I too am utterly captivated by this more minimalist, slower acoustic version Colin made in a slower tempo and lower register. Strangely, I remember buying this in 1986 together with a new album by Tom Verlaine. Although he was so much more than this one song, this is a timeless classic. Bless you Colin Vearncombe. My sincere condolences to his family and friends on his passing. A true great indeed. Thank you.

He wrote Wonderful Life whilst homeless. He later shared in his biography that he struggled to write a song to the heights of Wonderful Life and judged all his other songs by that standard. Then along came Everything’s Coming Up Roses. Ripped from this cruel world far too early.

En live on peut réellement apprecier une voix à sa juste mesure. Celle-ci est chaude, généreuse et puissante à la fois. Et le timbre est tres beau. Un pur délice pour les oreilles ce morceau unplugged.

Musician Colin Vearncombe, known as Black, has died after suffering head injuries in a car accident.The singer, from Liverpool, who had a global hit in 1987 with Wonderful Life, suffered swelling on his brain in a crash on Sunday January 10 near Cork Airport.The 53-year-old had been in intensive care since then.His death was announced on his Facebook page with the simple message: "Colin Vearncombe. 26/5/1962-26/1/2016. You'll never walk alone".Black had been due to become a grandfather on St Patrick's Day with the expected birth of his eldest son's child.The crash occurred as he drove on his own from his home in Schull, west Cork, to catch a flight from Cork to Edinburgh for a songwriting trip.Best known for 1980s singles Sweetest Smile and Wonderful Life, Black released 15 albums under his own name and also published poetry and staged exhibitions of his paintings in Ireland, where he lived for more than 10 years.

Wow. This is brilliant. His voice is much more matured here. Fantastic version of this classic.
Katie Melua's version is sung very much like Colin is singing it. I like this, I think Katie Meluar did a great job on it.
