    Fun fact about Chrysalis armor guys: you can get parts of their "armor" even if you chop off their unarmoured parts. Because it's not armor. It's the living thing.

      Yeah i noticed :D and its cool that they do that considering you are suposed to chase the unarmored parts xb

      You can also get the parts from some of the normal enemies in the area. They randomly have Chrysalis armor instead of their usual MG Gorgon armor, because they are slowly being consumed and transformed into Chrysalis troopers as well.

    I love the NANOMACHINES portrayal in this game. In second game, there's a bonkers theme where you hunt a NANOBEAST (Delver) in a memorial park dedicated to extinct animals species. Then the SECOND SURGE happens and now park is crawling with Delver's offsprings, lesser nanobeasts, and you, a fucking superhuman in hard titanium shell, hunt them down like a caveman with a spear and a sword.

    One of my favorite parts of this game is the story, and lore. But, like any good Soulslike, this game's story is in tiny pieces spread across the whole game. And some of it is intentionally never explained. So it can be hard to figure it all out, especially in just a single playthrough. So if anyone is interested, here's a summary of my interpretation of it.
    SPOILERS BELOW if you want to find all this out yourself:
    Project Resolve was Creo's attempt to save humanity, and fix the dying ecosystem of Earth. But, depending on who you ask, it either wasn't working fast enough, or was actually making things worse. So they tried to find another solution, and Dr. Barret came up with Project Utopia.
    Project Utopia was either a chemical payload like Resolve, except it was going to be spread by self-replicating nanites. But it may have also been nothing but nanites that were literally going to rebuild life on Earth, cell by cell. Either way, a single rocket payload could distribute it across the entire planet. But, because these nanites were originally made for Creo's gear assembly devices, and hastily converted for use in Utopia, it was likely that they would also kill 95% of humanity in the process.
    This is why the board was so divided on whether or not they should launch Utopia. Was the risk worth it? Or should they just keep using Resolve and hope it works out in the end?
    Dr. Barret figured the danger was actually a good thing, because it would also solve the overpopulation problem at the same time. And, he was also working on his Homo Machinalis project, which are the Proteus units you fight. He believed these mechanical humans would be able to survive in the post-utopia world, and were the next step in human evolution. So much so that he even turns himself into one at the end of the game.
    Surprisingly, the two most important pieces of the puzzle are barely ever explained. The Surge itself, and the Rogue Process. But, here's how I think it all worked:
    Creo net is the network that links all the human minds and machines in the factory together. But, this is another technology that was put into use without proper testing. It ended up collecting echoes and junk data from all the minds connected to it. And over time, those bits and pieces formed into a mind of their own. That's why the final boss speaks to you in nothing but lines from other NPCs you met.
    It started off as simple small glitches in the system. Machines acting strange, people hearing voices, or experiencing memories that aren't theirs. That sort of thing. Its most likely what caused the medbay to not sedate Warren when his Exo Rig was installed.
    When The Surge happened, that extra energy completed the Rogue Process. Like the lightning bolt bringing Frankenstein's monster to life. Combined with the deaths of everyone that was connected to the net at that time, and it woke up scared and confused. At first, it was just using the various bodies and machines that were still connected to survive and explore its strange new environment. Which is why all the zombie workers and industrial machines are hostile to Warren in the game. That's the Rogue Process lashing out and trying to defend itself from the unknown.
    Then, once Utopia is set to launch, its finds the nanites, and uploads itself into them. And they make a much more effective body than anything else it had access to. At first, its still learning what form it should take to survive. And the Chrysalis troopers are an example of that Utopia will most likely do to humanity if its released. But, once its various monster forms are defeated, the Rogue Process copies Warren, because its been watching him the entire time. And, he's clearly the apex predator of the Creo facility. So its final form is a mirror of him.
    That virus that Dr. Chavez gives Warren was supposed to nullify the Utopia nanites so they wouldn't destroy the world. And it probably would have worked, if it weren't for the Rogue Process. According to the ending voiceovers, if you upload the virus, the Utopia payload is rendered inert, but the Rogue Process nanites are clearly still active within the Creo facility.
    But, the second game also retcons the endings, so who knows what really happened.
    Surprisingly, despite being the titular event of the game, exactly what The Surge itself is, or what caused it, is never explained at all. Its only mentioned a couple times, and never in detail. I'm not even entirely sure when it happened. I think it was while Warren was unconscious after having his rig installed. That, plus his faulty power core, is what saved him from being brain fried like everyone else.
    I think the second game reveals what caused it. But again, its just implied, so I can't be sure.

      Yeah i got some of the story but towards the end it just got more and more convoluted xb also i believe the rogue process calls you uncle at some point, i was very confused xb plus the ending leaves a lot to be desired, im not even sure what happened, did we save the world, did we not.. it gave the "for the good of humanity" achievement, but the rogue proccess is shown to still be alive.. i dont know.. they had a neat idea but it should have been explained better... dark souls is fine with just lore, but here, considering warren and the npc's you meet are actively trying to do something about this whole thing and trying to figure out what happened, there should have been a better structure for the story

    What a thrilling game man. It was helluva good time watching your walkthrough, it helped me remember why exactly I love it so much and it still sits around The best games I ever played (and not just soulslikes, really). Surely directional blocking & riposte system was fcking GODLIKE in TS2 and I enjoyed it there so much, but overall I dunno, the sequel is just not as good compared to og Surge. That's why TS1 is so unique to me, and despite some hitbox jank, I love it so damn much.
    And the vibes man, this game is brilliant with communicating the 'We're doomed' despair through the story, the enemies, environments, and cutscenes. Nanites isn't just a force of nature that could not be stopped, it's even bigger than that. Grey goo end of the world scenario pretty much. And that ending felt a lot like the one from Terminator 3 movie, where you just realize how all the hope is lost, and things will go south anyway. It's unknown to what degree, yes, but shti would hit hard 100% guaranteed.

    This game is definitely rough around the edges, but none of it is irredeemable. It is janky, and it definitely could be more forthcoming about its deeper systems. It took me a couple playthroughs before I really felt like I properly knew how to play it. For one thing, there are so many different weapons, armor sets, and implant combos you can use, it took a lot of trial and error before I finally figured out what was good. But once I figured it all out, it became my favorite Soulslike.
    That's why I've been writing all these huge comments. The only reason I know how most of the game works, is because someone else told me. So I was trying to pass on the favor. And the wiki isn't super complete, so it isn't always helpful. Hopefully I didn't spoil anything for you in the process.
    I definitely agree that Nano blob monsters are not very fun to fight. I usually just avoided them the best I could on my first playthrough. And even once you learn their patterns and unique mechanics, they're still a pain to kill. I'm definitely glad they only show up at the very end of the game so you don't have to deal with them for too long. BTW, they also sort of act as a tutorial for the final boss, because you also need to use your overcharge to kill them. Otherwise they just keep regenerating forever.
    Yeah, that final boss... Those hitboxes are COMPLETE BS. The first phase can hit you WAY beyond the actual model on most of its attacks. And the second phase is not much better. Staying close seems to be the trick, but then you have to watch out for that spike burst attack.
    If you cut the second phase's right arm, you get the Metamorphing Talons weapon. Which is actually a unique weapon type that combines attacks from one handed and twin-rigged combos. Otherwise, you get the Mimetic Edge, which is just a standard one handed weapon.
    Also, even if you don't do it in a video, I recommend at least starting NG+. There are a couple interesting little differences in the intro, and a new type of enemy that shows up here and there.
    And its too bad you never even looked into the Wild West areas. Even though none of the gear you find there really fits the aesthetic of the rest of the game. and its not connected to the main story at all. But there's still some fun to be had there. And some good implants to find.

    • @ruikiri
      @ruikiri  6 місяців тому +2

      I might look at the wild west later because i have seen some pretty cool looking gear there xb but ive read they go through the same areas as the main game so i didnt want to get spoiled, but i entered the room and saw you can get like a wolf helmet and stuff xb looks pretty sick... the part about the implants and armor bonuses are pretty cool and definitely add extra depth to the game, the real problem is some bosses like little sister and cerebrus are just not fun, and when you getting overwhelmed by enemies can be extremely chalenging, yet on executive floor there are enemies everywhere all wearing heavy gear... its doable, but some areas seem less thought out than others and simply become frustrating to deal with... they spread a bunch of people around the map, but these guys dont feel like "common" enemies... i dont have much to say about the visuals, gaMe looks good.. but the gameplay/balance is a little hit or miss...

    • @doomspud6302
      @doomspud6302 6 місяців тому +1

      @@ruikiri The wild west peril chambers are new areas, but they do use all the same enemies as the main game. They can spawn with the wild west gear, but still fight the same as always. So it is worth checking out at least the first few episodes of it, even if you don't complete them all.
      And it doesn't spoil anything, because you unlock the episodes as you play the main game. So you'll only face stuff you've seen already.
      Its mostly designed to be a place to farm techscrap, and to use the modifiers to create new challenges once you're familiar with the game. There are some gameplay modifiers, like making it so both you and enemies regenerate HP when you land attacks. Or making enemies explode if you don't successfully cut a limb. And some are just for fun, like making everything play like an old silent movie, complete with text cards instead of finisher animations.
      And yeah, I get that frustration. I felt the same way on my first playthrough. But every situation has a trick to it, even if it isn't clear at first. Even those nano blob enemies aren't too bad once you learn their tricks. But the learning process can be painful.
      That's why I recommend playing through it again, and experimenting with different weapons, armor sets, and implant combos. There's a lot of variety, and finding what really clicks with you may not be obvious at first glance. For example: I really didn't like single-rigged weapons at first. But on my latest playthrough, I finally figured out the trick to using them, and now everything else feels weak by comparison.
