kirsten, how did gou kmow-know living living in TH hit the right spots? Different than Portugal which aas missing a few essential things? Very curious to hear process for finally saying yes! Or at least msking the decision even if temporary at the start. Thank you
Not near retirement but thinking of giving it all up in 5 years or less hope 53 wont be too late to start. want to use vacay time to vacay there and go to thai language school. Want to look into peace corp or teaching english
I will talk more about this in an upcoming video. Think about what you love about your life now, why you want to move abroad, and what you want your life to look like once you no longer have to work. It seems obvious, but it is so not obvious 😂 Stay tuned, and thanks for watching!
Thumbs up 👍 Kirsten

I am trying to mentally prepare myself for retirement (and potentially move to BKK) - any addl advice to gifs to a single female?
I'd benefit from this advice too! Are you planning to move within a few years? Sooner?
I like this question and would benefit as well...are you planning on moving to TH soon like in the next year or two? Or maybe sooner?
