This was my introduction to Dimash almost a year ago. I can't go a day without his music since. As a matter of fact, I seldom listen to anyone else now.
His Mother, in an interview, said he became increasingly despondent in phone calls, alone in China, with a coach and interpreter for weeks, couldn't speak the language, used to having his family and friends close at hand, the family became alarmed. His Father called the producers and told them he was flying in, and why, and he wanted to sit in the audience as a surprise. They were thrilled as everyone had noticed his change of spirit. The camera keeps showing his Dad, waiting for Dimash to recognize him, and finally he did !! That lit up face, beaming as he bounded off the stage grabbing his Dad in a bearhug and swinging him around captured everyone's heart !! His Mom said he told her if he knew his Dad was in the audience, he never would have been that cheeky !!

Hi Amy, Great reaction, This was Ep2 of 'Singer' 2017 a Chinese singing comp usually featuring only professional / established Chinese artists. Dimash was invited as the wildcard by the shows researchers following his success in his own country, there are 14 episodes (Dimash wasnt in ep11 as he was already through). This is a performance from the "I'm a Singer" contest in China. Already well-known, established performers take part in it. The audience is also not people from the street. There are singers, composers, producers in the hall. At a minimum, the viewer must have excellent hearing. A man flashes behind the scenes in the footage. This is his father, who unexpectedly came to Dimash's performance from Kazakhstan. You can catch the moment when Dimash saw him. This reaction of the audience is understandable. In China, this song is very famous, as is its first performer and copyright holder Vitas. Vitas filed a lawsuit after Dimash's speech, demanding compensation for copyright infringement. I don't know how it ended, but this is the only performance of this song by Dimash. Dimash surpassed Vitas in all respects.
This competition is called "The Singer" and was held in 2017 in China. For Dimash to perform this song his organisers had to agree with Vitas. He later performed this song only once more, if my memory is not wrong, in 2018. It's a pity that you didn't watch the video further. You would have learnt more about what Dimash is like. Dimash is singing in the 2017 Singer competition in China. I believe there were about 14 episodes and they can be found on UA-cam. The other competitors were all first class and the whole series is well worth seeing. There was a great camaraderie among the contestants and Dimash became great friends with several of them, especially Terry Lin. The Chinese Communist Party heaped other honors on him, notably 'Honorary Belt and Road Initiative Ambassador.' Kazakhstan is a participant in the initiative, which seeks to improve trade infrastructure in Asia by expanding road networks and ports. The song 'Opera 2' was written and first performed by Russian pop singer Vitas. Fun fact: each of those "howling" parts took roughly 25 seconds to sing before it increase modulated a halftone, at the end of the song he landed on D#6 as the base note, so... if he keeps on modulating to his (known) highest note, the song would become longer for another 9 - 10 minutes more!

I just watched Vitas perform this from 2009 or so. Dimash may have sung technically better and higher notes, but Vitas's theatrically on this song was way beyond Dimash. Dimash is Dimash and Vitas is Vitas. Whole different, and incomparable, vibe.

I like the more flirtatious approach that Dimash took with Opera 2. Vitas seems to have more swagger perhaps? I’m not sure what it is that makes me like Dimash more except perhaps his personality? I’m surprised no one has given Aymoonchild the background on The Singer show from 2017 since there are so many great performances from that show and so many of us began our journeys with Dimash watching different songs from that series in 2017. I 100% agree with you on stage presence and performance skills-I buy everything he sells. This was only the second performance night of the 2017 Chinese I AM SINGER competition, which is for singers with professional careers in China. In only a week, Dimash had amassed 900 million subscribers on Weibo (like Twitter) and needs security to go everywhere. This is a VERY popular #1 song in Russia and Asia written and performed by a Russian singer named Vitas-so the whole audience knows it AND they also know Dimash is singing it better, and with more key changes at the end. The reaction of the audience, and of the other contestants, is the reason that my favorite version of "SOS d'un terrien en detresse" by Dimash remains the one he did for this same show in 2017. That was not only Dimash's first performance on that show, it was his first performance in China, and also the very first song in the first episode of the show for 2017. Following that performance, Dimash became a superstar in China. The very next day, they had to get him bodyguards. "Opera 2" was Dimash's second performance on the show (episode 2.)

Love your reaction. Totally agree with everything you say. I so love this guy. He gives much such pure joy and happiness. You definitely need to watch the full version with English subtitles when he doesn’t know his dad is there and watch to the end. You think you are in love with him now?? That will increase your love and respect 10 fold. Also, for your own pleasure watch some of his interviews. He played with the audience because he knew that they were familiar with Vita’s version and he knew he was going to blow Vita’s out of the water. So even though it was originally a sad song this is one time he didn’t really take any notice of the lyrics, just had fun. He said if he had known his dad was there he would not have been so cheeky.

I have been enjoying the amazing and unmatched talent, creativity, unique and fan-focused Dimash now for a couple of years, when I first came across a reactor assessing one of his performances. I like when you used the word “charismatic“ to describe Dimash, because he certainly is charismatic, and has remained so from my first time seeing him in the 2017 competition The Singer, that this performance is from. The Singer is a Chinese singing competition, which features Chinese performers of all ages, but who already have professional careers, so very different from American Idol, X-Factor, The Voice, etc. where the people auditioning are not supposed to be professional performers … but rather someone looking for discovery or a break. Although he has been singing most of his life, in 2017 Dimash was gaining notoriety in his adjacent country of Kazakhstan and also Russia. The producers of The Singer, invited him to compete on the show, as a “wild card“. Everyone else that 2017 season was a Chinese. professional. Although he sings in many languages, he is not fluent in all of them, but he learns enough to sing a song in a particular language. Unfortunately Dimash had a bit of a language barrier because he did not speak Cantonese or Mandarin. However he quickly learned a few phrases and immersed himself more in Mandarin, so that he could better connect with his fellow contestants and to the Chinese audience. Unlike all of the other major competition singing shows, you see that there is not a panel of judges making decisions. At the end of each night, the Chinese audience votes on their favorites, and the top singers move on to the next round. This is the show where Dimosh started becoming an international sensation, one reason being the share number of people in China watching the show, and they, like us, we’re all dazzled and amazed. Dimash was 22 at the time of this competition, which is why he looks younger than in later videos. By the end of the show, Demarsh had come in 2nd place. Everyone felt he should have won, but it would not have been a good luck for China to have a foreigner win their big competition show. Sandy Lim, who you will see them focus on backstage in many of his performances, ended up being the winner. This was my introduction to Dimash almost a year ago. I can't go a day without his music since. As a matter of fact, I seldom listen to anyone else now.
His Mother, in an interview, said he became increasingly despondent in phone calls, alone in China, with a coach and interpreter for weeks, couldn't speak the language, used to having his family and friends close at hand, the family became alarmed. His Father called the producers and told them he was flying in, and why, and he wanted to sit in the audience as a surprise. They were thrilled as everyone had noticed his change of spirit. The camera keeps showing his Dad, waiting for Dimash to recognize him, and finally he did !! That lit up face, beaming as he bounded off the stage grabbing his Dad in a bearhug and swinging him around captured everyone's heart !! His Mom said he told her if he knew his Dad was in the audience, he never would have been that cheeky !!

So Dimash challenged his idol audience and raised the tone of the song four times, breaking the previous version into pieces. And on the video you can see that he's preparing a surprise, a sly expression and mischievous smile of Dimash, as if to say - Well, what? He just pulled the fans of Vitas to himself with ease 🤣✌
Hi Amy, Great reaction, This was Ep2 of 'Singer' 2017 a Chinese singing comp usually featuring only professional / established Chinese artists. Dimash was invited as the wildcard by the shows researchers following his success in his own country, there are 14 episodes (Dimash wasnt in ep11 as he was already through). This is a performance from the "I'm a Singer" contest in China. Already well-known, established performers take part in it. The audience is also not people from the street. There are singers, composers, producers in the hall. At a minimum, the viewer must have excellent hearing. A man flashes behind the scenes in the footage. This is his father, who unexpectedly came to Dimash's performance from Kazakhstan. You can catch the moment when Dimash saw him. This reaction of the audience is understandable. In China, this song is very famous, as is its first performer and copyright holder Vitas. Vitas filed a lawsuit after Dimash's speech, demanding compensation for copyright infringement. I don't know how it ended, but this is the only performance of this song by Dimash. Dimash surpassed Vitas in all respects.
This competition is called "The Singer" and was held in 2017 in China. For Dimash to perform this song his organisers had to agree with Vitas. He later performed this song only once more, if my memory is not wrong, in 2018.
It's a pity that you didn't watch the video further. You would have learnt more about what Dimash is like. When he thanks the audience and then his gaze falls on a certain person.... Check this out.

There was a great camaraderie among the contestants and Dimash became great friends with several of them, especially Terry Lin. Sandy ham, the eventual winner, and Lion Band, who were third behind Dimash, are well worth checking out.

One of his performances in the "I am a singer" contest in China 2017. He was 22 years old and the youngest of the contestants.
The original artist that created this song was a guy named Vita after this performance from Dimash, Vita stopped Dimash from ever performing the song again. Great reaction as usual.
Most of the reactions in this video were competitors. The show was the 2017 edition of 'I Am a Singer,' a show with significant differences from Western talent shows on TV. The singers are all professionals, not amateurs, already well-known to Chinese audiences. There are twelve episodes in a season (I think), and each singer presents a song in each episode. Dimash didn't win in 2017. Why he did not isn't entirely clear to me. I've read several comments on other reaction channels which suggest that he stepped aside to allow a Chinese singer to take top honors; others have suggested that the show would only allow a Chinese singer to win.
Regardless, Dimash's showing in 2017 in China marked his transition from a regional star to a world-wide star. His performances, especially 'SOS' and 'Opera 2,' went viral. The Chinese Communist Party heaped other honors on him, notably 'Honorary Belt and Road Initiative Ambassador.' Kazakhstan is a participant in the initiative, which seeks to improve trade infrastructure in Asia by expanding road networks and ports.
The song 'Opera 2' was written and first performed by Russian pop singer Vitas. Here is the version I ran into, many years ago, with English lyrics.

Fun fact: each of those "howling" parts took roughly 25 seconds to sing before it increase modulated a halftone, at the end of the song he landed on D#6 as the base note, so... if he keeps on modulating to his (known) highest note, the song would become longer for another 9 - 10 minutes more!

I just watched Vitas perform this from 2009 or so. Dimash may have sung technically better and higher notes, but Vitas's theatrically on this song was way beyond Dimash. Dimash is Dimash and Vitas is Vitas. Whole different, and incomparable, vibe.

I like the more flirtatious approach that Dimash took with Opera 2. Vitas seems to have more swagger perhaps? I’m not sure what it is that makes me like Dimash more except perhaps his personality? I’m surprised no one has given Aymoonchild the background on The Singer show from 2017 since there are so many great performances from that show and so many of us began our journeys with Dimash watching different songs from that series in 2017. I 100% agree with you on stage presence and performance skills-I buy everything he sells. This was only the second performance night of the 2017 Chinese I AM SINGER competition, which is for singers with professional careers in China. In only a week, Dimash had amassed 900 million subscribers on Weibo (like Twitter) and needs security to go everywhere.
This is a VERY popular #1 song in Russia and Asia written and performed by a Russian singer named Vitas-so the whole audience knows it AND they also know Dimash is singing it better, and with more key changes at the end. It was so good that Vitas will not allow Dimash to perform it anymore.

The reaction of the audience, and of the other contestants, is the reason that my favorite version of "SOS d'un terrien en detresse" by Dimash remains the one he did for this same show in 2017. That was not only Dimash's first performance on that show, it was his first performance in China, and also the very first song in the first episode of the show for 2017. Following that performance, Dimash became a superstar in China. The very next day, they had to get him bodyguards. "Opera 2" was Dimash's second performance on the show (episode 2.)

Love your reaction. Totally agree with everything you say. I so love this guy. He gives much such pure joy and happiness. You definitely need to watch the full version with English subtitles when he doesn’t know his dad is there and watch to the end. You think you are in love with him now?? That will increase your love and respect 10 fold. Also, for your own pleasure watch some of his interviews. He played with the audience because he knew that they were familiar with Vita’s version and he knew he was going to blow Vita’s out of the water. So even though it was originally a sad song this is one time he didn’t really take any notice of the lyrics, just had fun. He said if he had known his dad was there he would not have been so cheeky.

I have been enjoying the amazing and unmatched talent, creativity, unique and fan-focused Dimash now for a couple of years, when I first came across a reactor assessing one of his performances.
I like when you used the word “charismatic“ to describe Dimash, because he certainly is charismatic, and has remained so from my first time seeing him in the 2017 competition The Singer, that this performance is from.
The Singer is a Chinese singing competition, which features Chinese performers of all ages, but who already have professional careers, so very different from American Idol, X-Factor, The Voice, etc. where the people auditioning are not supposed to be professional performers … but rather someone looking for discovery or a break.
Although he has been singing most of his life, in 2017 Dimash was gaining notoriety in his adjacent country of Kazakhstan and also Russia. The producers of The Singer, invited him to compete on the show, as a “wild card“. Everyone else that 2017 season was a Chinese. professional. Although he sings in many languages, he is not fluent in all of them, but he learns enough to sing a song in a particular language. Unfortunately Dimash had a bit of a language barrier because he did not speak Cantonese or Mandarin. However he quickly learned a few phrases and immersed himself more in Mandarin, so that he could better connect with his fellow contestants and to the Chinese audience.
Unlike all of the other major competition singing shows, you see that there is not a panel of judges making decisions. At the end of each night, the Chinese audience votes on their favorites, and the top singers move on to the next round. This is the show where Dimosh started becoming an international sensation, one reason being the share number of people in China watching the show, and they, like us, we’re all dazzled and amazed. Dimash was 22 at the time of this competition, which is why he looks younger than in later videos.
By the end of the show, Demarsh had come in 2nd place. Everyone felt he should have won, but it would not have been a good luck for China to have a foreigner win their big competition show. Sandy Lim, who you will see them focus on backstage in many of his performances, ended up being the winner.
Dimash returned to The Singer the next year in 2018 as a guest performer, to entertain and thank the audience with a stunning performance of the original Lionel Richie composition, “Hello”, but with the usual Dimash spin, making it his own. If you haven’t reacted to that yet, you should definitely put it on your radar.
Unfortunately, the host/announcer in the red sports coat at the beginning of one of Dimash’s most popular performances “Sinful Passion“, tells everyone at the beginning before Dimosh starts performing, that Dimash won the Chinese contest, and now that I know the truth, it makes me cringe every time I watch the video and hear him get it wrong and continue to spread misinformation. And that is how rumors are spread. To my knowledge, no one ever corrected him publicly and many, many, many viewers and reactors still refer to that clip saying how amazing it was that Dimash won the Chinese competition. Once it is out on the Internet, it is hard to correct.
Even though I have seen all of Dimash’s performances, except for his most recently released material, due to your charismatic nature, I am re-watching them all over again with your charming comments and insight. Again, your personality, demeanor and attractiveness put you at the top of my list of favorite reactors. In a strange turn-of - events, this 64-year old gay man, who has recently retired to a small town in the central part of Kansas where I grew up (after a 45-year residence in Dallas, where I moved to right after high school in Kansas), now has a big fan crush on you ha ha.

The original artist of this song was Vitas..he only goes up one octive though, while Dimash goes up 3🤯🤯😱 The original artist was also very upset about Dimash preforming his song and there was a dispute about it🤔🤔 I wonder why..could it be Dimash was better🤣🤣🤣 There is also great comments about Dimash on this talent show stating “just when you thought you were having a bad day, just think, someone has to sing after Dimash” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Nice reaction Aymoonchild, now I advise you to react to Daybreak but both version starting with 2017 the singer to know the story behind this song and what happened to Dimash during this episode then you have to react to Bastau version 2017.
Das spezielle an dem Song ist, dass der Song an sich in China sehr bekannt ist durch Vitas, der original Sänger dieses Liedes. Dimash hat das Publikum dennoch überrascht, erstens mit der Art wie er das Lied präsentiert hat und auch damit, dass er am Ende zwei Mal höher ging als es im original Lied vorgesehen ist.
Das kann man auch jedem einzelnen Gesicht im Publikum ansehen 😄
Just a follow up. I mentioned before that you should listen to Dimash's new version of ( Stranger, Shne! Super Brothers S2), WOW, even if you don't react to it on your site, it is well worth listening to it.
Please react to the intro "The story behind Daididau" (Singer 2017) but the song is better than reacting to Dimash's concert version in Bastau, it's the most emotional and spectacular 🙂
