Chris and Whitney in the Windy City
Приєднався 29 сер 2008
Hello, we are Chris and Whitney, and we live in Chicago, Illinois, aptly nicknamed the Windy City. We are lifestyle vloggers sharing our lives and perspective living in downtown Chicago. The Cold Won't Slow Us Down: Snowy Chicago Adventures
In this weekend vlog, we kicked things off with two delicious visits to Industry Ales, enjoying craft drinks, delicious food, and great vibes. Along the way, we had some hiccups while trying to upgrade our phones-there were a few frustrating moments, but in the end, it all worked out! We managed to score some fantastic deals on more than just new phones, which made the whole experience worth it. Of course, the new phones are so big that we had to update Whitney's bag to fit it! Watch as we navigate the ups and downs of phone shopping, kick back with some Chicago shopping, and share the fun and chaos of our weekend adventure.

We started with the closet, sorting through clothes we hadn’t worn in months and donating items that no longer served us. Next, we focused on the cabinets in the living room, clearing out old papers and forgotten items that had accumulated over time. We were able to get things in more purposeful locations and cl...

Gluten Free Goodies for Holiday Gatherings
Переглядів 6321 день тому
Making Christmas treats is a fun holiday tradition, but sometimes things don’t go as smoothly as planned! We had a bit of a struggle with our caramel - it took us three tries to get it just right. The first batch was grainy, the second one burned a bit, but on the third try, we finally nailed it! It’s all part of the process, though, and definitely worth it. We’re excited to share the final res...

Hey guys!! Catching up on all your vlogs since finding you recently. Love it all!! I’m on a loop of watching all things Disney cruise. The little girl in me is screaming of excitement.. ok not screaming because hubby would definitely come running.. 😆but close. 😂We leave February 17 and I think I will add sweat tops and bottoms to our list. Thank you for the heads up on the evening weather. First (and only so far) cruise we did it was August and evenings were so nice and refreshing, I hadn’t thought of the weather in February. Another great vlog. Be blessed and enjoy cruising!! 🫶🏻🙏🏻😊
Same here! Watching all the Disney vlogs on loop. It's hard to believe ours is so close. I feel ready and not ready at the same time. We are definitely going to be packing layers. We've been watching the weather, and I don't want to be chilly like last time. I'm so glad that tip was helpful.
@ yes!! Right around the corner for you as-well. 😁You live and you learn and you passed it on to us. THANK YOU!! So excited for you all and can’t wait to see the vlogs. 😊
UGH! I can totally understand the frustration! I feel like talking to anyone at the cellular provider is on par with paying taxes. Glad you were able to get it figured out though!
Yes! We were saying we would have had an easier time buying a car than we did getting phones. Ha!!
Fire! I’m still rocking my 13 Pro Max…might for another year or two as well 😮
Beer in tall glass is underrated imo
I prefer a regular pint glass, but the tall glass makes me feel fancy.
Ohhh I loved this!!! 🫶🏻 Just found your channel and of course subscribed. 😊YES!! LOVE Adventures in Millerland channel. Found them also when looking for information/inspiration on Disney cruises. 😊Hubby and I are headed on our second Disney cruise in February on the Wish. We are second year empty nesters with our daughter away at college. First cruise was with her and she was not happy were cruising without her this time around. 🤦🏻♀️ so she will be joining us from here on out until infinity and beyond I guess . 😆We have a June cruise on the Magic with her coming up. We’re so loving the cruising experience and wish we had done it sooner. Thank you for sharing.. and looking for to all the vlogs. 🫶🏻😊🥂cheers!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this video! We had so much fun recording it. We laughed really hard!! Ha! We'll be on the wish in a couple of weeks, and we can't wait!! We'll also be on the Magic this year, not until November. What was your first ship? Better late than never on getting into cruising! It was late for us too, but I'm glad we found it!
@ Yes.. your laughs were contagious. 😂Ours was the Dream. It was such an amazing experience the first time. Our daughter was 12 just about to turn 13 ( now 20) and she LOVED the kids club. We didn’t see her much.. she could be so independent and she had the room phone I don’t know if that’s even a thing now, but the actual room phone, well she could carry it around and call us on it and meet up with us. And the security is so amazing, we felt very comfortable leaving her alone to explore. It was wonderful. Enjoy your upcoming and future cruises.. hopefully I’ll see you both on a cruise someday and fan girl. My husband will be confused but I’ll explain. 😁 💕Namaste🙏🏻
I love that! We are super excited for my sister's kids to go on their first cruise. I think they will really enjoy the kids clubs, and I think her oldest will really enjoy having some freedom on the ship.
Ok still a question, where is this food sourced and where does it come from?
That is a great question. I know it is not all proprietary to Hungry Root. We have now stopped the service, and since that time, I've found some of the brands of items we got from Hungry Root at the regular grocery store. So, my assumption would be that their products are sources from various places.
When is your cruise?
Our Wish cruise is at the end of this month... it's coming up quick, and we're getting really excited.
@@CWintheWC Is it a three day or the 4 day cruise?
This one is just a 3 night. I wish it was longer. I'm afraid it will be over before we know it.
Hi Chris & Whitney! Just wanted to introduce ourselves. I am Staci & my husband is Jay. We recently connected to your channel through LeggLife, but we are hooked. Love your style, and have especially loved watching your cruise videos. We will be on the Treasure in March and on the Fantasy in September for a British Isles cruise. Cannot wait to see your upcoming cruise videos and hear your thoughts!
Thank you so much! It's nice to meet you Staci and Jay. I am very excited to try out the Treasure in the future. It looks like it will be a spectacular ship, and I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. We love getting to connect in the comments, so thank you so much for reaching out. We're looking forward to our upcoming cruise as well, it's hard to believe it's almost here!
This is just a suggestion…you should consider changing out your cutting boards and stop using plastic. When you continue to chop on it you are getting pieces of plastic in your food and ingesting it.
Thank you. I didn't realize that. We've used plastic because I was afraid of keeping wood clean enough and safe when cutting meat. What would you recommend as a better material? (Also, safe cleaning if it's wood?)
@ wood is best “they” say but make sure it is a hardwood and not a soft wood. I use wood but I have two, one for veggies and fruit (and when I cut onions, scallions) I use the other side I just flip it and I have another for raw meat only. Also if you aren’t so certain about wood, on Amazon I saw glass and titanium chopping boards.
Thank you! I was always nervous with wood because of the cleanliness, but I didn't think about a hard wood vs soft. I appreciate the recommendation. I'm always open to safe and sustainable replacements for regular use items.
Thank you, they have ready to cook now, I’m trying a different company but I’m wondering about the cost, looks like a lot in the box.
Oh, I'd be curious to know what company you're trying. Truthfully, I wish we could find something seasonal. We don't really need a full service in the summer, but winter we really do!
Love that you show these details. Very helpful! I wish I had watched a video like this before my first online check in because it’s helpful to actually see what it looks like!
100% I was so intimidated by the check in process the first go around. Plus this time was so different having a kid in our room, so we thought it would be helpful to share. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
New subscriber……found you from legglife
Awesome! So glad you found us. Thank you so much for subscribing. I hope you enjoy our content.
We are a month away from our Disney wish cruise too!! So excited!
No way! I wonder if we are on the same cruise?! We embark on January 24th.
@@CWintheWCoh my gosh so close! We are going on the 27th so we are getting on as you get off!
That's so funny! I'm sure you will have an amazing time.
Started following. Legglife said your great. If they say so.. it must be true.
Yay!!! Thank you so much! We're so glad you're here. :)
Just found you on the LeggLife livestream! Subscribed ❤
Thank you! We just subscribed to your channel as well. So glad we found each other.
@ thank you!
The Reindeer and penguins at AK were so cool. The food stuffies at Epcot are adorable, especially that pickle. The Viking Mickey ears!!
I know! I LOVED the Viking ears!! I always want all the ears.
Wow,most of video is at restaurant.
Yeah, we didn't do a lot of shopping, just wanted to see the pretty decorations.
THE GUY SEEMS COOL AND CALM. HE IS HANDSOME. WOULD LOOK EVEN BETTER WITH A SHORT HAIRCUT. I USED TO WORK IN MARSHALL FIELD. IT WAS TRULY MAGICAL WITH NICE AWESOME BOSSES. THEN WORKED WHEN MACYS TOOK OVER. IT WAS NICE UNDER MACYS BUT NOT NEAR THE GREAT MARSHALL FIELDS. ALSO WORKED DOWN THE STREET IN ANOTHER MAGICAL STORE. CARSON P. SCOTT.
That's cool. The building certainly has a cool history.
Oh my word that is adorable.
Isn't it?!?! I love all things miniature, so this was so much fun!
Love this. How long did it take?
It took a couple of hours. Chris did a bulk of the work. I just popped pieces out of the holders.
Those garden suites at The Boardwalk look amazing!
I know! I think they would be a really cool option for a resort only stay some time, when you really want to make the most of your resort experience. Such a cool idea!
Labriola is one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Take a trip to the original in Oakbrook. The Fries are the best and their italian bread
I've enjoyed it both times I've tried it. We're hoping to get the family to go with us some time. I think it will be a hit.
I enjoyed your video. I will have to make your gluten free cookies. From Pam in CA
You will not be disappointed! I think these are delicious, even if you don't have to eat gluten free.
I haven't watched the full video yet but if Home Alone aint way up there imma riot. "Look what ya did, ya little jerk" is sooo hilarious to me lmao I agree with Whitney's answer the most, I do think they're both perfectly rated. They're both really good and that how pretty much everybody sees it !
Also my first movie memory ever was Gremlins when I was just over 4 and we were in Gatlinburg for family vacation, Chris was there! I remember it cause it scared the heck out of me haha!
I'm so glad I never watched Gremlins as a child. I think it would have traumatized me. Ha!! I do love it now, though. Also, Home Alone (1 & 2) will probably forever be my favorite Christmas movies.
Gotta watch my Love Actually ever year! Also ever year watch is The Holiday, Family Stone and Four Christmases🎄
We have not seen Family Stone, but we added it to the list to make sure we give it a try. We also want to add the Holiday to the list. Four Christmases is really funny.
We sailed on the Magic in September of this year and loved it! We had already done the Dream, Fantasy, and the Wish, but we loved the smaller ship. You’ll have the best time!
I am so glad to hear that! It's nice to know how much you still loved the Magic even after sailing on the larger ships. Thank you!
U guys are going on Disney cruise soon.
Hey, I see you’ve been creating fantastic content on UA-cam. With the right adjustments to how your videos are presented, you can increase your audience significantly. If you'd like to discuss some strategies to improve your channel's visibility, let me know!
Thank you. I appreciate the feedback. We've really just been enjoying learning and creating thus far, so we haven't really considered much about channel growth. Right now with how busy our lives can get, I think we'll stay focused on content creation as a side hobby, but I do really appreciate it!

Feel free to reach out whenever you’re ready to discuss or if you have any questions in the future!
Awwwwwwwwwww
love the cruise logo and vinyl name decals on the cup, would you mind sharing where you got them from?
We ordered the decals from a shop on Etsy, but I had issues with the shop I purchased ours from, so I wouldn't recommend them. However, here is a link to a shop that has been recommended by other UA-camrs for Fish Extenders: www.etsy.com/shop/Texasloftdesigns?ref=shop_sugg_market The linked shop is called Texas Loft Designs. While this shop came highly recommended, I was not able to order from them because the shop was on a holiday pause when I needed to purchase (because I kind of waited until the last minute). I would recommend ordering as early as you can, so you don't have that issue.
I really appreciate that you actually showed a lot of personal footage and didn't just use stock footage I see repeated in a lot of other hungry root reviews.
Thank you! I'm glad to hear it was helpful for you.
Pumpkin spice anything always!
I'm sure you saw my Trader Joe's haul on Instagram. I basically buy everything pumpkin every week this time of year. Ha!!
Thank you for taking the time to reply even though you know longer are using it.
Of course! I hope the video is helpful even if HR didn't work out for us in the long run.
@@CWintheWCMay I ask why it didn't work out?
Sorry for the late reply. This comment got buried. For us we decided it just wasn't enough food per meal for what we were paying. We determined we could go out and get food at a restaurant for not too much more and have leftovers too. So, really it came down to quantity for the dollar.
I love that about the packaging!! That really makes me feel good about ordering from them. Definitely want to try this now
Yes! The packaging was a huge relief. I was afraid there would be a ton of waste. I was pleasantly surprised, and I thought the plant food packs were a great idea.
What is the sodium levels like in their foods, specifically the meats since they are pre seasoned? Thanks
I didn't really pay attention to the sodium levels. I'm sorry. We have decided to stop using HR since posting this video, so I no longer have any of their pre-made meats to look at. However, the Kevin's brand sells their sauces. I found some at a local grocery store, and I have a couple in the cupboard. One says 310mg/13% the other packet says 240mg/10%. I hope that's helpful.
4:10 bless you 😂
I love this! I had to go back and see who sneezed. Ha!
Very nice what you gave & got. Sounds like bring an extra luggage bag. Thanks for showing
You're welcome! I do recommend packing an extra bag that can be folded and stowed if you don't end up using it.
🤦🏽♀️I am moving in to another video. Girl, let your husband finish a sentence! You constantly interrupt him!! Goodness!!
We have had this exact conversation! Let me tell you, doing these videos have been a lesson in self awareness. I have been working on being more patient and letting Chris speak. Thank you for your feedback.
We did the 7 night Eastern Caribbean on the Fantasy back in May and these video is bringing back so many wonderful memories.
I'm so glad!! We love to watch cruise vlogs and reminisce about our cruise too. It always makes us want to cruise again. We have about 170 days to the next one. Can't wait!!
Whitney. Your hair is so cute.
Thank you! I was embracing the humidity.
TIP! On my first Disney cruise I did this. Go to the adult only pool area Satellite falls at dark and walk around the wind shields towards the front you should be looking out over the bow of the ship! Its an absolute amazing sight and feeling !
I love that! We didn't do any wondering on the top deck in the dark. We will definitely do that on the next one. Thanks for the tip!
just be careful it can get quite windy up there!!
So depressing i cant afford to go
Yes, I wish Disney (especially Disney cruises were more affordable). We love cruising Disney, and we will keep doing it, but we are also open to trying other cruise lines.
Great review! I am just starting the process of learning about this type of service.....I hate cooking! I think Hungryroot is not a match for me if the portions are small. My husband would starve. Thanks for this video. Y'all are such a beautiful couple!♥
Thank you so much!! I hate cooking as well, so I completely understand. We ultimately determined HR wasn't for us either, and the portion sizes were a big part of that decision. Good luck in your search. I hope you find one that works for you.
I’ve tried all the services and HR is my fav. I’ve been ordering on and off for a few years and they never disappoint. I’ve had a few issues here and there in the summer with the ice packs leaking and being all gross but HR makes it super easy to get refunds on things. I love how they send you the whole package of something, I always have extra and can use it in other stuff.
Yes, their customer service is great. I do also love that you can skip particular ingredients because you still have some left from a previous order. I'm glad to hear after experiencing so many meal services you like HR the best.
For motion sickness I would highly recommend Ship Ezzz patches. After finding out the hard way I typically get motion sickness on cruises. In May when we sailed on the Wish my son and I used the patches and neither of us had any issues and there are no side effects.
I wondered about the patch options. It would certainly be easier than remembering to take a pill each day. Did you have to get that from your doctor?
You guys had the best seat in the house. Nice vid.
Thank you! Yes, we were very fortunate to have access to such a great view of the race. It's been our first experience with NASCAR.
Great review. HR is the 4th service that I'm trying. The first box will arrive in a few days. I've tried Home Chef, Hello Fresh, and Marley Spoon. I want to find a meal service that I feel comfortable with that offers variety, quality products and value. But the biggest thing I want to avoid is the time spent meal planning. I am soooo tired of that after decades of having it fall on me. And, since it is just my husband and now, I am tired of wasting food that can only be purchased by unit and not by pound. I don't need enough of any one thing to feed a dozen people, I just need enough to create a dinner and hopefully a lunch for my husband the next day. I figure that I throw away more regular grocery purchases than I spend on this type of service. Home Chef and Marley spoon were both fine with sending out already rotting produce. Home Chef would place veggies on top of the ice packs causing them to freeze and turn to mush. Home Chef also is notorious about counting the weight of the packaging and injected water towards the serving size. 10 oz of meat (for two people) was what they would say they include but weighing the meat after taking it out of the plastic and draining away the liquid might yield 6 oz of meat total. Hello Fresh was very repetitive and I got bored quickly. They all would pre-curate weekly menus with no regards to the fact that every meal features green beans that week or roasted potatoes with every meal. meh So, I am intrigued with the "grocery" aspect of HR. If I don't like the vegetable offered with a meal, I can remove that vegetable and use the credit toward a vegetable that I would prefer. I'm seeing simple shopping with no waste for simple dishes like beef larb lettuce wraps from the grocery side. I even saw a simmer sauce that I can no longer find in the grocery stores that I love so I used my snack credits to buy the sauce (Vindaloo), some chicken breasts, a bag of seasoned rice and some naan. Quick meal that I know that my husband and I will enjoy. We'll see how it goes. Our grocery stores are stocking more and more meal kits nowadays. I just hate the idea of driving in heavy traffic on a daily basis to get a fresh kit since I wouldn't be sure of "Best By" date and probably couldn't expect the prepared kits to last more than a couple of days in the fridge.
I was very impressed with the freshness and overall quality of HR meals. My favorite things were the ease of every meal and that I no longer had to meal plan. The mental toll meal planning takes was too much. HR definitely eases that burden. I hope it works for you and simplifies things.
Kinda shitty that it got rained on twice. Hopefully next year will work out
I know! Right? At least Saturday was beautiful. It's a shame they didn't start the race earlier on Sunday. It's like the rain waited for the race to start, which was a bummer. Fingers crossed for no rain next year.
I loved hearing the “Go Austin” from a lady who didn’t even know the flags in the beginning 😂 I’m glad you all experienced and took it all in! Being from the NASCAR capital of the U.S., I take for granted others that may not know the ins and outs of NASCAR or how much work go into preparing for just a simple event let alone one on your scale there. I hope you all enjoyed and will be watching next year! Thanks for watching
Thank you! Yes, the street race has been my only experience with Nascar, but I've really enjoyed it. Maybe we'll have to go see a regular style race some time.

Thank you so much! We've enjoyed getting to experience racing. Maybe it will be a new passion for us. It's definitely fun to have it happen so close to home.
