I don’t fully remember this controversy, and I was like 8 when power just came on but my mom had no issue with letting me watch it. She never made a big deal bad because it was a kids show.
I have been a PR Fan since I was 4years old in the beginning of 97' and right around when I turned 8years old I began taking Shotokan Karate classes because of the Power Rangers series. What I got from it is discipline, Leadership, Confidence, Optimism, Incredible self esteem, Incredibly Social, Determined, educated, well behaved and kind. Yeah, I mean I don’t know what the controversy was but instead of complaining they should’ve just not let the kids watch for whatever reason they had but Power Rangers always taught that because they always said that in the show you know about not using you know fighting unless you had had you self fed parents like that but I’m likeif somebody attacks you or goes after you you need to defend yourself I mean like they told people to go fight and use weapons and I think anybody has ever watched Power Rangers. They turn out that way. They said they just start going after people I don’t remember ever hearing kids back then and they’re thinking it was OK to start fight when it came to power rangers they always sit there and had a good messages with every episode.

The characters had plenty of personality, and the movie was full of action and excellent adventure. I can't stand big hollywood critics who only watch documentaries and depressing dramas. This movie was a huge part of my childhood, and I still watch it today.
Rocky is a goofball who is always joking around. Kimberly is a girly girl who is also very warm and may even be the heart of the group. Adam is shy, quiet and un sure of himself. Aisha is always positive and brave. Billy is super intelligent and can pretty much make or fix anything. Tommy was turned evil and is still haunted by what he did, but redeemed himself and became leader because of his willingness to sacrifice himself for his friends. Sounds like plenty of personality to me.
That’s the only thing they always sit there and said about defending yourself don’t ever use my chore unless you had to defend yourself and like in the movie or the TV shows or whatever the whole time they ever really used fighting is when they’re fighting these monsters, that were the bad guys so I never got the message that you should just go out and fight and hurt people the message I always got is that you know you fight when you have to defend yourself but try not to use it you know if you line and all that stuff and a lot of good messages and I think personally because of Power Rangers that’s probably why I never got into drugs and all that stuff either because the messages they gave, and I never got a fight or anything like that
I think Roger Ebert was just upset because he wrote a movie once called "Beyond the Valley of The Dolls" and it sucked, so he spent the rest of his life telling other people their movies sucked, also if the monsters remind him of bad Japanese movies does he know it was based on a Japanese show?
Nobody knew that Power Rangers was based on a Japanese TV show back then and the Internet was in very few homes back in 1995. And Roger Ebert has loved and enjoyed films of it's kind like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Disney films, Ghostbusters, Wizard of Oz and E.T. Just not this film. omg this is so funny! as a kid i never though they were real and watching them now as an adult they had a better message then any shows on tv now have!
The parents who were so strict back in the day probably passed on that sensitive mentality to their kids. And as a result of that, the kids who grew up with sensitive and strict parents are probably the ones who complain about everything offending them nowadays. Sorry if I didn't word that properly.
This is a big part of what made the Rangers my favourite superheroes as a kid. They killed their enemies every week, and never pretended it wasn't the right thing to do. In comparison to the Rangers, most comic book heroes are morally stunted, guilt-trapped emos who do a piss-poor job at combating evil.
Fans know the different personalities of the Rangers, i.e. Billy was the shy, nerdy but brilliant guy, Kimberly was the gymnast, Valley girl type, etc, etc. and that film was made for the fans. For 2 middle aged guys to walk in cold and watch it, would be like turning on a soap opera in the middle of a story line, and trying to figure it out. Besides, everyone knows critics don't know anything anyways!
Media is lame , they let kids watch horror movies but not MMPR , The Rangers are heroes and they teach self defense , defending yourself vs evil villains 💯
Even worse, there were regions in the world where Season 2 was barely airing when the movie premiered, so Jason, Zack and Trini were still part of the team and all of the sudden these three new characters show up on the movie and it's not explained IF you did happen to watch the show, you were just out of the show's timeline...
I watched those first seasons and the movie over and over for years, yet never got any of the "merchandise" cus my parents were always broke. Merchandise was hardly the sole motivation for kids watching the show, trust me. For adults its horrible, of course, but for kids, its simply everything they could ever want.
I'm 20 and I'm so what furious that they tried to take it away as well, but guess what, the Power Rangers are STILL HERE after 20 years. WE as fans didn't give up, WE as fans have carried on the legacy and the power, and WE are going to pass the legacy and the power on to our little brothers, sisters, and someday even children. THE POWER IS ON!
I can't believe it was banned in Canada and New Zealand. I never saw it as violent, and there are great messages in the show, especially in the beginning. Oh well, I will always love this, even though I watched this 20 years ago.
Zordon always told the rangers "never use your powers unless evil forces u to." Same applies to the real world. Never use a weapon or force unless it's in self defense. I understood that as a kid, I understand that now at 32 years old..
MMPR teach us a lesson to defend yourself from attackers, defending yourself from harm is a different where an attacker could harm you or even kill you.
Ebert has some points, but he does definitely seem to be viewing it entirely from the POV of the film being a stand alone piece. While the movie can't be seamlessly combined with the tv, it is a bigger budget interpretation of the show and does build upon what the show had already established for two years at that time. The kids knew this.
Power Rangers got me into martial arts and taught me some good lessons. I sure as hell never hurt anyone because I watched PR. Only the USA sensational media did that.
for the love of God Parents back in the 90s did not understand the show itself they think was too violent too dark no it was not it was a Cheesy kids 90 series that show positive and messages it hey guys in rubber suits find people in spandex people fighting in Spandex and people wearing rubber suit robot costume it was just a spread some positive messages to kids don't do drugs don't don't bully don't curse I think and just to show that is okay to learn martial arts but in self-defense the bad is the true meaning of Mighty Morphinshowing kids right from wrong never tubilee stand up for what is right helping our people and the elderly and being kind of people who need help they want to bring peace to the world sure the show might have been banned in Canada and in New Zealand but who cares Power Rangers is already being filmed in New Zealand right now because the lack of Sentai footage through using but that's besides the point Power Rangers needs to show kids that sometimes using martial arts can be good only again in self defense not for violence parents need to know more about this show mean come on didn't you dumbasses watch the karate kids back in the 80s hell I want a couple of the movies and the remake and it shows that using martial arts the wrong way is bullying using it the Right Way is self-defense and doing the right that is the message with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers use martial arts as self-defense to help people in tough situations
Well i born 2003 and i watch power rangers. My parent allow me watch it and saw it for long time since i 10 years old and now i 15 years old and i feel like old to watch those movies.
It was never banned in canada..wtf this coming from someone born in 93 or maybe just banned from our TV stations? cause our basic cable always came with fox anyway lol, fox kids erry morning!
Sometimes, you have to sacrifice some realism to tell a good superhero story. If they wanted the Power Rangers as superheroes saving the day & stuff, then make them do exactly they do in the show, but their world in the show had to stop & blame them for their bad business practices. Has everyone notice that for a popular superhero franchise the show doesn't have any cops? The show does have SPD in 2005 but I'm talking about REAL cops. That's what I found out why parents complain the show for it's message of violence. The Rangers don't have consequences for their actions.
I 24 years old and didn't become some psycho killer. The Power Rangers like the Turtles only fight 'to protect the innocent form evil' and 'never fight unless someone else starts'

So what are they personality?
As a fan who lived in two different provinces during the power rangers heyday, I am 100% sure that they did air MMPR in Canada :P
omg this is so funny! as a kid i never though they were real and watching them now as an adult they had a better message then any shows on tv now have!
I'm 27 years old still love Power Rangers :p
Love the show
So many memories
Power Rangers haters! Power Ranger FOREVER!!!
I remember watching this when I was a little guy and I never use a weapon of a gun to kill
and now we aproach the 20th anniversary. long live pr.
thanks gosh call of duty was not out during this time i swear so many people would complain
I forgot how big Power Rangers was in the 90s and also for the better part of the early 2000s
I thought Space made it big again
Fans know the different personalities of the Rangers, i.e. Billy was the shy, nerdy but brilliant guy, Kimberly was the gymnast, Valley girl type, etc, etc. and that film was made for the fans. For 2 middle aged guys to walk in cold and watch it, would be like turning on a soap opera in the middle of a story line, and trying to figure it out. Besides, everyone knows critics don't know anything anyways!
That's kind of a generalization on critics in general.
1993: "OMG POWER RANGERS IS TOO VIOLENT FOR KIDS"
2024: "Yeah my son watches Marvel movies and anime and plays Fortnite"
damn it, Jason David Frank looks unbelievable hot here
1:00 LOL, I did that as a child with my neighbors.
That spiderman cereal tho
lol "you got it" i rembember that feeling of excitment about Power Rangers
Lookin back at how many blood and violence we have come cinema and tv shows now, you would think the media would be making lots of complaints today
Media is lame , they let kids watch horror movies but not MMPR , The Rangers are heroes and they teach self defense , defending yourself vs evil villains 💯
The real Messages just battle as a last resort When there’s no other choice of course
Why did I hear pieces of the Back to the Future III score? Listen carefully, it's there.
1:55 Bid Budget Effects? Oh man I miss the 90s
Yeah and those Disney and Nickelodeon live action kid's shows are so educational and deep....right
Sounds like a pretty good message to me
"i think it's gonna be alot better than the TV show"...
I can't believe it was banned in Canada and New Zealand. I never saw it as violent, and there are great messages in the show, especially in the beginning. Oh well, I will always love this, even though I watched this 20 years ago.
If only they could see it now. They'd want THIS back. It ain't the same since it's been on Nick
7:34 ANONYMOUS MOVEMENT TO THE "T"!
Zordon always told the rangers "never use your powers unless evil forces u to." Same applies to the real world. Never use a weapon or force unless it's in self defense. I understood that as a kid, I understand that now at 32 years old..
Power rangers was not banned in Canada lol. I can confirm this.
JASON DAVID FRANK GOOD STAND UP TO MMPR !!!
I love their reviews and agree with them that the film is not good but it's obvious that they never saw the show.
I remember this
Banned in Canada? I remember watching it every Saturday
I think I remember the spiderman cereal.
That Spider-Man cereal is violent. Lol jk. I love Power rangers!!!!!!
Power Rangers got me into martial arts and taught me some good lessons. I sure as hell never hurt anyone because I watched PR.
Only the USA sensational media did that.
And this is how One Million Moms started....
for the love of God Parents back in the 90s did not understand the show itself they think was too violent too dark no it was not it was a Cheesy kids 90 series that show positive and messages it hey guys in rubber suits find people in spandex people fighting in Spandex and people wearing rubber suit robot costume it was just a spread some positive messages to kids don't do drugs don't don't bully don't curse I think and just to show that is okay to learn martial arts but in self-defense the bad is the true meaning of Mighty Morphinshowing kids right from wrong never tubilee stand up for what is right helping our people and the elderly and being kind of people who need help they want to bring peace to the world sure the show might have been banned in Canada and in New Zealand but who cares Power Rangers is already being filmed in New Zealand right now because the lack of Sentai footage through using but that's besides the point Power Rangers needs to show kids that sometimes using martial arts can be good only again in self defense not for violence parents need to know more about this show mean come on didn't you dumbasses watch the karate kids back in the 80s hell I want a couple of the movies and the remake and it shows that using martial arts the wrong way is bullying using it the Right Way is self-defense and doing the right that is the message with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers use martial arts as self-defense to help people in tough situations
Well i born 2003 and i watch power rangers. My parent allow me watch it and saw it for long time since i 10 years old and now i 15 years old and i feel like old to watch those movies.
It was never banned in canada..wtf this coming from someone born in 93
or maybe just banned from our TV stations? cause our basic cable always came with fox anyway lol, fox kids erry morning!
+rem palm it was banned on YTV. i remember it. total bullshit.
yeah, he was describing a totally different film
Sometimes, you have to sacrifice some realism to tell a good superhero story. If they wanted the Power Rangers as superheroes saving the day & stuff, then make them do exactly they do in the show, but their world in the show had to stop & blame them for their bad business practices. Has everyone notice that for a popular superhero franchise the show doesn't have any cops? The show does have SPD in 2005 but I'm talking about REAL cops. That's what I found out why parents complain the show for it's message of violence. The Rangers don't have consequences for their actions.
This is kinda funny
does anyone else find it funny that later on new Zealand hosted power Rangers lol
I 24 years old and didn't become some psycho killer. The Power Rangers like the Turtles only fight 'to protect the innocent form evil' and 'never fight unless someone else starts'
Oh my god my parents thought it was stupid not violent but dumb show from Japan my aunt made us miss it she thought was viloent kids on weekends we visited grandma missed half a season wish we had youtube back then also wish those same people would look at politics think that nowadays causing hate&violence or over a president being an adult sucks!
and 20th anniversary is here
BANNED IN CANADA!?!?! Then explain why I had the movie on VHS when I was a kid.
The pink ranger from PR Lost Galaxy produced the movie? ?
