The bull red run in texas really turns on in November last year in November on the south jetties I caught 35 bull reds in total in the span of like 4 fishing trips
Been a channel member for along time. Love all your videos. Love what you do. Inspires me to go try but I live 2 hours north of Galveston so I can't make the trip as much as I would like too
I remember back in the 70’s and 80’s my father and I, and occasionally friends, would fish at the Lighted Pier at the end of the dike. Whatever legal catch we would land, we typically opened them up to check for parasites. If we detected a lot of parasites, I mean like spaghetti, we would toss them back into the water, rather than keep them. Drum, Sheephead, Speckle Trout, whatever. More often times than not, occasionally there were families that lived around Texas Ave and 6th Street areas, and we would give them the parasite infested fish. They snatched them up quick. We definitely transformed a lot of local families into happy families for sure. Tackle Time was a big time event back then as well. People would display their proud catches, and sometimes walk over to the Holiday Inn that was at the entrance of Texas City Dike, go to the bar, and get hammered afterwards. I really enjoy your videos. Talk about the memories… 🍺🍺
I caught 15 reds all 23 to 27in a small new marsh area that I found it’s connected to a large marsh but separated by a levy that you have to go around through a shallow water access . The big boats have no chance at getting in there. Absolutely loaded but would not touch any lure I threw at them. So I cast netted finger mullet. I had a popping cork set up already rigged so I hooked them on that setup and it worked phenomenally. First time putting mullet under a popping cork but will definitely be doing it again.
I’m sorry, unfortunately I don’t. Best I can say is have tons of patience and eventually they’ll bite. Always use fresh bait and let it soak for an hour before reeling back in. Happy birthday 🤙.
Hey dude I like your attitude love that measurement tape you make BUT I THINK YOU NEED A third pole for trowing SPOON OR other tipe of lures to help out or pass the Time you never know
His rod tip is literally bent all the way down nope I think I missed it. I think it’s just been caught on the bottom the whole time I’ve been reeling it in and the rod has been bent.
Nice place to fish, just back your truck up. That's about as good as it gets, imo? I pulled it up & know where it's at but I've never seen anyone fishing it until now. It's setup to back in & get down to business. Can't beat that when you don't have to kart your crap out to a fishing spot. Thanks for the info.... peace
I'm a native Texan up in north central but I lived over in Pt Author/Groves long enough to fish the Neaches River from fresh water down to the Sabine Pass. I've been all along HWY87 on the beach & they've never fixed it from hurricanes long ago. I pulled up the "Dike" & saw how nice it was to back right in & thought what a perfect deal for fishing. I don't blame you one bit, no where to carry stuff. Leave it & work off the back of the truck w/o the need to tote your sH!Te out a pier or away from the parking area. I like it & thanks for the video.... I'll remember this place if I get down there. It's too perfect & minimal effort to fish.... peace
Throw a good article and catch flounder from the rocks. I caught a 22 inch once and gave a lure to a dude next to me. He caught a good one right after me. Or like Mark says just soak bait.
@MDLRFishing thank you and @moblack5883 for the response. I'm sure you cut all that out for the video shorter time slot.. just always curious what yall do for 6 hours in between the great runs and break offs. :) yall rock!!
@MDLRFishing but hey if you get as much as you can and i get as much as i can, we will eventually get people in the right mind there. Monkey see monkey do if you will. We need to bring back public shaming over things like this
I think it’s a shame on how much trash you can find on the ground next to the trashcan. Although ever since the fee was started to fish the dike it is a little cleaner out there. I have been fishing the Dike for over 40 years now and wouldn’t tradethe the Dike for anything.
idk if anyone has ever said it but you are the cleanest fisherman ive seen. You can tell you take good care of all your things.
Thanks 👍
That’s how it should be

Hopefully I’ll get lucky this month.
Great video, we always make it a point to leave a spot cleaner than we found it. Always informative and entertaining
Thanks! It’s the right thing to do.
Way to go. Despise the trash. Complete neglect of our natural resource areas. Thanks for doing that. We do the same on the beach.
It’s a problem everywhere, and it’s just common sense to pack out what you pack in.
@@MDLRFishingWe were thier Tuesday morning from 5:30 am to Noon and Nothing!! 🤦🏾♂️ Same Location 🤷🏾
I love your videos and I really like how you explain your fishing leader for those of us who are just starting out fishing.
Glad I can help out, hope you land some big ones!
Marine Corps calls it policing up his area, old habits are hard to break! Semper Fi Brother! Happy Birthday Marines, 249th!!

Thanks for your support! Hopefully you can get out here soon 👍
Love your channel! Especially the fact you leave the area better than you found it!❤ I'm not far from there and we been planning on going. I'm excited
Glad you like the channel. Best of luck when y’all get out there!
Good things will come to those who wait 💪🎣
🙌
Great, fun and relaxing
It really is!
What an incredible fish!!!
It was a good day, for sure! 👍

@@MDLRFishing It really was…. 👍🏻
Very nice. Nothing like catching three feet of badass, unless it's four feet of seriously badass.
😂🙌

Where at👀
That's a great idea with the popping cork! Live bait is the best 🤙.
@@xPoTenTz yeah spill the beans!
@@xPoTenTz near the mouth of new bayou in chocolate bay can’t explain where that marsh is pretty big.
@@JohnSmith-kz1llyou have coordinates?
I’ve been fishing Crystal Beach for a couple of years and I have caught more small sharks this year than I have my entire life.
We’re infested with them 😅
I was there this morning 5-9 am fresh live crab with buddy, 6 rods not one bite
You’ll get them next time. 👍
Put a float(small spook) near your bait line catfishing. Keeps bait off the bottom.
That’s a great idea. 👍
Great content keep it up
I appreciate it! 👍
Always enjoy your content . Say Mark ,how far is Texas City Dike from where you live ?
Not to far, maybe 35 minutes.
October Halloween monsters, pretty scary lol
😂
First comment, awesome content Mark!
Thank you 🙏
What oz spider weight do you use on your 9ft rod?
4 oz
Great video Mark, you should do a Catch and cook a shark video.
Shark fritters 😎
Do you do charters or something like that bcuz my bday is coming up and i was wondering if you do those

That’s my main appeal to the Dike. Very easy to setup and fish 🎣

Whats the secret to cast netting without getting snagged?
Don’t let the net go all the way down and hit the rocks. 👍
👍👍👍
🤙
Dumb question. Is there nothing you can lure fish or closer fish while waiting for the run this time of the year out at TX City?
Most people will use live or fresh dead shrimp for croaker, flounder and speckled trout.
Throw a good article and catch flounder from the rocks. I caught a 22 inch once and gave a lure to a dude next to me. He caught a good one right after me. Or like Mark says just soak bait.

They still charge $20 at the entrance I went a few months ago. It use to be $10.
if you go on week days its free I believe
Still $10 to my knowledge.
Mark, what is the difference between a 'red' and a 'bull red'; are they the same species or simply differentially categorized due to weight?
Same fish just different sizes!
Texas categorizes it as a bull when they reach 28” and bigger.
people are just horrible leaving trash just lazy. thanks mark
🙏
Mark have you ever had people ask you if they could have the oversized fish you caught, I hate when they would ask me
It's happened a few times, but I always say they are for catch and release.
Just started my channel. Hopefully, I can great content like mdlr. I appreciate the knowledge, time, and effort put in these videos.
Thanks for watching and good luck on the channel!
The trash is crazy, and the amount right next to a trash can almost seems like they do it on purpose to make our state look like trash. 🤦♂️
I’m always embarrassed how we’re perceived by out-of-staters. People love taking our resources and can’t even clean up after themselves.
@MDLRFishing but hey if you get as much as you can and i get as much as i can, we will eventually get people in the right mind there. Monkey see monkey do if you will. We need to bring back public shaming over things like this

How much is it to get in?
No charge this day, toll booth was gone.
