- St. John's Newfoundland January 17th Blizzard 2020
80+cm snow, 100+ kph winds, Extreme conditions.
Video shows storm as it strengthens, rages and then the cleanup i nthe East end of St John's.
Much more fun than COVID.
Visibility has left the chat.
This comment made me lol, thank you.
Just another day in Canada :)
I was in the hospital and snowmageddon started put into a medically induced coma, then I got out when snowmageddon was over. I missed all the excitement!!!
From nothing to almost 3 ft fell in 24 hours absolutely amazing along with 100 km plus winds. City was shut down for one full week even though we have some of the best snowclearing equipment in North America on hand. Storm of a lifetime.
So there was nothing on the ground prior?
@@rogersimpson8871very little
I like how most people in town just wanna use a shovel or a tiny walk behind blower
But this guy has a 20hp Kubota.. he's the one who's prepared!!
Prepared or not, people use what they can afford.
@@zfilmmaker Thats a bit of a stretch... Most people on a street like that just don't allocate enough funds for snow removal, they just hope for a light winter and spend there money on fancy vehicles or toys and Lord knows what else
Living downtown during this was hell, place was twice as bad as this because of far less room. Hoping we never see this again
Eu teria morrido.
Those few days in a year where you really get to enjoy getting your car stuck and have fun to remove all that snow, and it ain't coming back after 100 years because of global warming.
I'm JEALOUS I WANT SNOW!!!!
I needed to shovel this for 8 hours do you want that
The snow its not whats bad about canada, its the -45•C that really sucks
Like the Tacoma 👍. Nice video work of the during storm ⛈ and clean up
Wow that's alot of snow..great job filming 👍
The road my apartment was on was practically one lane until mid March, it got widened like 4 days before MUN closed due to Covid
As much as it can suck, I'd find it very boring without the yearly Snow.
And today, January 3rd, 2023, St. John’s has “zero” snow. It looks like that all the snow fell off in 2020.
The anniversary is not far off 😬
Will we be better prepared?
I know I will be! Stay safe peoples.
" PANAMA RELOCATION TOURS!! WITH JACKIE!!🙋😊 👍❤👈"
I'm glad I had no school on that day
It's beginning to look a lot like, fuck that.
great video steve well done
the unforgetable memory , never seen that much of snow!!!
That is a typical winter in Newfoundland
This snowstorm on the Avalon Peninsula last winter was definitely not "typical." It was all-time record breaking.
Was a great time to be a Newfoundlander
I’m in Pennsylvania. Would’ve loved to have had snow like that. We’ve had nothing, literally, over the past 3 Winters. I understand this Winter is going to make up for it but we will see. Great video. Thanks for sharing. 😷🤘
Thanks for your interest. After all the snow last winter rabbits walked over my 4' protective fences and ate my fruit trees. Today Ive added two more feet of wire mesh to the top - hope it will keep the rascals out this winter. Cheers!
@@twiglane nice looking beefy kubota there the nf kubota tractor from good ole darcy
Not much better here in the UK. Every winter since 2013/14 has been mild except for 2017/18, it's been really frustrating especially as we had some really snowy winters between 2009-13.
Ah yes... sbowmageddon. When my brother in law told me to go outside and shovel a little bit at a time so there was less to shovel when it was done. Smh
I’ve been in a blizzard before when I lived in Pennsylvania awhile back. No fun
This was my birthday- I remember this-
I lost power for over two days lol was not fun
You probably had lot of fun with that BX
i was worried for us but shit this
That was terrifying because I like their In the country but it was fun because how deep the snow was
Calgary has been getting some pretty bad snow storms to. I mean not as bad as you guys but man they had a couple days where the cloud just doesn’t move and they get dumped on
i agre it is a lot of fun and it is a lot of snow and i wis i cold be yousing the eqipment i mean i alredy now haw to drive it since i was 10 yersold.
I want a blizzard like that.
You truly don't.
This storm brought our city to a hault. As a strong community we banded together to make it through and worked together to manage the challenges that came with so much snow.
After the initial storm, lots of people made the best of the situation and enjoyed the snow-some may have even enjoyed those several days off from work/school.
However, when I say our city shut down-it shut down. People were snowed in their homes, some without enough food or power. Prescription medications could not be refilled for several days as pharmacys were closed and for those who may have been in an abusive/unsafe home environment at the time likely had no escape for at least a few days while the snow was cleared. People woth menral health issues struggled with the loss of routine and structure in their day and restricted coping mechanisms. Going to socialize or for a walk became very difficult, if not impossible.
Many people were stuck at their workplace for an extended period of time because they were both unable to get home through the snow, and their coworkers unable to get in. Animal shelters needed to have people there to care for the animals, the hospitals and emergency services were relying on people pulling extra long shifts.
All in all, everyone who worked during this time was under more pressure then normal.
I worked for a department store at the time and remember the line to get inside the first day it was open after several days of it being closed was outrageous. We ran out of things like bread and eggs, and other food items were quickly cleared out.
My real point is that while the pictures and videos present some impressive and jaw-dropping amounts of snow and wind, for those who had to work, live, and deal with it all it was stressful.
So perhaps you should wish for what we in Newfoundland consider an average amount of snow.
Stay safe and take care through the pandemic, its certainly worse then "Snowmageddon 2020."
@@existwitheverything What kind of person doesn't have more than 3 days of food in their home? Abusive homes don't get better when the weather does. There were also some of the people that enjoyed the quiet from problem neighbors not being able to get out and bother them. And some of those stuck working overtime found it to be a blessing for their finances and were very grateful for the opportunity. Disruptions for a few days at a time is what makes life worth living. A dull routine that never has any changes can lead to boredom, apathy, carelessness, and depression.
@@hungryjack8032 it was longer than 3 days. The entire city was shut down and in a state of emergency for over 2 weeks. Even after the SOE was lifted due to the severity of the weather we were unable to receive food shipments, leaving grocery stores almost barren when everything did finally start slowly reopening. It was so bad people were bartering and trading non essential supplies for essential supplies with their neighbors and community members. No joke, people were in the streets trading cigarettes and liquor for bread and butter.
We called it "Snowmageddon" for a reason.
I live in Maine and a storm like this is rare even here. 2013 there was a blizzard that dumped 24-32 inches across Maine but the wind was nowhere as powerful as what went on in Newfoundland.
Lotta OT!! go get it!!
Y couldn’t the North peninsula get this😫😫
The drift on my lawn in Southlands was over 8 feet high! And the snow in the street at the end of my driveway prior to any plows coming through was about 5 feet high. What a mess.
Reminds me of the movie Krampus
No amount of screech makes that any easier on folks.
It is good that i have subaru with awd when this happends in sweden :)
Do you have a 4 foot lift on it?
I think the little kabota would be useless in these conditions I would think it would be hard on the poor little bugger
Still better than shovelling!
It’s bigger then you think this thing could lift a car
i drove to work and was the only person on the road of course it was closed so i went home again
Lol
Do you drive a Sherpa?
@@eport6169 98 ram baby!! only 2 wheel drive but the half tone of snow in the back helped. i did pass a Subaru spinning in the inttesection of kenmount and the donovans turn off

Winter 2019-2020 was in middle Europe without snow....
I think everywhere but Newfoundland was without snow that winter. Even the US had one of their warmest winters on record.
@Syver Bertilrud You're taking me a little too literally. Obviously Central Northern America is still gonna get snow. Just the places with more changeable winters all seemed to have a very mild winter.
1:42 is so cool to see.
if this was 78 cm, where I used to ski in vermont got 42 inches, can't imagine how they dug out from that
It all depends on the wind, if there is t much wind it won’t drift up very much.
@@jordanpayne6838 generally snow totals dont include drifts... so that's got nothing to do with it really
@@airsoftsnipes100 it’s a lot harder to dig out when you have a 10 foot tall drift in your driveway from the 100kmh+ winds than is to dig out from an even 42 inches everywhere. Also, snow packs together a lot harder in high vs no wind.
Hello
Nice taco
Awesome job man.. I want this again this year :)
No.
What a catastrophe. This planet was never designed for the human species.
Aanndddd that’s y we’re alive and not burning and is the only planet with air and the only planet with life in this solar system (besides Venus but they ain’t walking or talking)
Canada: That's cute
This is Canada?
Cool
...unlike Toronto, St-John's didn't have to rely on the Armed Forces. It wasn't deep enough yet. They know storms.
That was 20 years ago, let it go.
@@Sebastian_Dinwiddie ..... too soon??!!! LOL
Like it or not, it is part of history. Not my fault they called in the Army. But they did. Now we can joke about it cause it is funny and sad at the same time. Cheers!
The military was called in after a couple of days. They, along with some volunteers, targeted clearing snow from the personal properties of the elderly, infirm, and others in need of special assistance. The city was kept busy trying to open roads and then keep them open. It wasn't easy but most people made the best of it.
Much better with the volume turned OFF! 🤦♂️ Seriously what’s the point of it...
Great video but without music it would be better 😉😬 🙏
I don't know what to say about that...
It’s sad now there’s not even any snow all we are getting is rain
