I read this book in 1966 when I was a Marine sergeant on my 2nd tour in Vietnam. It was .my 4th year in the Marine Corp which I intended to make a career. I had already received my reup talk from the company first sergeant and had been tld if I shipped over for 6 Id get E6 and one year at duty station of my choice. It sounded good.till I read this book and thought about what Id observed and heard the past two years and compsred it to this book. I elected to get out of the Marine Corp and use my G I Bill to go to college and then graduate school. I never looked back.
Reading some of the early "Pentagon Papers," I found FDR stating, that due to France's collaboration with the Nazi's in Europe and Japan Empire in Asia, France's colonial days were over. Truman et al did not share that view and marched the USA into Vietnam, in support of France's continued colonial actions. The result was tragic.
If the Americans had fought and had been led like in WWII... Would the even greater military debacles of the 2nd Vietnam War,.....Afghanistan and Iraq would have been different?

None of this takes a book to figure out: I go to the Nam for a year unless I am wounded or extend my tour of duty. It is not my country. A Vietnamese lives there permanently. If Nyugen does not unite the country in his lifetime his son will and if his son does not his grandson will etc. Much bravery on both sides and much bloodletting but the outcome could never be in doubt.
Nope, never in doubt, no despot or despots son(s) was ever going to subjugate the will of the people no matter who did their fighting for them, no matter how long
@@jimw.4161 Thank you for your vote of confidence late as it might be. Anyone who graduated from high school - and a lot of guys did not - knew the Nam was a lost cause. Afghanistan was a lost cause also and folded up faster than the Nam but hey - look at all the M-16's Joe Biden gave to the Taliban - now those will not come back to the U.S.! Now that is gun control!
That would seem obvious at this point. However we have the advantage of creating our hypothesis with the use of hindsight. They (the west) had in resent memory won major wars on foreign soil based solely a sense of moral duty… they assumed the war against communism could be won in the same way.
Of course it's too much to ask the complete book from another anonymous and fake channel with no contact details whatsoever from UA-cam marketing, clearly! #End_UA-cam

I really enjoyed this Audiobook but not the narrator's impersonation of a French accent.
I just guess we'll never get to see part 2 oh well.
part 2 was the american vietnam war
You give French way too much cred
Unfortunately that street was bordered by a quagmire on both sides.......
If the French had fought and been led like this during WWII, the Germans would have had their hands full.
They were.

The german army was better fighters with better logistic by far
