After we got our Italian citizenship, we went to Calabria (Luzzi, Acri, Rende) to see the lands where my grandparents & now cousins live. Each cousin was a twin to our American family... exact! Everyone talks about the coastal area BUT, the mountains 🏔 are spectacular. It is so worth staying in the little, supremely CLEAN mountain Albergos & hotels, We were welcomed like royalty everywhere. The mountains take your breath away, like the tiny perched villages which stand as a monument to a past that remains Southern 🇮🇹 history always. I love the coastal area too. But, the mountains will always have my heart ❤️
The mountains are indeed spectacular, and as you say, there are so many villages with rich history nestled amongst them. The coastlines have perhaps gotten more publicity as Italians tend to favor the beach for their summer vacations, but the mountains certainly are a match for beauty, and there's nothing like that fresh crisp, fresh mountain air. Your visit sounds wonderful!
@@Karens-Travel -In fairness, when the summer sun ☀️ bakes the villages town squares in July, a sojourn to the beach offers a cool respite. Both places offer the hidden joys of Southern Italy.
