    I really appreciate that you actually showed a lot of personal footage and didn't just use stock footage I see repeated in a lot of other hungry root reviews.

    I love that about the packaging!! That really makes me feel good about ordering from them. Definitely want to try this now

      Yes! The packaging was a huge relief. I was afraid there would be a ton of waste. I was pleasantly surprised, and I thought the plant food packs were a great idea.

    Thank you for taking the time to reply even though you know longer are using it.

      Of course! I hope the video is helpful even if HR didn't work out for us in the long run.

      @@CWintheWCMay I ask why it didn't work out?

    • @CWintheWC
      @CWintheWC  28 днів тому

      Sorry for the late reply. This comment got buried. For us we decided it just wasn't enough food per meal for what we were paying. We determined we could go out and get food at a restaurant for not too much more and have leftovers too. So, really it came down to quantity for the dollar.

    Thank you, they have ready to cook now, I’m trying a different company but I’m wondering about the cost, looks like a lot in the box.

      Oh, I'd be curious to know what company you're trying. Truthfully, I wish we could find something seasonal. We don't really need a full service in the summer, but winter we really do!

    I’ve tried all the services and HR is my fav. I’ve been ordering on and off for a few years and they never disappoint. I’ve had a few issues here and there in the summer with the ice packs leaking and being all gross but HR makes it super easy to get refunds on things.
    I love how they send you the whole package of something, I always have extra and can use it in other stuff.

      Yes, their customer service is great. I do also love that you can skip particular ingredients because you still have some left from a previous order. I'm glad to hear after experiencing so many meal services you like HR the best.

    Great review. HR is the 4th service that I'm trying. The first box will arrive in a few days. I've tried Home Chef, Hello Fresh, and Marley Spoon.
    I want to find a meal service that I feel comfortable with that offers variety, quality products and value. But the biggest thing I want to avoid is the time spent meal planning. I am soooo tired of that after decades of having it fall on me. And, since it is just my husband and now, I am tired of wasting food that can only be purchased by unit and not by pound. I don't need enough of any one thing to feed a dozen people, I just need enough to create a dinner and hopefully a lunch for my husband the next day. I figure that I throw away more regular grocery purchases than I spend on this type of service.
    Home Chef and Marley spoon were both fine with sending out already rotting produce. Home Chef would place veggies on top of the ice packs causing them to freeze and turn to mush. Home Chef also is notorious about counting the weight of the packaging and injected water towards the serving size. 10 oz of meat (for two people) was what they would say they include but weighing the meat after taking it out of the plastic and draining away the liquid might yield 6 oz of meat total. Hello Fresh was very repetitive and I got bored quickly. They all would pre-curate weekly menus with no regards to the fact that every meal features green beans that week or roasted potatoes with every meal. meh
    So, I am intrigued with the "grocery" aspect of HR. If I don't like the vegetable offered with a meal, I can remove that vegetable and use the credit toward a vegetable that I would prefer. I'm seeing simple shopping with no waste for simple dishes like beef larb lettuce wraps from the grocery side. I even saw a simmer sauce that I can no longer find in the grocery stores that I love so I used my snack credits to buy the sauce (Vindaloo), some chicken breasts, a bag of seasoned rice and some naan. Quick meal that I know that my husband and I will enjoy.
    We'll see how it goes. Our grocery stores are stocking more and more meal kits nowadays. I just hate the idea of driving in heavy traffic on a daily basis to get a fresh kit since I wouldn't be sure of "Best By" date and probably couldn't expect the prepared kits to last more than a couple of days in the fridge.

      I was very impressed with the freshness and overall quality of HR meals. My favorite things were the ease of every meal and that I no longer had to meal plan. The mental toll meal planning takes was too much. HR definitely eases that burden. I hope it works for you and simplifies things.

    Great review! I am just starting the process of learning about this type of service.....I hate cooking! I think Hungryroot is not a match for me if the portions are small. My husband would starve. Thanks for this video. Y'all are such a beautiful couple!♥

      Thank you so much!! I hate cooking as well, so I completely understand. We ultimately determined HR wasn't for us either, and the portion sizes were a big part of that decision. Good luck in your search. I hope you find one that works for you.

    Ok still a question, where is this food sourced and where does it come from?

    • @CWintheWC
      @CWintheWC  15 днів тому

      That is a great question. I know it is not all proprietary to Hungry Root. We have now stopped the service, and since that time, I've found some of the brands of items we got from Hungry Root at the regular grocery store. So, my assumption would be that their products are sources from various places.

    What is the sodium levels like in their foods, specifically the meats since they are pre seasoned? Thanks

    • @CWintheWC
      @CWintheWC  5 місяців тому

      I didn't really pay attention to the sodium levels. I'm sorry. We have decided to stop using HR since posting this video, so I no longer have any of their pre-made meats to look at. However, the Kevin's brand sells their sauces. I found some at a local grocery store, and I have a couple in the cupboard. One says 310mg/13% the other packet says 240mg/10%. I hope that's helpful.

    This is just a suggestion…you should consider changing out your cutting boards and stop using plastic. When you continue to chop on it you are getting pieces of plastic in your food and ingesting it.

    • @CWintheWC
      @CWintheWC  21 день тому +1

      Thank you. I didn't realize that. We've used plastic because I was afraid of keeping wood clean enough and safe when cutting meat. What would you recommend as a better material? (Also, safe cleaning if it's wood?)

    • @shavamalakha3554
      @shavamalakha3554 21 день тому

      @ wood is best “they” say but make sure it is a hardwood and not a soft wood. I use wood but I have two, one for veggies and fruit (and when I cut onions, scallions) I use the other side I just flip it and I have another for raw meat only. Also if you aren’t so certain about wood, on Amazon I saw glass and titanium chopping boards.

    • @CWintheWC
      @CWintheWC  19 днів тому

      Thank you! I was always nervous with wood because of the cleanliness, but I didn't think about a hard wood vs soft. I appreciate the recommendation. I'm always open to safe and sustainable replacements for regular use items.
