Want a full tutorial on arches? If so, I can make it happen. Let me know!
Unfortunately, Q has decided to quarantine in home, so he won’t be with us to finish out the rest of this build.. It’s a bummer, but we respect his choice to do so!
Who’s ready for a roof?
BANG ON!
what happen to fox?
Yes, we want a tutorial of arches please
Yes plz
We just took layoffs from our employers. Ontario's looking pretty rough. Lumber yards buttoning up, concrete isn't being poured for us. Lot of local contractors are stopping work. :/
Stay safe, Matt. Build's looking beautiful so far!
Yes I’d like to see that
That wall walk at 25:00.... NOPE! :) Loving watching this build. Don't know how I missed this one.
I watch this channel from up in western Canada. I work in industrial construction and know nothing about house building. We are about to get shut down from covid19 any day now, so I’ll be watching more videos from you. Stay safe down there America!!
Yes Matt, a tutorial on arches would be great. Those arches you installed looked perfect and what a nice, snug fit! The delivery guy sure knows how to maneuver that truck! See you on the roof!
Matt and the team awesome job guys. Thanks for this series, your videos keep my sanity during this 2 wk quarantine period. I am really fascinated with construction and the tools. Nothing beats your precision and productivity. Much respect!
When Covid hit most of my clients canceled work.... right after I took out a big business loan. Ouch! But I persisted and survived not only Covid but also my business. Now I'm booked for the rest of the summer and then some. I hope you and your family fared well during the difficult times.
Those drone shots are money.
Man. Walking on the top plate like that is impressive !! lol
Another banger, you guys stay safe and see you tomorrow for the roof
One of the coolest channels I've come across in a hot min. Keep banging Matt
Good and useful video, please do a tutorial video showing how to lay out various arch’s in the real world setting. Keep up the great work and stay healthy, cheers.
bad ass. very clean. at the end of the day a good old bubble level, string line, and tape measure the possibilites are endless. keep on rolling brotha.
Same here
keep trucking
till they show up....
Its 4 in our crew
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Love your guys pace, not too frantic still very productive. I could definitely work for you guys!🤘
“Give me a place to stand, and a lever long enough, and I will move the world. ” - Archimedes
Took his time and made it clean. Definitely looking good.
Bang on Brother 🤘
Hope you guys stay safe. Always remember the grandparents.
Matt to be completely honest my pops still goes back and checks my work . And I do the same with my sons work . I have had the joy of working with my father sense I was 13 . And my son has wet work my son for a couple years now . It’s nice to see the family vibe on another crew . Keep up the good work and great videos.
Bro yes! Would love a full blown arch tutorial 🤙🏽
Thank you, Matt, for showing how you cut and installed them Arches. I just may use your idea for my home in Santa Cruz CA.
Go Banana Slugs
Go Ryobi go, you can do it little fella. The jigsaw that could.
Love watching your videos and following all of your work. Bang on brother ✌✌
Matt, you're the Man! I enjoy watching your videos. I learn everytime something new. Keep up the good work!
great video! turnbuckle from foundation guys for pluming wall great time saver.
Amazing work outstanding mate 🙂👍✌
Looking good bro and I love how ya old man checks your plumb 🤣🤣🤣 so good
Great episode Matt! That was one of your finest work
Will you share the installation of the door and windows in the arches ?
Great work!
Love the work you do man. Quality an efficent. I would like to work with you guys. Wish I could find a couple more young guys that want to learn an work like yall. I'm a contractor in south Louisiana. Keep up the work an videos man great content!! The best on UA-cam. House is looking good btw. Stay safe out there.
Absolutely beautiful arches, we also are cranking away here in Florida, all the dealerships near us are closing and even our parts warehouses are shutting down but since we are "Essential" workers we have to just take the risk, still getting paid so I'm ok with it keep banging on 🔨
Good job and stay safe out there bro. We got shut down up here, but it’s apparently okay if you have a crews that less than 6. Lol
I had to stop and say at 26is you can lay out rafters on the plates while they are still on the ground.
Great work.
Without a net, amazing!!!!
Love the videos, Matt! keep on rocking. Greetings from Oregon
Obviously you install the headers 6" higher so when you put the arch in, it is at the correct height. We have always set the headers at the top of the arch, but then we have 4 small corner pieces of sheeting to fill in. I like your way better!
Great work matt. Can u do a full tutorial on how to calculate arches
Thanks for all your hard work in shooting and editing your videos. Love them and you guys are true craftsman and care about your quality of work. Question in a smaller home is it easier to sheet the walls on the ground squaring them up then raise. I know they are heavier but if they are not big walls. I’m building a shop soon and that’s my plan and because of you I am blocking between studs. No one does that around here. Doing it Bang-On style!!!
When we do layout up here for trusses we snap a chalk line from the marks on each end to hit the interior walls that way after it’s quick to go through and nail them down
Ryan, that's a really smart method! Do you guys still run cat walks to keep things straight? On spans bigger than 10' we have to have a 2x4" through the center of truss to nail to for layout.
MattBangsWood yep I run a 2 by 4 every ten feet as well gable end walls I do a 45 degree brace from corner to the cat walk
Awesome as always. Could you do a short video explaining the concept of tying in two walls of different heights. My house plans have two wall heights. One is 9’ and the other 10’. How do they come together?
Hay Matt you and your mate are doing a great job nice 👍 arch’s you’re doing great job 👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😉😉🤙🤙👌👌🤪🤪😜😜ps we are in lock 🔐 down to from mad max
We are too! Surprisingly they’re letting us work, pretty stoked.
Hope all is well with you!!
MattBangsWood hay I had a stress test on my heart not but I will be ok 👌 from mad max
Good progress man. Stay safe out there.
Have you ever considered doing a jig for the router to do the arches?
Kinda hard to explain on here but it does work
We actually talked about it, it would work killer. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough of them to make it worth doing.
We did a build in 2017 with 48 arched windows, and around 40 arches for the patio cover. Fun project! Would have been perfect then, but I wasn’t hooked on the router back then, so I cut it all with a skilly.
good soundtrack
cant wait for trusses!👍🏼
You explained it very well but I would love a clip on how to make an arch 👑
Thanks Matt for great content, I’m a core framer 20 years just sad my area quality is a rare thing
What to happened Fox and Quinton? Are they on another project? Bang on 🤘🏾
Great content.. Thanks.
Once a Dad always a Dad so surprises he checks your work. Lol
Does the engineer normally require the studs at hold downs be knot free? I've seen failures in seismic events when wood studs have knots. Just curious.
Never heard it, but I believe it.. Unfortunately the lumber yard we dealt with (out of our hands) was pretty bad. We had quite a few we culled for “NFG - No F***** Good” pile..
Magicians!
As good as it gets 👏👏
Y’all have amazing weather rn, Florida is hot as balls😂
Video idea if you do get shut down. Tool trailer tour and tools you would like to add that you guys don’t have.
Here in Cali ,,we pre fab them below, to avoid all the reaching up..
So you don’t nail the blocks to the header and trimmer?
Eleven and a half hours is a half day for us.
Hi Matt. Love those arches. Can't wait to see the trusses going up. By the way, what happened to Fox? Enjoy the day. Ray L
What? They won’t set the trusses on the top plate for you?
I seriously want you to come do my addition. Utah is not to far away, right?
Mech Master I’ll come I’m not working
Can you explain the reason for using one Simpson strong-wall in one corner, and two in the opposite corner?
Thanks
That music in the beginning sounded familiar reminding me of an old Fleetwood Mac song. I kept waiting for the part to start singing: Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise, Running in the shadows, damn your love, damn your lies … LOL ua-cam.com/video/JDG2m5hN1vo/v-deo.html
Where is full tutorial for arch? Learning for first time.
Same for me me and the bro just working on new constructi
Ha i used to ride quad and dirt bikes on that property way back, I know exactly where that spot is. It’s about a mile from my house in rural AG, what are the chances, think my neighbor may have even flopped those pads
Small world! Spot on as well.
MattBangsWood right on man! Glad I stumbled upon your content, stay safe
so the double front wall in the Garage is only for looks, non need for it for strength?
Why the double walls?
Wow
I truss we'll see more tomorrow? Someone had to say it.
🤣🤣🤣
Seria possível mostrar também a instalação elétrica dessa obra?? Obrigado
Why the two walls?
Shear panels sideways? Is that just infill not shear then?
Another awesome video Matt. Just 1question do you even own any Milwaukee tools cause all I see you use is makita, skillsaw,
11:30 those are the same people that think you need snap on tools to be a good mechanic and have a loan the size of your car just to work. Talk about never being able to make money
How many gopros to you use? One for timelapse one on you? Or do u switch back n forth with one?
Whats up with the pancake
Our wheelbarrow broke, plug fried. Used that little booger for a second until new plug was fixed.
Why didn’t you work trusses at site?
Why not use larger sizes of wood to get the appearances bigger? Wouldn’t it be cheaper and stronger to use larger sizes and easier also to build one time compared to doing the same thing twice? Not trying to be a bah humbug legit question. I’m sure it’s gonna look sick when finished. Love the high ceilings and all this will be a beautiful home for sure.
Well, it’s 2x12 at that point, which is outrageous. We’d have to use 12” header material at that point too. Would make the process very hard.
MattBangsWood I got what your saying. I figured you have the lift and all would have been easier to build one time instead of twice the work etc. the framing is looking dope great job as normal with your crew.
What do you do with the scrap lumber
Use every thing possible.. I’ll have less than a bed full of scrap when we’re done. 😊 Gets recycled.
Is that compressor a Jenny?
Code code required on standing sheets
Cost effective question, is it cheaper to have premade roof trusses made and delivered or build them yourself for a personal project, it's probably easier for a company to have them made but if you were to do it yourself would you have them premade or do it yourself?
It wouldn’t be a hand cut roof, wouldn’t make the trusses. Just ridge and rafters instead of trusses.
Depends on the project, we’ve done both!
@@MattBangsWood Thanks I didn't really know there was a big difference between truss vs rafter roofs till you mentioned it, I'll do a bit more research on it ✌
How long are the nails your using for the arches
2-3/8”! Same nails you use for sheathing.
What thickness are the osb boards you’re putting on the outside ?
The tool doesn't make the carpenter, the carpenter makes the tool. Something most people dont understand these days. They go to home depot and buy the most expensive thing they see and thinks it makes them better.
Watching this a second time and I just thought; why not use the router to cut out a circle to match the diameter of your arch, and then cut to right dimensions?
I know plenty of ways to skin a cat as they say, but I know you like to use the router, and even I have begun using it more.
Can anyone tell me how much would it cost building a house of this scale?
good day
sir i am in south america what does it cost for framing a house like this per sq ft
thank you
So COVID-19 has not affected the framing business in California?
Yes and No.. All big projects were shut down. Anyone over 10 in a crew..
Since we're small, we're deemed 'essential' and allowed to work.
Love the work as a fellow carpenter but as an ex smoker, those guys gotta quit! I get on my guys about it too
What is the purpose of the double wall in front of the house? California...Is it like in the movies, so when they ram your house with the truck it doesn't fall down??
Do they do that in movies? 🤣 I never seen that. Just appearance is all.
a jealous 'real housewife of LA'.
You are fast
24:57. That top plate isnt going anywhere.
It’s called out via plans that way, just doing what they’re after. 🤣 I’ll agree, there’s plenty of nails!
Why were the arches sealed? Wont there be insulation inside?
They’ll pop a block and stuff it, or hole and blown in (if they decide to), being California, they sometimes do. Sometimes don’t.
@@MattBangsWood thanks for explaining, love your videos, keep up the good work!
What is the point of the double walls? heavy roof, or an architectural detail?
Architectural detail, gives it a “big” appearance.
Those gotta be the easiest walls to walk! I'm jealous
I joked around for a few days prior to trusses saying im taking the double walls. Truss day came, I got the double walls.. Definitely a cake walk!
Do the tutorial
OSB directly on concrete foundation? Concrete wicks moisture!
Held off concrete 1/4”+ all around. No ground contact.
How tall the walls are?
10’ and 14’6”. 😊
My dad cuts arches with a circular saw 😳
We've cut hundreds of them with a circ saw. It works just fine, personally, I cut everything wit a jigsaw. Prior, we were in more of a 'go-go' stage, and built quicker. We've changed ways a bit since.
gosh nothing hotter than a man working.. ha
Oh gosh, it does get pretty warm out there.
@@MattBangsWood hahah talking about you! I know your married and all! but lordy!
Why double window sills?
Double sill is a must, gives you something to nail to for trim, even though this build is stucco, it’s common practice for us. Single sill went out in the ‘90’s here.
First
Pacific NW Carpenter Damn it, you beat me too.
you need glasses minute 10:14 you don't look cool without them,
I forget from time to time, I make mistakes. I agree though!
