- This is a walking tour in Monopoli, Italy one of the beautiful towns located in the Puglia region of Italy. 10 minutes by train from Polignano a Mare and 30 minutes from Bari. Monopoli is a charming coastal town nestled on the Adriatic Sea. It has rich history that dates back to ancient times, with influences from various civilizations such as the Greeks, Romans, and Byzantines. The town's historic center is a labyrinth of narrow cobblestone streets, adorned with whitewashed buildings adorned with vibrant bougainvillea, creating a picturesque and authentic atmosphere. The town has crystal clear waters with a picturesque waterfront walkway, the Lungomare Porto. Monopoli is a must see if you are travelling around Puglia and one of my favorite places I visited during my trip.

Back in the 1970's I travelled from Geneva to Lecce in Italy. Changed trains in Bari, and I remember thinking the villages looked so quaint! But there was no train service to the smaller places at the time. Did you drive to Monopoli?
I had planned to drive along the coast but due to limited time I decided to fly and rent a Vespa for my travels. Of course, I forgot to bring my drivers license so I took the train instead. Along the coast it was fine with the train but inland towards Alberobello or Matera, I had to take the bus.
What time of day and what month is this 🙂
